I agree that the iPad isn’t meant to and may never replace the MacBook one-to-one, and that the device may not work with specific workflows. However, I feel like you didn’t really give the iPad Pro much of a chance. It seems that you based at least some of your thoughts on the iPad on assumptions and inaccurate or outdated information instead of experience (for example, using Microsoft Office on iPad and video recording/editing setups). If you primarily use the iPad as a media consumption device, I can understand your justification for why the iPad Air/Pro doesn’t make sense to you and why a cheaper iPad might be a better match.
About the specs configurations: Just like the MacBook Air, it doesn’t have fans to deal with the heat from the M-series Pro/Max chips. iPadOS is also relatively lightweight, and the way it deals with memory compared to macOS makes even 16GB nearly unnecessary in the device. Even so, many users consider the M-series iPads to already be overpowered as they are now. While this can be annoying to users who want to push the iPad harder, it’s best to accept that Apple does this by design so that the response time of the touch interface is consistently snappy (a big part of the iPad experience) even when the device is several years old.
The iPad does have limitations due to iPadOS’s focus on response time and speed, but it is an extremely awesome piece of tech if you find effective ways to work with your workflow. Apple also wants you to buy both devices anyway, so it is best not to expect iPads to completely replace their own MacBooks anytime soon. 😅
Well put, your use case is just, and you made the right decision based on that. Your collaboration with Faiz was a great conversation. thanks for keeping it real.
@@TheKurtLyon thank you for watching I appreciate your comments. :)

I remember when laptops weren’t powerful enough to edit videos. No one was saying they couldn’t be “a computer.” Most of the people here aren’t going to even use those features. RUclipsrs are not representative of the general population. Tablets are more powerful replacements for netbooks which were popular at one point.
This was very informative! I’m going to buy a MacBook now! Love your videos.
That’s crazy. The logo is changed on the keyboard but not the folio case. I’m mad lol. But they should change the orientation of the logo on the iPad since they finally moved the camera to the correct position.
The problem I am finding is the iPad is still relying on iTunes and the file system is archaic, why haven't Apple installed a file system similar to the PC or Android?
I mean I use my iPad for digital art and tbh I would never see as it as a replacement for my Mac book so the Magic Keyboard is rather pointless in my eyes.
Tab s9? I'm waiting for tab s10 but wonder if apps like lumafusion will be as low-achiever as fcp on ipad.
I agreeee it WILL NOT replace a MacBook!!! I am so tireddd of seeing videos saying iPads replace MacBooks. It’s refreshing to see someone disagree
I’m glad you agree. It’s a super cool idea but it’s never going to be a pro device for pro editors not at all. The closest we will get to that is a foldable Mac but who knows when that will even happen. Knowing Apple it’ll take 7 years and require your to sell you car to buy it! 😂
Christopher Lawley run his entire channel on the iPad.
I'm getting this iPad pro M4 chip for note taking and personal goals
The pro is not only thin itself, but it also thins out your wallet like a pro.
3:11 where can I get this wallpaper handsome?
You're wrong about Microsoft Office. If you have a Microsoft 365 subscription, you get the iPhone and iPhone apps included.
@@richardschembri3538 yes someone else also just told me. Thank you for letting me know. :)
Part of the problem is 3rd party developers wont put full functionality apps on ipad - I’m not sure why
@@donyoung333 it doesn’t make any sense as to why they don’t
Yes you can use your Microsoft office subscription for the Mac on the iPad and iPhone.
@@Mkt6040 that’s good I’m glad it was fixed. Someone mentioned to be that you couldn’t
it was never an issue. That’s how Microsoft 365 subscription works. Whoever mentioned it didn’t know what they were talking about. They probably had a box/perpetual license which is a legacy model. Next time if you could try and do your own research about comments you read on RUclips as not everyone is educated or knowledgeable.
I have never done this much research on an device like the iPad Pro and iPad Air. I been in photo/video for almost 2 years and looking to upgrade my 6 year old ipad(with the button) This was a great video. Now I need to invest in a MacBook as well.
