Olá Bruno! Happy I found your channel, so far the content that I've been seeing was amazing I hope this video is going to be seen by a lot of D2 owners and makes them spend some money for the changes needed to have a car in great condition. I did majority of those changes when I bought mine and had no issues for over a year (apart from 3 amigos which I have fixed as well) I'll get in contact if ever plan a trip with my car around your area (cause most of the time I come surfing, I take the plane) :) Until then saudações da Romênia!
Thank you for your kind words. Yeah the D2 is great off roader, especially the td5. The gas engines are more prone to failure and power is more or less the same with a chiupped td5. My motto is do it right do it once. If you buy a 20 year old car (wahtever it is) you may as well overhaul everything. You then get another 20 years of reliable service. Otherwise they will let you down more often than not. Saudações de Lisboa:)
In an age where everything is becoming more complicated, I think something you can fix yourself has become an under estimated advantage. I really enjoy seeing a disco get the attention it deserves. Great video. Sweet ride, only thing that I would add is a nice winch tucked under that front bumper.
Hi, unfortunately in Portugal winches are prohibited as well as any other 4x4 accessory. It's just stupid over here. They have to be stock otherwise the police will stop you and confiscate the vehicle...its truly a police state over here. I cant even fit larger tyres to my disco, only the ones stated by the manufacturer... I dont think being able to fix something yourself is an under estimated advantage, i believe its more and mora an advantage. But that's just me talking:)
@@heritagesteel1976 Ok, ya, to a degree every country has it's ridiculousness, but you are making the best of it 👍Thats all you can do until things change. And they always do eventually.
Beautiful truck!! I justswapped my 2001 td5 gearbox over for an Ashcroft gearbox and transfer box. For the relatively cheap prices you can dos some serious upgrades. Try checking prices for an oil pump frpm mercedes or toyota...then check Britpart land rover prices.
hi. That is true but the quality of aftermarket Land Rover bits is horrendous. I dont even try to fit "%#$part anymore. Its just not worth it. Even some original parts are made in India and are awful. But yes ultimatly running a Land Rover is WAY cheaper than running a G wagon or Toyota.
thanks. Yeah that is a sweet Disco! dont see them that often in that condition, especially with zero oil leaks. Thing is i like the DISCO more, it has some scratches on the paintwork, i drive it looser offroad without a worry of breaking something and its more of an offroader. On the other hand i am getting older and i like the comfort of the ML. And with the little offroading i do these days it doesnt really make sense to keep the disco. Well both are advertised and the first one to go thats it. Fate i guess:)
I've got a D2 (2002, TD5, manual) since 2020 and its only downside is the rotten rear chassis. I'm not selling the car, I intend to repair the chassis. I've done a lot of preventive repairs to it (thankfully the engine runs ok). The value of D2 is starting to rise, especially one in pristine condition, like yours (especially with a chassis looking that clean). I have doubts that the ML will become a 'classic', no matter how it drives on the road. If I were you, I'd struggle to keep the Disco. It's a shame to sell it.
yeah chassis rot on lanmd rovers is a common issue. On the defenders its "easy" to pop the body to repair, on the disco it's a weeks job. I agree they are rising in value pretty quick, especially since they are the only "cheap" land rovers left. Defenders are a rich mans dream. I've decided to keep mine, especially fully rebuilt as is very hard to find one again.
Keep the Disco! Don’t make the same mistake my brother did when he sold his TD5 and bought an ML 500 AMG….. The ML was a car designed for and built by Americans. It went well but was thirsty, unreliable and sloppy to drive.
truly i love both. Different cars of course but to each his own. Try driving 1000kms straight in a disco. You go crazy...a pleasure in an ML. Off road the disco is way ahead
@@heritagesteel1976 Land Rovers with solid axles will always be more special than other 4wds. I believe they will also keep their price better in the long run. Especially if kept up in good condition.
what a car! what the amount of work!
Keep this very nice Discovery, sell the ML. Best Regards from Belgium, David
Thanks David for your feedback. I like the simplicity of the discovery way better. It is a "poorer "ride but i like it more also

3-Amigos FTW!!!! lol
3 amigos is always an easy fix...especially compared to newer cars...

Discovery
ditch the ML
yeah i think so too. The ML is just overkill...although it performs remarkably well with the air suspension and lockers
