I used my iPad Pro 11 inch w/ Magic Keyboard as my only computing device for over a year. I have just recently upgraded to the 13” M4 iPad Pro which obviously would be a great upgrade, until I used the 13” M3 MacBook Air. I recognized all the issues I subconsciously had with my iPad, which were all mentioned in this video. The screen tipping over, the trackpad cursor not being as precise. While there’s modern benefits to the iPad like FaceID, there’s compromises as well. For me the biggest thing was not being able to use the iPad comfortably on my lap, and not being able to open it with one finger. Whereas the MacBook excels at both of these. Imagine having to keep your iPad from having to tip over constantly as my primary device. It’s a huge sacrifice, while the MacBook Air sits perfectly balanced in all scenarios and convenient to open with a finger.
I’m a PE teacher and I take videos with my iPad Pro. I’m probably the only one who use the ultra wide camera for this thing, when I’m near the students I’m filming. I can use my iPhone, but I like having the possibility to watch the video immediately on the large screen of the iPad. If I upgrade for the M4 iPad Pro, I would need to take videos with my phone instead sometimes.
My opinion , being an M2 12.9 inch iPad Pro owner and M4 iPad Pro owner is the following. Avoid 13 ‘’ iPad Pro and I prefer the 11’’ m4 because of portability , in addition I do a lot of simple editing on the 11’’ although the screen is smaller , I do not find any difficulty nor disadvantage in comparison to my 12,9. I also owe a MacBook Pro m3 16 and a 13’’ M3 MacBook Air . The one I use mostly is the MacBook Air 13 because it is lighter and run all the pro apps I need . One suggestion is to put more RAM , at least 16 GB .. For some serious editing and music production the iPad is complimentary but NOT ENOUGH because of missing plugins and a too restrictive iPad OS. Therefore , Mac is the winner for pro editing … MacBook Pro or Mac Studio for more intensive work but the issue is portability . In synthesis the ones I use the most are my iPad Pro m4 11’’ and MacBook Air M3 .
I've recently switched from the M4 iPad Pro 13" to a MacBook Air 13" and Kindle Scribe for note taking and reading, and think it's the sweet spot for me. I love iPad's and iOS but it's just not there for me, so can totally recommend the air and scribe combo as an alternative.
A little late, but this was a very insightful episode! Personally, for me Mac and Windows is the way to go because of file management and being able to have many windows open (even though iPad OS can do it too, just not the same). Also, I am a sucker for bigger screens so 15-inches for me is a minimum. Keep up the amazing content
I agree with everything he said about MacBook editing on there is better and soooo limited on the iPad. There’s no plugins for Final Cut Pro on iPad. MacBook fcpx is a one time fee on iPad it’s every month, that’s an issue alone, n yes the mouse on iPad is annoying.
Brooo do you read my mind for real 🤣🤣 the last video I was wanna tell you can you do iPad vs MacBook who is Better then I opened my phone I saw this video 🤣 thanks so much 😁
@@FaizAly I’m new subscriber I like your videos so much they help me thank you so much remember when you get 100K 500K 1M subscribers I believe you you will get those subscribers thanks again for everything 😁😁
I prefer the iPad Pro and would choose it on a desert island because it does everything I need it to do but I do wish I had the option to boot into macOS to for instance play a PC game if I wanted to.
@stephenfiore9960 they want you to use it as an assistant computer, not you main computer. It's supposed to be used landscape and portrait. So they want to encourage you to use it different to the rest of their tech
Camera on the ipad is actually interesting for some cases, like imagine you're a videographer and no need to get super good footage, using ipad is quite enjoyable because you can preview the footage in a bigger screen than phone/camera screen. Sometimes it is useful because a videographer needs to check a lot of variables in the camera display.
You should do a comparison for an everyday person not people that are sponsored or over saturated with devices. You guys make it sound like it’s no big deal, when in fact both devices are top tier for most people. Almost like hearing race car drivers talk about fast cars.
I want to know if Davinci Resolve on Ipad Pro M4 would edit Nikon Raw video codec. I am more leaning toward the ipad pro rather than the MacBook pro. I just wish the iMac had higher specs so I could do more of the higher end MacBook pro stuff on it. The iMac wouldn't have to get as high end as the Mac pro, but it's just too basic.
Honestly, I’m fine with iPadOS… it’s just while working on the iPad and editing videos, the battery drains sooooo fast. Also, I wish it had more ports. I hate carrying dongles around lol. Plus I wish it had a clamshell mode… is this too much to ask for? 😶
They could bring a dual boot system to the iPad where we could have MacOS and IPadOS. You just wouldn’t touch the screen when in macOS. They just won’t do it because $$$ With the Magic Keyboard there is absolutely no other reason.
are they sure to be tech man ? ..screen is 2-3 mm thickness how they will put face id sensors there ? with ipad pro 5.1 this is the latest where tech arrived yet..if one day you hear ipad pro 3mm than we expect from the macbook air or pro faceid
This was a really great conversation! You definitely proved that each device has their own use case and it really just depends on the type of user you are ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

That makes a lot of sense!
..Surprised the school lets you take video
Team IPAD even though I have to use my Mac for work 😂💻
Faiz and Karim did a great job. Very nice episode. Looking forward to more!
More to come!

tried the iPad and you just keep going back to the laptop for all your serious stuff lol

I’m glad I have somebody who agrees! 😂 the iPad is super cool but it was never made to replace the Mac in my opinion

It would be cool to have a jailbreak to use Mac OS on it but it probably wouldn’t work as well
Orientation of apple logo (when it's booting up) depends on how you are holding the ipad
Just subscribed to the podcast on Apple!

Wow what a nice compliment thank you so much!
they wont change the apple orientation. its meant to be used in both landscape and portrait
..? Not sure what you mean without owning one

How do I use iPad pro with office 365? Thanks. I am not sure how to open a Word document on the iPad Pro.
Download the apps and put in your office 365 login credentials
I finally really liked the iPad Pro once I got it in my head that I have to touch the display to use it correctly and not always a mouse or trackpad.
I actually do use the iPad camera for video gait analysis. I can record a client moving and show them on the iPad.

Great point!
Would love to see a talk with Chris Lawley about the use of the iPad Pro as a main computer
Would love for that collab to happen!
Great conversation! I’m 80% iPad and 20% MBP. Love them both and I’m sneaking both onto that WiFi serviced desert island!
Thank you! 🙏🏼

Team iPad Pro (still have a Mac mini tho)
That is a great and more ideal combo!
Love the Mac mini!
Is it possible to do extensive word processing on the ipad pro the same way like we have on the Mac?
Nice one guys!!
Thank you 🙌

With the amount of money they ask for the Magic Keyboard i wish they added the dual boot system!
I would pay an extra $500 to be able to boot Mac OS on iPad for life
Team MacBook 🎉

Sure!
Team iPad most technically advanced, but I still use my MacBook Air M1 . . .
Both are great!
Would love a discussion about windows vs Mac

I think a MacBook with touch display would be better than iPad with MacOS.
Guys ...this is too long....😮😮😮
Got yaaa
User need macOS on ipad not only iPadOS 🤣
If I was stuck on an island I would be team iPad all the way 🫡