You can denoise on Photomator using ipad
@@utsavbrahmbhatt-q5y wow that’s good to know thank you for sharing
Get the 11inch ipad air or pro..
@@csuren I’m starting to like the 11 inch size more now
🔥🔥🔥🔥
2024 😮
I think iPads are luxury devices that are purchased to treat oneself. To be purchased with disposable funds, if you got it like that then you can purchase. Like buying Jordans or loui v. 😊
@@richard4079 exactly good point!
As a video/photographer, an ipad is useful for pitching your works to a potential client when face to face. That's all 😂
Kidding lol. It's also useful for digital slate, field monitor, and display for teleprompter, sometimes for secondary display for your laptop if you work outside.
Yes ipad is a complementary device. The real work would be on the macbook.
@@mohamadnoorrizal1312 good points! I didn’t think about it like that
🔥
I love the iPad Pro and use it as my daily business carry, but I wouldn't edit photos or video on it, it's not there yet.
Yeah I agree if it just had the full version of the apps we already love and use then maybe it could help but other than that no it’s not truly a pro device
Can you do a day in life with your MacBook Pro
I sure can
Look out for that video next week!
I think you should just get a iPad Air base line just to compliment your MacBook. I think it would be good use for your entertainment and light use. I am a die hard just MacBook user for intense work, but I do have an ipad just for entertainment and taking notes.
@@missv7689 yeah at some point I do want an iPad again just for content
The combo I love is the Mac mini and Ipad Pro. And yea it replaced my laptop. I am an aspiring novelist and I love Scrivener on the Ipad. It allows me to centralize my research and writing. I write my first draft on the Ipad and annotate it. Then I work on the final draft on my Mini. I am covering 95% of my work. That’s enough to justify the device. I just think it’s absurd to judge a device on whether it can edit a video. At one point a laptop couldn’t do it.
I like the video and you had some good points. I would like to just say a quick thing. Often people on RUclips make these reviews about how not capable the iPad is vs the mac but most of the reviewers haven’t actually done the thing they are talking about.
I once edited a timeline that was 4hrs worth of 4k video on my iPhone X lol and it handled it with absolutely no problems. Now I use my iPad Pro to edit and it’s not only easy it’s actually pretty fun. The best part about editing on and iPad is that you can edit a bit and walk away or watch a video and come back. It’s so easy to edit a bit throughout your day and take it with you 11 inch anyway.
The last thing I will say is that I’ve been a traveler for several years and I used to be the only one with and iPad at the cafe and now I see iPads everywhere. So allot of people are finding a way to switch to iPad.
For me the thing that’s terrible about the iPad is you can’t do simple things. For example try and make and ebook on a iPad. You can’t format it or anything. It’s a nightmare
@@DavidoverSea it’s cool to hear how other people use their devices and I’m glad the iPad is a great tool for you! Thank you so much for watching and sharing your thoughts. I’m impressed that your iPhone edited that type of footage however I’m sure it downgraded the quality but a little bit no?
@@JOOMATV it probably made the process slower but honestly just about anything you can do on a normal editor you can do in luma fusion. It really just comes down to mobility. Desktops and laptops are work horses but at the same time if you get and idea for the edit you can just pop open your phone and make a tweak. In that way it’s better
@@DavidoverSea that’s a good point!
@@DavidoverSeajust because you can’t edit multiple streams, etc. on an Ipad doesn’t mean it can’t replace a laptop. You realize most people aren’t editing videos. Half the stuff covered in these RUclipsrs videos is strictly coming from their profession. That’s not the only measure of how useful a device is.
@@Michael-ur5qb make sure you read my comment more clearly. I said you “can” edit multiple 4k streams on iPad… not “can’t”. I fully agree not everyone is doing that. I think for the most part and iPad can replace a laptop unless your using allot of web based applications such as “canva” those work very awkwardly on iPad safari
