This video is the 4th video in the "Improve My Car Sketch" series. The video features a car design drawing by Erik from Sweden. Erik did an amazing job creating a drawing with a lot of energy and emotion.
Some important parts of a rear quarter drawing are covered in this tutorial such as how to get the correct proportions when drawing for car design, how to set up the car on the ground plane, how to insure your wheels are in perspective and how to get you car design to flow from the side of the car through the rear of your design. These are several aspects of drawing for car design that are covered in this tutorial.
There are many aspects of Erik's car design drawing that are very well done. His drawing is done with a lot of passion. He has chosen a very difficult view to draw. A rear quarter view is a hard one. Congratulations to him to doing it so well. He has included the cars interior and it looks good inside the car. It appears he has also done something very advanced which is to turn the front wheel. All of these add up to a very dynamic car design drawing.
Areas to improve that can be applied to any car design drawing are how to get the correct wheelbase for this type of vehicle. Proportion of the wheelbase is something many aspiring car designers struggle with. The correct proportion for a car of this type is discussed in the video. Also, in the rear quarter perspective view the front wheel needs to be smaller than the rear. The design needs to flow from the body side into the rear quarter and around the back of the vehicle.
More substantial wheels were added to the design. A better resolution of the front door vent was offered as well.
Overall, Erik did a great job on this sketch. I hope he and everyone that watches can benefit from what I am showing in this video tutorial and improve as they practice the new techniques. While the the techniques I am showing can seem quite hard, they can be mastered with the commitment to practice them. Nothing in life worth doing is easy. Learning the correct ways to create a rear quarter perspective car design drawing is one of them.
