    The marquees look great in person, the camera totally washes it out. Its very hard to get any camera to film a very bright light. Keep a eye on the website, will upload pics as they come in from customers!
    We have all the factory A1U marquees done and available here:

    To those of you whining about the assembly, aren't you modding an arcade cabinet? That's the entire point. That's the fun part, taking things apart and putting them back together to make them better.

      My reply to most is "you know you are buying from DIY Retro Arcade" stress the DIY part :) And yep, to me the building and modifying to say you did it is by far the funnest part. Thanks for the input!

    So...I love seeing another option available for us Arcade1up fans who love to mod our machines. Your competitors marquees are more drop in plug and play. Yours we are doing the brunt of the assembly. No assembly required through your competitors. If these are priced considering this I look forward to purchasing several from you. I like the look of this, well done fellas!

    • @diyretroarcade
      @diyretroarcade  5 лет назад +1

      Thanks! To install the others you need to loosen the sides and disassemble some of the cabinet, we were trying to make something that did not have that step. You drill 1 1/4 hole and 4 small 3/32. Anyone should be able to install this in less then 10 minutes. We have basically seen the failures of the other with light leak and this was the best solution we came up with. The video does not do it justice, there is little washout and absolutely zero light leak.

    What If you machined the piece that the LED's stick to to have a slight bevel that aims backwards? I would think that it should reduce the unevenness of the light transmission. Basically allowing the reflective surface to do it's job better and allow the light to spread evenly. Thoughts?

    Sorry but this way overpriced. $55 ($60 if you want to add a switch) plus shipping, you have to do all the work yourself, including messing up the cab if you decide later on if you change your mind and don't want to use it anymore. Your competitors offer a complete no assembly required, just remove the old marquee and drop in theres for a lower price. Sorry man I wouldn't pay more than $25-$30 shipped for this.

    • @diyretroarcade
      @diyretroarcade  4 года назад +1

      Then its not for you. Appreciate the feedback! We sold a great bit and so far everyone has been thrilled with the print quality and light saturation. So there is diffently a market for them for a buyer who wants quality over cheap. Our actual marqee is printed to real translite then polycarbonate is installed on that. Thats a huge cost. We could cut the cost down 30 percent using clear vinyl like the rest of them but thats not what we want our name on. We will never be the lowest but we assure you the quality will be 1st rate. Ask anyone who has bought a cpo from us, not cheap by any means but its quality.

      Less shipping weight and it takes 5 minutes to assemble. This can be installed faster then taking the top cabinet apart. You literately drill a 1/4 hole and 4 pilot holes, everything else is adhesive. It does not get much easier. The reviews have been extremely positive on the ones who have actually purchased vs going off the video to judge it. Its just so hard to video a led light without the camera going nuts and washing everything out :( Video does not do the product justice.

      yes everything goes over the oem marquee.

    • @jdfan0121
      @jdfan0121 5 лет назад +1

      Since the hole is only for the thin wire for the led strip you might be able to just loosen the side panel and run the wire between the side panel and the marquee - then when tightened back up it should be a small enough area that it doesn't show. ( or alternatively just cut a piece of MDF to use instead of the OEM marquee if you want to keep the marquee stock - Since the reflective tape might be hard to remove if you ever want to go back to the original. )

You can get them cheaper or make them cheaper by all means but we saw the trashing other vendors got for a low quality product, I guarantee you anyone who has actual bought the marquee from us will tell you the heart of the marquee, the print itself is top notch ;) At the end of the day you get what you pay for.

  • @ArcadeSchool
    @ArcadeSchool 5 лет назад

    I'm sure a lot of work went into engineering this, and it's good for what it is. The price isn't competitive though for what it is. I don't mean to be negative, but there are much higher quality lit marquees out there for the same price. I do like how you tried to think through the LED light bulbs shining through, but that's not a problem on your main competitor. In fact, I can see the bulbs on yours MORE than the competition. Also needs some kind of frame; I'm not a fan of the screws showing on the front. This also appears to be a lot more work to install. Again, I respect the thought and effort that went into making this, but I also like to provide constructive criticism. This would be a fantastic option priced at $20-25, but not $50.
    This isn't meant to be a diss -- I've got 2 builds on my channel using panels I got from you, and I love 'em. In fact, my latest video is about installing an audio system on your upper kick panel with speaker holes. I think your marquee is a big step up from the factory one. I just don't think it's worth $50. I'm sure the materials probably cost more than the price point I suggested, and that's why the price is $50; you'd have to look into sourcing bulk materials to cut the price down that low. I see people making these out of solid 1/2" polycarbonate though for $50, so I know it can be done.

    • @diyretroarcade
      @diyretroarcade  5 лет назад +2

      Yeah the cost come in using high grade thick translite material. We also use the same 10mil polocarbonate on the outside as we do on the CPOs we make. Honestly, I should have used a different marquee for the video and should have done it inside the office space where there is natural light. Its darker in the warehouse so the camera truly over intensified it all. You can see no single lights what so ever. Once we get all these 100% printed I will make a video of all them inside in the light.
      TBH you can install my marquee just as fast as a "plug n play" one. I can do one in 5 minutes if I do not have a camera in my hand. The quality is all in what is used, not the look of the install. I know many have complained about the marquee print quality of some and not being on actual translite. We are using genuine eco solvent Roland inks, premium film, cast acrylic and have played with the color profile for countless hours to get what I feel is a pretty great print that does not wash out.
      We do 100% appreciate the constructive criticism, its what makes our products better. We have one of the best, if not the best CPO out there and with feedback from users like yourself our marquee will get there too.

    • @ArcadeSchool
      @ArcadeSchool 5 лет назад +1

      @@diyretroarcade I like that you're using the translight. Obviously the video doesn't do it justice. Would there be a way to add a clip-on metal frame to this (even just top & bottom), and move the screws much closer to the edges so they're covered by the frame? That would be the biggest improvement I can think of. I do like the marquee overall and I buy your products regularly, so I know you do good work.
      It's true that the camera and setting can do poorly in doing justice to a product. It's also almost impossible to judge material quality from looking at a video; sometimes things look much worse than they are, and sometimes they look much better than they are. I deal with that all the time when I make my own videos, so disregard everything I said about aesthetics except the screws/frame part.
