It speaks to the isolation and sadness people feel, especially in college and high school, when they don't feel seen or acknowledged. Sometimes it does feel like you are waving through a window while everyone else goes on about their lives while you just watch..
Yes this one is from the Broadway musical Dear Evan Hanson. Ben Platt originated the role in the original cast, but the musical had at least one (maybe several?) US touring company, and also played in London's West End for a while. There's a behind the scenes for shooting the video that is part of the 2019 PTXperience (I think it's labeled "special episode") where Scott talks a little about how much this song and that musical meant to him. They shot the video for Shallow on the same day, and that BTS is also in the same PTXperience episode.

The evolution of Music, Michael Jackson, Rihanna, Beyonce, Ariana Grande. PTx just added Taylor Swift. 8 minutes long with 52 songs but no official video yet. Debuted in a concert last week
Honestly not my favorite song by PTX. Probably doesn't help that I'm not familiar with the musical this is from.
