make sure to check your lug nuts if you have work done, that requires removing your wheel
I swear, every nut/bolt on my 2001 Odyssey is rusted!! Makes it much harder to work on, but once I manage to remove a part, I always wire brush threads clean, spray em down w some PB, then apply a good serving of anti seize on things.
You’re right tho. Most videos make it look easy , and everything comes right off with ease. No busted knuckles, no throwing tools down and walking away in frustration…
In the real world, shit never comes off easy
How did you remove the wheel hub? That part is missing....
Great video!! I'm doing the same job on our 04 odyssey today....
Nice!!
GREAT video! Shows what it's like working on old cars on the ground in REAL LIFE. Complete with the missing tools, busted knuckles and swearing at the damned thing. I'm a mechanic myself, and this kind of job is like going to war. You never surrender. You keep fighting until you win or die
😂 so true
@@AutoRepairTips757 Keep it coming brother - I found you because I sheared a SECOND lug nut off of my LF drive wheel after the last grease-monkey to mount tires and re-mount my rims used a F*king AIR GUN to tighten up my nuts.
Without using any lube of course.
Or the torque wrench I made him PROMISE to use as I headed over to the Starbucks across the street to wait while he f*cked with my nuts.
This paticular ruined local ski-trip / tire shop nightmare was caused by a traumatic sexual encounter with a loaded Semi attemtpting to non-consensually mount and rail my Oddysey at 75 mph on an LA freeway, sending me onto the shoulder causing TWO flat tires.
Simultaneously!
Don't worry though, he only got the tip in. So my sweet, innocent little Oddyssey's virtue and purity remain intact.
Mind you: A subsequent ruined local ski trip involved commin' down the Baldy mountain, flatting the RF drive wheel tire, having AAA mount my spare, forget to tighten my nuts, only to have my spare tire PASS ME AT 55 MPH ON THE F*KING 210 FREEWAY!!!!
....during rush hour sorta. On Friday night. That cost me the use of my van for week earlier this year, and $1500 to remedy the front end carnage. I had to squeeze that $1,5000 out of the derilict towing company that was so careless with my nuts. The insisted that what I claimed was
"Impossible" because they were "professionals"
I blame myself in both instances. I've been hurt before. By professionals. I've paid a lot of money to professional women in stiletto heels and too much make-up to f*ck with my nuts with whips and chains in San Francisco dungeons. Behind Tijuana dumpsters sometimes too.
So this wasn't this cowboy's first rodeo. He should have known better.
Still, I love mechanics like a cheap whore loves cheap perfume and blow, so I trusted them. (I'm pretty sure it's some sort of wierd sexual thing now, because I keep going back for more.)
...Anywhooo, the 2nd lug nut snaps off at the end of my 4' cheater bar.
and........
I.......
scream..........
"F*CK MEEEEE!!!!!!!!
NO SKI TRIP>>>>
AGAIN!!!!:::::GODDDDDDAMMMMITTTT!!!!!!>>>>>>F******CKKKKK MEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!"
...and then I calmly, silently, deliberately finish my driveway tire rotation task, TRIPPLE CHECK ALL MY LUG NUTS, and go get drunk.
The next morning at 7am I drive that 20 year old POS minivan 2 blocks up the street. On 3 lugnuts. To yet ANOTHER TIRE SHOP! (Yes, I'm a dumbass - don't ask)
....where I'm told they can't fix it because
"We are professionals" and "It's impossible"
So I think to myself:
"Bullshit! I'll bet some badass shade-tree mechanic has posted a how-to video of this exact same problem on the the exact same model year and color Oddysessy I own goddamit!"
...and sure enough..... =)
Armed with the knowledge gained here, I drove that ancient-illegal-camper-stealth-dirtbag-skier-mini-van-with-only-3-remaining-lug-nuts 200 yards up Pacific Coast Highway to KIng Harbor Auto, a highly regarded local shop with a sh*t ton of positive Yelp hollers.
They had it fixed in 3 hours, new-hub and bearing, and properly lubed and torqued lug-nuts and a new set of belts because "while we are in there" and all that crap.
