I think the trick works on the principle that there will always be an equal amount of red and black cards, and because if you cut a deck in two, the number of red cards in the first pile with always be the same number as the number of black cards in the other pile (assuming that all 52 cards with no jokers are present).
VERY IMPORTANT COMMENT PLEASE READ When cutting the cards, to keep them in the alternating order cut half the packet at a time. If you cut it into three packets or more and switch them around it takes it out of the alternating order. This applies to all tricks with the alternating order.
@@nnamerz I don’t know that I can adequately explain it, but to figure it out, try manipulating cards in the same way a riffle shuffle would you can do this by taking your deck of perfectly alternating cards cutting it and placing them face up on the table, since the cards will be split up later you can think about it as rounds of two (ie first card and second card, third card and fourth card, etc.) in which you try to get two of the same color, in one round, this will be impossible if the top cards in your cut deck are different, if the top cards are the same it will be not only possible, but to pair them as 2 and 3, 4 and 5 etc. will be impossible. this is where cutting the deck comes in. In the case that the cards started with the same color on the bottom of the deck you will move an odd number of cards when splitting the deck which would adjust all of your cards by one setting up the trick, when cutting the deck when the shuffle started with different cards on the bottom the trick will already be set up, but you will be moving an even number of cards which ultimately won’t effect the trick.
Well, looks like I'm signing up for the master class, if you're willing to put this on RUclips I'm pretty much obligated to see what you're not willing to put on here, I'll admit it, I've been doing magic for over 10 years and you still got me with this one, I've never seen it before, great job!
I’m in the same boat! Been doing magic ever since I was 7 (now in my 20s) and Owen has some of the best content but I thought this title was just another clickbait “easy card trick that fooled George Washington” but I legitimately couldn’t figure it out lmao. Very similar to the red and black trick (can’t remember the actual name rn)
If I had the option to like this video more than once, I definitely would. This is exactly the trick I was looking for. Simple and easy to remember, yet gets a killer reaction! Thanks so much Oscar!!!
I still don’t get the riffle shuffle part. I know now it doesn’t need to be a perfect shuffle but can it be done 2 times for example? Can the deck be shuffled any other way as well? Can’t try right now because I don’t have a deck with me atm xD
Hey Oscar ,ihave been amazed by this self working trick,,have been ur subscriber when u had just 40k subscribers ..love from India..hope to see u soon reach one million family
Great card trick. However, it should be mentioned that the “technique” behind it is the so-called “Gilbreath Principle”. This was discovered by a mathematician named Norman Gilbreath and first published in 1958 in the magazine "the Linking Ring" magical greetings from Switzerland
The reason this works is because after one (and only one) riffle shuffle each group of two cards, starting from the top, will have one red and one black. When you deal the cards into two piles, the colors will always correspond to each other.
That would be true in a perfect riffle shuffle, but he messed it up a bit to show the main part of the trick. In other words you DO want to show that the cards are mixed.
This part is somewhat confusing -- so the riffle shuffle does not have to perfect (correct?) but you can only do one riffle shuffle? If you do multiple riffle shuffles does it mess up?
To see how it works do the riffle shuffle face up one or more cards at a time from either pile. No matter how many cards are taken from each side the colors will still be paired up as opposites. 50% of the time the first and last cards will be extras. That is why there is a final split. The top and bottom cards should end up the same color.
Lol it’s great to see you here and I agree many magicians know this principle. Oscar owen’s videos tend to be a bit over-hyped and over-dramatic for what they are… I much prefer your style lol. Hope to see some more uploads from you soon
Giving something of value to a prospective customer psychologically indebts that customer (you) to the seller, and stimulates you to want to engage further with seller. Trust builds from there, and the next thing you know, you're shelling out an incredibly reasonable amount for his magic course, and learning more than you ever thought you would. I think you should go for it.
You said after shuffling they always alternate but that’s not the case if u have a red on the top and accidentally cut on a red one to put it on the top?
But what if the two matching cards are within the first 5 cards? Do you just cut them at that point (which seems odd) or go to the next matching colored pair further down the deck? But will that damage the effect of the trick.
Well ofc its the same Red card and black cards (The magician is also doing the black and red pattern) Or maybe 4:30 explains it Edit 1 : It also looks shuffled for the spectater sooo maybe it actually looks like magic
What i dont get is why would u set it up if u just shuffle it again?? Cant u just start with them mixed and then split when there are 2 of the same colour
Sir Your Master Class Is Very Much To My Country Currency Iam From Bangladesh And Basically Iam Not Telling To Give Free Class Obviously Evrything has a price but i just need one thing to learn that how to force card to think this trick is very useful to make a routine so if you can help plz😅😅
I can’t figure out how trick works, especially since the riffle shuffle doesn’t really matter!? Either way great trick and it fooled me and is still fooling me
I can't get this one to work. the final two decks are never equal and i'm left with one pile without the other one to mirror the moves. also the spectators piles are not all red or black. i tried it face up to see it in action and it didn't work. i have even number of red and black cards, i alternated the colours, i cut the decks. i did the riffle shuffle. i cut the decks at the double red or double black. i cut it into two piles and played the mirror game. tried it 3 times and all 3 times failed.
You need to start with the same number of red and black cards in the deck. Then, after the shuffle you divide the cards into two piles by placing one card in each as done in the performance (don't randomly cut it into two piles). That way you ALWAYS have the same number of cards in each pile. Just copy what i do on screen exactly and it works.
Hi.. My 10 Yr old is very interested in the 14 day magician course but he's gonna save up his pocket money and do it when he's ready with the amount. Hope it will still be $47 only..??
For the first part, when the deck is cut, since all the cards are in alternating order they will stay in an alternating order when moved around without any actual shuffling, it just changes where cards are but the alternating pattern still exists, when the cards are genuinely shuffled it will be guaranteed that an even amount of similar colors will exist, as when cards are shuffled the pattern goes from r, b, r, b, r, b, to r, b, b, r, r, b. That was just an example, but the concept is the same, next when the card is cut once more there goes from an even amount of matches to an odd amount, then when the cards are spilt, it is split in such a way so that they are alternating. When the cards are still in alternating pattern it will stay as such and it will work, but when there are matches the odd amount of matches helps ensure that they will stay as such for reasons I am still trying to figure out. Idk how to put in math terms tho.

I literally spent an hour figuring it out, that’s genius.
How does it work because I'm still confused why splitting the deck at 2 identical coloured cards makes the trick work?

You need to start with the same number of red and black cards in the deck. Then, after the shuffle you divide the cards into two piles by placing one card in each as done in the performance (don't randomly cut it into two piles). That way you ALWAYS have the same number of cards in each pile. Just copy what i do on screen exactly and it works.
