Well, now! This definitely seems like a remake worth playing. I actually recently watched a video of another remake that had some impressive upgraded graphics and gorgeus music arrangements. However, it also had some questionable changes in gameplay. The changes in this one, on the other hand, seem to make sense and improve the gameplay (at least for the most part). More importantly, the most important feature - the cycle of day and night - is still there but been made so much smoother that it caught me off guard when I saw it happening for the first time. Really nice! I also like the addition of the bounty missions, and even ditching the levels is not an issue, since the developer has added the "Life Max Up" items to the game. Oh, and I definitely like that the oak stake merchant's "Invest in an oak stake" line was kept in this remake; I have always thought his choice of word "invest" to be amusing. What I am a little concerned about, though, is that most of the villagers seem to become mute. Of course, it is good that there are no more false hints in the game, but then there is also very few of the correct ones, too. I wonder if it would be possible for someone who has never played the original Simon's Quest to find all the Dracula's remains withour relying on a walkthrough guide. Nevertheless, I am going to give this remake a try. Ever since I played Simon's Quest through for the first time, I have always thought that it had some cool ideas but the execution was lacking, to say the least. This version seems to correct them, and I applaud Ed Finaly of completing such a task.
I've played different Remakes of Simon's Quest and although I've enjoyed them, they are too different from the original game. This one in particular captured the essence of the original while adding some much needed improvements. Definitely my favorite version of the game.
