I have the Z8 for professional photography and have the Z50 including all dx lenses with me about almost all the time. I can not wait to upgrade my everyday camera to Z50II. What an amazing upgrade. There is only one thing i miss that is 'banks'. That would make it the 'mini z8'. But, in my personal opinion it is the best lightweight small everyday camera to buy.
I'm a strictly amateur bird photographer and I have loved my Z50 and am eagerly upgrading to the Z50ii primarily for the improved autofocus and bird tracking. I think many reviewers miss the mark when they say beginner or entry level, don't forget the amateurs who may not need all the bells and whistles that the pro's want. Plus, remember the glass you're using is more important than the camera body, anyhow.
I'm using a ZFC and happy so far. But I've ordered the Z50 ii in case of the AF. I'm using mainly the Viltrox 13mm, Viltrox 20mm, Nikon Z50mm and the Nikon Z50-250mm
I love my Z50 so much. The only thing that would make me switch to the 2. version instantly would be, if it had IBIS. Sadly, it does not, maybey thats the reason, why the rivallling top models are a little bit more expansive......
Yes I believe its a valid upgrade from my Z50...mostly will be used in video situations on stabilizer with Viltrox lenses, i hate the kit lenses..the Camera has always been a great photo camera for me, the Z50II looks like its better suited...the question is how important is IBIS for me for video or well lit photography ? For Video and my youtube content creation it is GOLD better buy than the Z30 for sure...
Just preordered the Z50 ii for son (13) 😅 … an excuse for myself. I have the Z8 and would like a lighter camera for travel and city walks, so will surely borrow it often. 😅 Bought the double kit with 16-50 and 50-250, although I was tempted to take the 18-140, but then I would have to purchase the 16-50 separate in addition which would cost a lot more. Anyway, excited to try it. Lots of camera and lenses for the money. Thank's for great review. 😊
Excellent review! In order to move from my Fuji XS20 and consolidate into one system, I need Nikon to offer faster native zooms for indoor use. I'll wait.
When deciding whether the Z50ii can be considered as a replacement for a D500, no review I've seen answers the most important question. When shooting at a high mechanical shutter rate (to avoid rolling shutter), does the camera focus speed combined with the evf refresh rate or blackout allow a user to accurately visually track a fast moving object? Something the Z50 was not capable of easily doing.
3:39 AH! All the bodies have Menu / top, Play / bottom... except for the Zf. I can program DISP to be Play... but that reverses their position compared to the others. Messes with my muscle memory 🤯😆 Minor, but I wish the Zf matched. Maybe they'll allow the Menu button to be programmed(?). Excellent updates in the Z50 II, it's a little powerhouse 💪🏻📷
Not sure if I missed it but how is the battery life of the Z50ii compared to the Z50? I know they used a slightly better battery but with all the new processors and such do we see any improvements or about the same?
I appreciated the low weight and small size of the Z50 but it was a bit too short for me as my pinky would dangle a bit on the grip. I never got used to the touch buttons and the AF was Nikon’s gen 1 tech so it wasn’t as responsive as my other cameras. The Expeed 7 makes this a much higher performing camera and having all those additional features like assisted manual focus means a much more capable one as well. I think this camera is a bargain.
I use a D7500 for aviation photography and the Z50 II is a good candidate as a replacement for it when the time comes. However, I wish that the sensor was a new one so that I can more easily justify it as an upgrade. IBIS isn't as important to me (I have the less effective VR lenses) but those who shoot video will absolutely need it. So Nikon must really have thought long and hard about it because they needed to keep the price down to an affordable level.
NY NY Too bad, ,sort of that no DX Z for me, unless a more advanced body in MP and controls (I would pay more for) will happen. But really, no reason for me to have DX Z, IMHO - neither cost, size or weight consideration is significant for me. Though it is a negative or me for a Z8. It's more advanced, than my more ordinary needs call for ,a bit big and heavy and would have been a stretch to pay for. So this year I got a Zf and Z7ii and bunch of lenses instead. I like your cityscape / evening pics. Would be a blast to go along.
@ Thanks for the correction. I’ve been trying to find a user manual from Nikon ever since the Z50 ll was announced Edit to update: User manual download link available at Nikon Rumors
Matt, please don't feed into the flip down + waist level + overhead screen was a bad idea. It was a great idea. If anyone needed to see themselves while it's on a tripod, to check focus, record indicator, Snapbridge exist. Fully wireless monitor, remote control for FREE. Now Nikon has 0 APS-C cameras with a waist level viewfinder. Thanks internet 🙄 If you want IBIS, just take that extra cash to purchase a high end gimbal. If you need two card slots, buy a Z5 or Z30. A variable angle LCD screen is terrible for gimbals, terrible for ports, and now your camera is 2x bigger. Nikon creating a detachable EVF for the Z30 could've solved everything.
Yes, I know. I'm repetitive. 2024 and no IBIS. I would trade easily the new features for just the IBIS and two slots. And the new buttons. Those on the screen of the z50 are so annoying
Thanks for the review. Just ordered Z50 II. I Have Z50, Z5, ZF, and ZFc. My hands are pretty arthritic, so do better with smaller, lighter cameras. Regards.

I love this sensor. Glad to see it continue in the mark2.

Excellent job, excellent Audio, is that a prop Mic as it doesn't look like its plugged in Via XLR..? LOL

Excellent! I’m very tempted by this having just come back to Nikon. I’m very interested to see what a new z30 will bring.

Hopefully Nikon made a lot of these! I did not get my shipping notice yet!!
Amazing review
The XSPEED 7 is light years ahead of the XSPEED 6
My Zf has amazing AF! 😮

3D Tracking was the one thing I missed most going from the D5300 to the Z50 - delighted that it's available on the Z50-II now!
3D tracking in a Z Body is much better than in a DSLR

Any idea when z80/90 is expected to launch... ??
Does 30fps in electronic shutter record in 10bit jpeg or 8bit jpeg only?

Nikon left out Focus Shift the first time round and now with Xpeed 7 it’s still not available, or did I miss something?
yes, it's in the z50ii

Nikon manual available from nikon support site, got a copy last night.

I just got a Call from my Dealer, he has One with my Name on it at the Store
Huge: The eyepiece is different. I've lost so many eyepieces from my Z50 on the sides of mountain slol
The mic isnt plugged in
Where is subtitles 😢
RUclips auto generates them. Should not be long. 😀👍

Then go buy a Z5 and be happy.
The market segment and price point of the Z50 line make those additions cost prohibitive.