I assume they lubed my nuts and used a torque wrench on them because I made them PROMISE. and because, you know...my whole wierd "trust the greasy mechanic with my life" sexual fetish thing means I don't check my nuts after they've been fondled by some dreamy grease monkey.
All for less than $700!
For a van that's also worth less than $700.
....That's 1/2 what an 8-ball of blow and a Tijhauna hooker cost these days.
(I assume)
;-)
Nice bearing press tool mahjig
Good video but you missed the part were you took the hub out
Thanks
Looked like a bit of a surprise with the jackstand under the lower control arm when the last upper knuckle bolt was removed! Noticed the jump and jackstand magically relocate itself back under the frame.
Should have anticipated that one. Lucky not injured.
Great video though, just what I needed to help out my nephew.
its always unstable when you jack up a car in the rocks, glade you liked the video
I have an 08 odyssey can’t you just replace the studs?
I know this is a 2 year old video , how much labor is charged to do both sets of bearings, hours is the cost im after- i can do the work but sometimes its easier taking it to a shop.
Make some soft jaws and clamp it in the vise next time, you flopping it around drove me nuts!, been there done that - fighting it while it flops around on the bench.
Hi sir
I have an Ody 2004 with humming noises from front left wheen plus TCA and ABS light. You think it's the front left wheel hub?
its hard to say without looking at it
This lugs were not tightened they there over tightened / over torqued and sheered off!
What kind of press is that?
I don’t know the exact name of that one I used but in my description I have links and I believe it’s listed in one of those links it’s off of Amazon it works really good sometimes you can leave it on the car you don’t even have to take the knuckle off
@@AutoRepairTips757 I read a bunch of reviews saying it stripped the bolt easily. Do you think that was user error?
@@shannondosher1270 I only used mine about 5 times before that happened, but i am hard on a tool LOL. if you use wheel bearing grease on the threads before you use it that will help it last longer,
I hate to see an excellent Odyssey abused by the owner like that as far as needed maintenance but if they are buying used tires I guess they are poor. It needed pads at least-especially since it got a new rotor, and probably needed a new LCA too. They should have payed you to do it. That's a bitch of a job you had to do. I did it on my '03 because the idiot at the tire store lazily/sorryly started the lug nuts in the impact socket instead of hand starting them and so cross threaded two of them. I reused my hub and beat out two broken ones, and beat in two new studs. The $300 press I bought got the hub out but our butts were whipped by that bearing-even after I let it soak in PB Blaster for 3 days and it wasn't even corroded. Honda just really puts them in there. One of the pieces of the press even bent. I took it to a shop and they got the bearing out with their big stationary press and pressed the new one in. Through inexperience I booggered the threads on the lower ball joint when it popped loose so I had to put on a new LCA, but the bushing was shot anyway. I now have a special Honda thread protector for next time. I don't care, when I go to the tire store I walk out and tell the guy personally to hand start the nuts and finish the torque with a torque wrench because the guy behind the desk WON'T even after saying he would. You can't just easlily knock out and replace wheel studs on these Honda hubs.
Lol I still cant get past the "well since they are buying used tires, I guess they are poor" comment. Bro, its a 2002 Honda Odyssey, its worth $1750, if you'redriving this in 2023 the last thing you'd do is drop an extra $500 on new tires, not because you're poor, but because it makes NO SENSE 😂😂😂😂
Why can't you get past it?" That was my observation: if they are buying used tires, they must be poor-nothing wrong with that. It would have to come down to being able to eat, or not, for me to buy a used tire. I personally have a 2000 Honda Odyssey in my "fleet" that I love, along with an '03 and an '11, and except for the paint, it is in perfect condition with 240,000 miles, maintained by me. It's the most well made and reliable vehicle I have ever owned and I hate to get rid of it. I only buy genuine Honda parts for it. I only buy new tires for it. I am not rich, but I am not poor either, in large part because I don't waste money on buying new cars every few years. I buy new, then keep it as long as possible, and with Hondas, that's a long time. @@Thecargoesvroom
