I think jackknife alert only happens with traditional hitch trailers. Every time I back my travel trailer in the driveway I get the alert. You also need to have all your trailer specs entered into the truck. I have the accessory camera, awesome btw, so in order to make the transparent trailer thing work you gotta input a series of measurements from the trailer, then jack knife alert works.
Wow your telling me that this guy even had a dummy alert and still wrecked his truck? 🤯
@@jon5159 i said I get the Jack Knife warning, I have never had the trailer actually hit the truck.
@Heath Aggen you're not the dummy lol, he's talking about the guy in the video
I gotta say, I love the videos you do. I've been looking into trucks and campers and your videos show me alot of answers to questions that I cannot find a answer for. And to note you give a nice vibe like me the viewer is there with you and you just showing me how it's done...instead of it being like just some dude trying to explain things like he's reading from a note pad. Love your work man.
It wasn’t an attempted jackknife, you completely succeeded.
Two things I took from this video.
1- The GMC does the job when it comes to that standard box and the 5th wheel U-Turn. My buddy ended up getting the long bed Denali and loves it but he was nervous his set up would hit the cab.
2- Damn, your drain pipes hang low on on your 5th wheel. I never realized that until today.
Love the content.
I have rarely needed to make a 90 degree turn or I turn for that matter. I’ve probably done it maybe 3X in 4 years
Lol! When I bought this rv, I was very concerned by it but with all the traveling we have done, no issues! Thanks bro 👍🏾
The poor tires on your trailer 🤣. That side load when making tight turns and jack knifing it is rough on them! Great job on the videos!
Thx JB for informative video with real world demonstration of clearance issues alot of 5th wheel users either dont understand or are not informed about. You identified the issues regarding goose neck ball location in bed and Goose Neck bed rail clearance issues and the impact on same with different inclination of trailer and truck when performing min turn radius manuevering. I have a DRW '15 GMC with LB DC which I pull 40' TH fitted with Gen 1 20k Goosebox which has a shorter overall length than newer version like yours but I keep a close eye on bed rail clearance vertically and horizontally when in uneven terrain and tight manuevering. Happy Holidays to you and yours JB.
Thanks Bill, you have the best truck for this type of application and you’re towing a big boy RV! I’ve held off on a bed cover for clearance but at some point I’m gonna need to pull the trigger because I need one badly. Happy Christmas and New Year 👍🏾👍🏾
All that I took from this video is that I'm having a severe case of garage envy!
Short bed and fifth wheels do not go together.
Anderson Hitch for the win 🏆
@@tumbleweedking5668 till you see what happens in an accident
In this video it did 👍🏾
I've pulled them plenty . Not all travel trailers have the oversized fronts.
6 1/2 ft bed with a 5 wheel is Still better then a bumper hitch .
Hey just be careful when ground is not level. With little clearance you Def can hit there. I liked your video have a gmc shorted considering using for work with a gooseneck. I appreciate ya happy new year
Your good as long as you are on level ground. Do that in a dip and bam!!!
I have a 2022 Ram 2500 with ram boxes so I use the Reese Sidewinder. Changes the the pivot point to the upper part of the arm, not inside the bed. 1000% worth it and you can easily 90 degree turn no problem. Also, my 2024 GMC sierra 3500 AT4 in thunderstorm gray will be delivered in 2 weeks. Can’t wait!
That’s just a badass looking truck
And the fact that you can drive it with 4-auto in that type of weather it’s perfect
auto 4wd is the stupidest thing ever. either use 4wd or don't. auto just wears the clutches in the t-case wayyyy too much. replaced too many of the early 2000s chevy t-cases just for that reason.
@@alexcockerill says who you
@@nmtz91 says experience as an automotive mechanic that works in areas that see a lot of snow... enjoy replacing your t-case since can't learn from advice!! feel free to call me when you need that done. it's only like a $3000 if you want new parts. you ignorance is unmatched. I bet you have a tough life....
Unless you have the 8 ft bed that cab leave a nice little ding. If you stopped in time is just hurts the plastic over hang. Experience gets us all. I was turning around in a loves parking lot. Unfortunately it was near the cat scale and that tiny so little ramp to the scale was just enough to have a bad day. Even with swinging a little far atleast as much with the space given.
