John and Paul, Buddy's 2 biggest and most famous fans...John changed the name of his group from Quarrymen to The Beatles in honor of Buddy Holly and The Crickets
I never heard that thanks for sharing . They have a screaming guitar when they did the cover. I heard another version remastered that sounded very weak. I am an electronic technician and got a call from a freind who owned a music store and taught guitar lessons. He said a customer bought a guitar amp that belonged to john Lennon and it had just arrived from overseas . The customer bought it sight unseen. It was a rickenbacker amp and it sounded great my friend loved it. However it was eating tubes every 3 hours and they were glowing like charcoal. The customer did not want it eating tubes and my friend did not know how to fix it . He had two people there already when I arrived who were also tech's and were stumped on what to do. He told them to let me take over . Doing a visual I noticed the line choke of the power chord had been by passed . I hooked it back up and problem solved but It no longer had that crunch it had before so i told my friend to wire in a switch for the customer if he had an important lead to play. Play words of love from the 1963 music show with rodney berk on a good amp and i think you will hear one of John's and George's or both rickenbacker s they did this to. Not only did it sound great but before they got more powerful vox amps they needed all the power they could get for large halls and stadiums . Besides what's a few tubes to the beatles. They went all out for the buddy hollie cover . Also watch the I feel fine video with the beatles . I dont know if the maps were for studio or what but that is what I found!
Brilliant Paul, paying respect to the man who started it all for them when they were still teenagers, Buddy Holly. That'll be the day, the first song the Quarrymen ever recorded.
Two years later, I am thinking of "What would bespeckled John done without Buddy Holly giving him 'permission' to wear glasses?" Roy Orbison, too. But John never appeared in public like that. That must have been hard on him... headaches galore? Has anyone ever heard John suffered eye-strain headaches in those first pre-SGT PEPPERS days? I think 1966 and certainly 1967 were his first appearances in his round wire-rims, popularized in the film HOW I WON THE WAR. And SGT PEPPERS.
2021 SAME! MACCA forever the best! Saw him 2 1/2 years ago, Dodgers Stadium...Best Concert of my And my 36 year old daughters lives! And InMy Life...been to a lot of concerts!💕

palmalal I was 13 or 14 the first time I heard Words of Love, and it was The Beatles. When I got older and became aware of Buddy Holly I’d listen to him sing it and think,”No. That’s wrong. It doesn’t go like that.” Then I realized “He wrote it, Dummy. It’s not wrong. It’s different.” I love the higher harmony in The Beatles’ version. And when I listen to Buddy I help him out and I sing it.😊
What's amazing is listening to Buddy's self harmonies. He changes the harmony for different parts of the song. It goes along with the guitar changes. I can't believe Buddy died at 22. The Beatles did a great version of the song and overdubbed a George Harrison 12 string which totally fits with the song which was way ahead of its time back in 1957.
I love that very particular sound that Paul always gets from his Martin. Very simple, but clear and rich. Defined. The sound from his Epiphone is never anywhere near as good as this.
Oh please! There is nothing sacrilegious about doing beautiful songs without paying homage to one's artistic influence. The Beatles IV album is so special to me because it was the first we bought and Words Of Love is one of the treasure songs which sings for itself.
Really.! Paul's shiet is fantastic like him . Love love him. Since the very beginning. He and other Beatles still take my breath way and make me cry since I was 11 now I am 70. !!!!
The tempo picks up toward the end of his performance. Watch his eyes starting at 1:09. I think someone he loves is watching. His eyes keeps going back to her. The way my eyes go back to my love. Can't keep my eyes away. Tell me love is real.
I love this song. "Meet the Beatles," "Hard Day's Night" and "Beatles for Sale" are my favorites to capture the essence and soul of the early Beatles. I love the harmonies on this song. BTW, I absolutely adore the song, "Mr. Moonlight." I gaze out my window, through the night sky, and see the moon and God's loving grace and love under me. It truly feels like the Beatles are my friends. God bless everyone. As you can tell, I'm a disciple of Jesus Christ, and like King David, Jesus perhaps played a stringed instrument (I trust it was an ancient lyre or small Jewish harp) and created ALL things beautiful, and ALL things, I love you ALL. Joy fills my heart.
Wow that makes you realise the simplicity yet how powerful the feeling especially from someone so young. What an amazing talent that young man had before taken away from us. Utter beautiful superstar. Thankyou Buddy Holly. ✨💫💕
One of the great musical talents of all time, wow. Does justice to Buddy Holly. He's got to be looking at Linda around 1:15 watch his eyes keep going back and smiling.
Paul George and John harmonized so well. Paul must have done in the 1980s. His voice was still strong and he sounded just as well as when he was 21. Love when the Beatles preformed the songs of Buddy Holly, Carl Perkins Little Richard and Chuck Berry.

Great version. I'd only ever heard the version on "Beatles VI" with John doing the singing, and that version is excellent (would have gone to #1 had they released it as a single), but Paul's is very, very good!

@@kinuex Yes, but this is from The Real Buddy Holly Story, a movie Paul produced in 1987. Words Of Love was recorded by the Beatles and John did sing, but this is not about the Beatles .It's about Buddy Holly. Paul is playing along with Buddy Holly's record . That's why it sounds like 2 guitars.
This acoustic was done in 1987 as a tribute to budy holly..
It was 1987 in the Real Buddy Holly Story.
I've never seen Paul so at peace. It comes out in his voice as well.

Stu Suttcliffe came up with the Beatles, but you’re right he got the idea from the crickets.
"This is not bad for a guy from Lubbock right?" Buddy Holly was from Lubbock and wrote this song.

Buddy Holly Why wouldn’t I believe it? Someone has to be. That’s something to be very proud of.
60sTeen yeah but people come to me saying I’m just an impersonator of Buddy. But no, he’s my great uncle
Thank you Paul for that performance. It goes straight to the heart.
I love harmonising to this
me too hahaha.. he's doing John's part!!!!!!!!
with the right harmony vocals this one of the all time acoustic tunes...but so few can do it.
