  • G'day guys, today we are reacting to the new song from Pentatonix Waving Through A Window. I really liked this song, it had a more mature feel to me. Everyone killed it in this song.

I know what you mean. I think it's because it's a song written for theatre. It isn't a stand-alone pop song, it's intention is to move the play along and tell the story. In a lot of pop songs which PTX tend to cover the lyrics don't always hold a lot of meaning but in theatre the words are extremely important. I think they all conveyed the meaning and feeling of this song extremely well.

Mitch's low notes give me the chills! It makes me experience so many emotions that I can't even explain it.... He slays high notes! But his low notes are just something special! They all killed it.

The thing that my be throwing you is that this is a musical theatre song done in a musical theatre style. It is arranged the way it would be used on stage within an entire play. I agree about the maturing. To me, this is the best they have done since Matt joined. It seems to be about the spirit of the song and not about separate vocal exhibitions. Beautifully done!!

"Mature" is the right word for this song, I think. But they're so versatile. They're changing from song to song. They keep showing us that they can do literally anything! And that's the thing with this group, they can do anything with just five voices!

Their latest covers are kind of all over the place with the genres and I love it. It really does show how versatile they are. Completely agree with you!

Hey man! Waving Through A Window is from the broadway musical Dear Evan Hansen, which is a pretty heavy show and deals with some pretty heavy stuff (I'd recommend a quick google), so the group seems to be taking the meaning of the song very seriously, which could be the cause of the "maturing" you're sensing. Great video, love your reactions!

I came into the comments to say this same type of thing! Not only is the song style different, Broadway musical theater vs PTX standards, which tend to be more Pop/Top 40, but the show is very intense so they definitely took their performance seriously! I thought they did great!

This is from a play that deals with teen drama, run away lies, anxiety and suicide. So I think their presentation had to be a bit more solemn. The physical space around them is glittery, but the lyrics are pretty stark.
I am not a huge fan of this song but I thought PTX really did it well. They always manage to give us a unique experience to a familiar song. I love that about them.

As others have noted, It’s from the Broadway musical Dear Even Hanson. The music was written my Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, who wrote the music for Greatest Showman and La La Land. My favorite part of this song is when Kevin and Matt come in. It was so cute that Blue stayed on your shoulder the whole time the music was playing.

I love that they can do almost any genre. Okay Any Genre! This is right up their alley to me in terms of professionalism (GrownUpIsm). They grew up doing stage performances so I'd think Broadway was a dream for a few of them at some point. Kirstin already did a bit and will probably do more.
Matt's bass was amazing!!!! Kevin as usual killed it with the beatboxing and the supporting vocals. I find most don't realize how much supporting vocal Kevin does is tracks like this but I noticed.

I saw a couple of photos a while ago that showed all sorts of travel books on a coffee table as they were planning their world tour - and Australia and New Zealand were featured, so fingers crossed! Also, I saw a livestream from Chance of Home Free that they are doing another world tour and someone asked if they were coming back to Australia and they said they were - so two possible concerts coming your way!

I love that they made this like a sing/talk song and pulled it off superbly. That takes a lot of talent! I've seen others try this and flop because it's not easy. Like all of the new songs they put out, I've listened to this many times already and can't get enough. I think that feeling you have is because the song is from the theater production Dear Evan Hansen and not their usual pop cover. Thanks for the reaction good stuff! :)

I get you feeling of "grown up", I think it's the topic, the lyrics. As he (Scott) is dealing with anxieties and ocds, mayby he is a little more in touch with the topic. At least, that's why I'm touched.

Yes, other than the audio (bass and Kevin's beats just wrecking the cameras mic), once you get semi used to the sound quality, the concert itself is fun and entertaining. I just finished watching it.

You should react to the original version by Ben Platt, because while Scott did great but Ben Platt did amazing and his voice is just perfect for this song. I love Pentatonix but I really think Ben Platt shows the emotion much better than Scott and I just love the original.

Love your reaction, as always, but the song is OK. I hope the next new video will be a Kirstie or Mitch lead, or maybe Matt! Or KEVIN - I miss Kevin's singing. The harmonies were great and if they took it a little slower with less straining, it could be a hit, cause the message is there.

I'm crossing my fingers for you!
I had to listen to this more times to really appreciate it. Since I'm not that big into musical theatre and only know literally the most famous tunes, I have never heard this song before and it didn't immediatelly speak to me and it kind of distracted me from appreciating their vocals. But as I replayed it and the song became more familiar, I was able to pay more attention to PTX as performers. For one, out of all three of them, I think that Scott might have the least attachment to musical theatre and he was an interesting choice for the lead because of how high it was set. He's mostly been using his lower register lately, so this was a great surprise.
Kevin was sick as always and the effect he was doing at the beginning is probably my favourite part. Matt killed it as well. At this point it's no surprise actually :D. Mitch with his silky smooth lower register and Kirstie with her Broadway voice...perfect. What can one really say?
I honestly can't believe that after eight years, they seem to still have tricks in that bag of theirs :D.
And yeah, it has a different feel to it, but I think it's because they're not just singing, but also performing the song. That might be why they seemed different compared to their other current covers.
On a different note, honestly, I'm a fan of Blue. He's awesome :D. And so are you, Pat. Love your reactions!

P.S. I think you feel that certain kind of way because it's so different from what we've seen before. Shit, they're all different.
This is just not coming out right.
I suggest you close your eyes and just listen to the music.
    I had to.
Pentatonix is their own genre, yes?
    Thanks for your reaction.
    Honest, as always

I had never heard of this song, either, but I recently heard about the musical it comes from - another musical for my summer bucket list! Here is a link to Ben Platt, who sang it on Broadway, singing this song for the 2017 Tony awards show. His performance was lovely but hurts my heart, which was the point, I believe. ruclips.net/video/h9rf5wFq3zk/видео.html

  • @nfarhas7798
    @nfarhas7798 5 лет назад +2

The weird, grown up feel likely comes from the fact you've never heard the song before. And, of course, it's musical theater. I would have liked the others to have longer solos but, as you said, Scott slayed it. Again, I wanted to remind you to react to their AMA Star Wars tribute. ruclips.net/video/Ogh0xKwbWj8/видео.html It's a killer performance, not an overly long one. And, as always, they sound great with an orchestra on the second half.

If you enjoyed the song and would like to hear another cover from the same show, try Anthony Cipriano's version of Requiem. It's a live video from an event called the Pronoun Challenge. Take a song and change all of the pronouns. In this case it's "you" to "me".

Marti Freedman I really don’t know how to make Dear Evan Hansen fun and I don’t think anyone should try to. It’s a total downer of a play. (Important, yes, but man I didn’t have fun when I saw it).

    • @SnowWhitesBite
      @SnowWhitesBite 5 лет назад

I kind of agree. I didn't like this cover as much as there other stuff either, but I think that is just because I am so in love with the original and Ben Platt show much more emotion in the song and I feel like this one lacked that. Also it isn't as fun because the song isn't fun. It one of the first numbers of Dear Evan Hansen which is a musical that is told from the perspective of a anxious, suicidal teenager dealing with the fall out of another kids suicide in his school which he gets caught up in, so that is why it is so down.
