Love the 1.4 range and they’re definitely on my radar now. The possibilities with this are endless whilst keeping the package small. Would love the mode ring to be clickable and what a difference this would make to the zf range. Looking forward to seeing what comes next and would be lovely to have a roadmap of what can be expected for this range 😍
I have always thought the D series of Nikkor lenses were the sexiest looking lenses Nikon has ever made. That said I do love the quality of the Z lenses.
I don't have a 50 prime yet, and now Nikon is making me choose between near optical perfection and speed for almost the same price when the 1.8 is on sale. If I had my way it would be a 1.4 S as I have no interest in the massive (in every metric, including price) 1.2. But between the 1.8 and 1.4, I think I lean 1.4 because I have a weakness for fast glass that I can actually afford lol.
I like electronic viewfinders so much more than the old DSLR viewfinder. Bright in the dark and if you shot in B&W it goes that way. Also it has to much more information in the viewfinder if you want it.
@@IsaacMiconi I have to say that the 50mm 1.2 is worth every penny, I love mine but I’m going to pick up the 1.4 because carrying all those 1.2s is a back killer.
@@IsaacMiconi completely fair, once you do find yourself in a place where you can get the 1.2 don’t be tempted to sell the 1.4 cause that’s going to be a lot easier for just walking around lol
Yes, please. Fuji turned me on to that, and the Sigma DG DN Art series implement it really well also with switch to enable/disable click. The generic control ring seems useless to me since it's so easy to accidentally turn.
Ahh, that sunset orange color, I just about had one of those but got the boring black. could be worse. An on the lens 1.8. 1.4. The 1.4 takes longer because it needs to bath in the awesome tank 4 days longer, then rinsed and dried so its no fly by night process. Kinda like great wine.."we serve no wine before its time"...
Hello! So, when will Nikon finally bless us with a Z-mount medium format camera, maybe something along the lines of a "Z7-ish" ( like the Hasselblad or Fuji GFX)? I’m sure you have all the insider details on this, right?
And S line 1.4 s still has space on market. A non s line and S line can both coexist. Like 3rd party and 1st party lenses existed in f mount dslr times. Its jst that sm of the 3rd pary market share is also captured by the Nikon itself with these non s line lenses.
Hello Matt, Some great thoughts, Not for me as I am enjoying the 85mm f1.2 and I do love my 24-70mm f2.8 which is less than a stop away but is an S line lens. But if cost was something that concerned me more than image quality then this is a lens priced to sell. But I know social media and others just love to tear my images apart I need as much help as I can so while I can, I will stop with the S line of lenses from Nikon which I know cost a bit more but they are so good, I just need to save up a bit longer before getting a new lens/ Thanks for all your great work..
z73 maybe 13bit -14bit~Z63 has lower tolerance but better color~ Lowering the tolerance will affect the color depth, but you will like its color more than the laboratory parameters. You can see ~ the Z63 has good color but the lab parameters are average~
I love their strategy. This lens are for casual, artist and definitly not for pros pro. Why 35 adn 50? Because thats most people will buy. Next i think 85/1.4, i definitly buy this one. But i already got z 35/1.8, and plan on getting the dirt cheap secondhand z50/1.8s lol
I got the 35 and decided to sold the 50 1.8 and not buying any replacement. It's a focal length that I don't use when working and I own a lot of 50mm manual lenses with even more character than this one
WIth all of these new lighter lenses, Nikon should focus on launching a light camera, 700g isn't it. Around 550-650g should be the target, incl. battery and SD card.
You don't understand Nikon ergonomics. They are build to last at least 20 years including heavy abuse on the field in the heat of africa or at -10 degrees without having hickups.
@@jorgepinogarciadelasbayonas that's cool, not really relevant for me, don't need a 20 year old camera, just one that I can carry with me. They built the lenses, now the bodies are missing.
@@drchtct LOL! If you want low quality bodies with bad ergonomics there are other manufacturers for it (that have desperate overheating problems, too).
@@drchtct LOL again! Because Canon does have more market share doesn't mean those products are always great. In fact it says nothing about the quality. Yes, cheap means market share but not quality.
Waited so long for a 1.4 I had to go out and buy the sigma art, so consequently nikon lost a sale, and No ill not be selling it as it does everything I need it to.... I did say when nikon was coming out with it's Z glass that nikon will only bring out TOP PRICED Lenses which they did, and will only bring out the cheap Z Glass once the market had spent up with no alternative but for expensive glass, now nikon can bring said cheap glass out because the only people it's aiming for are the ones that don't have £1000+ to spend on glass and everyone else's that did have the money have bought the £1000+ glass, the question is how many of the nikon shooters would rather have bought this 1.4 and it's price off £500 over paying £1000+ for a lens if they had a choice
I don’t see why you would want so many of the same lens. If you want a f 1.2 then it would cover others. If you can’t afford a f1.2 then make do with what you can afford.
A 1.2 doesn't cover the need for a light lens that doesn't kill your neck, back or wrist. Not about what money can afford, it's about what you're willing to carry around
Different applications. f/1.2 when covering an event / subject in dark conditions when quality of image is the most important factor... light f/1.4 or f/1.8 when hiking / or shooting on the street when you are going to be covering a long distance and light is less of an issue... or... f/1.2 and f/1.8 when precision of image is the need, the f/1.4 when you need more character... etc. etc.
Never really was impressed with Nikon's 50mm f1.4 lenses and I purchased my first Nikon in 1973 so I had every version withthe exception of the VR-S lens. All featured poor sharpness wide open which required stopping down to f4 to get good sharpness. If the new lens is as good as my Z 40mm f2 then I am in hook line and sinker, it's a wonderful lens. One negative for the new 50 is that STUPID lens hood. Really do wish they had used a 52mm filter thread because I do have a Rubber Collapsible HR-2 Lens hood on a 43-86 I never use. BTW, I have on on the 40 and it makes for a rather tiny package in my bag.
Man, nobody with a Zfc is going to buy this lens, because they're all after cheap TTArtisans, Viltrox lenses, etc. You can't expect people buying a camera for its aesthetics to have interest in what really sets the Nikkor apart. All they see is that it's twice the price! They're clueless about focusing ability, chromatic aberrations, etc. Also, since it doesn't look "vintage", that's going to be a deal breaker for most. The main market for this lens in the DX world will be people with a Z50 and maybe a Z30. So show us on a Z50, PLEASE, because it looks nothing like a Zfc. I know the Zfc is the best seller, but this isn't the right approach.

I just ordered one from B and H and will have in a few days! Thanks for the suggestion!
