I don't think any single person in India has done so much for small and ethnic eateries as much as Food Lovers Founder Kripal Amanna. His diction, his pronunciation in English as well as Kannada is superb. One almost feels the experience of savoring as he does albeit in the videos. From seven star hotels and Michelin starred ones 'up' to street food he had covered them all with unparalleled passion. The production of the videos are par excellence too. The foodies, food aficionados, the discerning , the gourmands and gourmets are definitely the beneficiaries.
Firstly he richly deserves the Kannada Rajyothsava award and then the Padma Award. Wishing him the very best from one of the early members of Food Lovers Club and well and his erstwhile Food lovers guide subscribers. Harish Padmanabha

Rasam should be tasted separately first, then you can have with kootu, poriyal and papad, but never with pickle.
Rasam should be added generously with the rice, my ratio is 1:4+
The one who make a delicious rasam is alone considered to be a good cook.
The Rasam lovers are used to have it in a tumbler separately.

I looove a good rasam! And I also follow your 1 part rice with 3 or more part of rasam ratio. But that's tricky to handle on a banana leaf, or even on a plate. So I have my rasam rice in a bowl with a spoon so that I get a good portion of tangy spicy rasam wth every spoon! :)

Sam A sir, May be because the Kannada rasam is not much spicy. In TN cuisine, rasam is spicy, prepared with pepper , chillies etc, hence its does not go well with pickles. It goes well with poriyal, kootu and also Aviyal.

I lived in Chennai also for 6 months in 90's and stayed in one of the mansions in Triplicane high road.. There was also a Iyer Mess and I ate my dinner almost daily during my stay there. They used to charge Rs 5 for the meal then.. It was really simple and awesome food.. I can never forget those days..

Hello..I m from North..the first time I had this meal at Bangalore I was stunned to see banana leaf..and was skeptical about the cleanliness..but when everyone is eating, you get the courage to eat over a banana leaf..and then after 10 seconds, 30 sec 45 sec, 1 min 2 min..no spoon!! They don't give you spoon to eat..and then you have to gather courage to ask for one if available.. or try out eating rice with hands..and I got selected for the exam I gave at Bangalore and spent good six years down south..
Now I am often found teaching people in north about the virtues of removing shoes outside home, eating rice with hands etc etc.. 😁