Really wish every 5th wheel came with limitation hitches
I've been hoping you would make this video since you picked up your AT4. I have a 2022 3500 Denali with a standard bed and was hoping a Reese Goose Box would work. It's such a great setup. We're planning on picking up a GD Reflection 303rls in 2023. By the way, I really enjoy watching those Wasatch Mountains on the horizon in these videos. You've picked out a beautiful place to call home!
A standard bed is 8 foot. Not a short bed
Thanks... my bed is 6' 10", so I found the video quite compelling.
Nice, I wanted the Denali with the blackout but they didn’t have one in stock… Be careful when you make the turn because every fifth wheel will have different results and I never mentioned the bed cover clearance 👍🏾
@@pilot41186 standard is 6’9. Long bed is 8’.
@@XploreAz no a short bed is not a standard bed. The name change was in the early 2000s and doesn't make it fact. Short beds are for girls who go to the mall
I have the Reese goose box also but I went with the b&w 4 inch offset ball.
No way I didn’t know you could do that to a fifth wheel!! Just the that’s awesome
I know those sewer lines hang way too low! Man……that’s a problem waiting to be a catastrophe!
You need a pull rite automatic slider hitch for that short rd truck I have one in my short bed 2500 Chevy no problems on tight yurns
I was panicking when you made the turn ! Good job.
Lol, I was nervous when I saw my wife’s face 😂
Like your videos, you put some awesome content out there.
I’m looking to possibly purchase a Grand Design Momentum 320G. Do you think I’ll be within the limits of my truck (2024 GMC 2500 AT4)? Planning on using the garage for a golf cart.
Your bed length puts your pin weight behind the axle and that is a situation I always avoid and the reason I now go with a long bed. Didn't realize how bad it was until I got an auto-slider in my short bed a couple trucks back.
Just picked up my '23 3500HD Crew, Long Bed, DRW a few weeks ago from your same dealer (Jerry Seiner is the bomb) and can't wait for the weather to warm up a little.
We should hook up some time and see if we like the same types of recreation.
That mountain 🏔️ view though😍
The new ram and most new cummins now have glow plugs. My ram starts instantly in 0 degree weather and I have grid heater delete...you have a heater block all diesel come with them, and a garage plug it in. It will be 120 to 150 degree on cold start.
I got a 6 1/2 ft bed 5th wheel 25 ft RV camper I can’t turn a full 90 degree angel without it hitting my truck probably a 75 degree or more. But it sets up plenty high I don’t have to worry about it hitting my bed sides.
Good video 😀 just saying long bed trucks are better for fifth wheels for weight distribution and clearance back cab some people go short bed because it looks good not that it functions and sooner or later you will hit the cab I'm on my fifth duramax crew cab long bed I've never hit but it could happen
Fact review.
Cool video, nice wheels too! I mean all of them !
This is why I have a Pullrite Auto Slider…. Don’t know how many times I’ve heard you don’t need it….
That’s what we do for a living before. We delivered campers all over the US and Canada.
You definitely touched the cab with the trailer at one point. Doesn't look like it did any damage but that was close. I've got a 23 F350 on order but with the 8' bed. Thanks for the video
Good Morning. Trailers leak power 24 7 now. You must turn off the battery or add Solar, Jack
Just want to say thanks! I have owned many trucks and RVS and found your earlier video comparison of the 2022 GM 2500 vs 3500 SRW (data plate and spring setup) most informative. I was going to get a Dually to pull my new Cyclone 4115, but chose to just upgraded my shortbed 2500 with the overload springs from a 3500. It pulls effortlessly and easily turns 90°.
The 3500 DRW springs are 3 blade springs with 3 blade over loads. The 3500 SRW is 4 blade spring with only a 2 blade overload. Weird why GM did it differently on the 3500s but maybe to keep the ass end lower on the dually ?
Thought for sure something was going to get crushed. Nice work on this one 👏👍
It’s a 90* turn,…but it’s a puckering 90* 😳. Personally, I’d stick with my long bed. That would allow me to make those even sharper turns that I’ve had to make.
Beautiful trk/trl I love the way that truck sound… you might look into a sliding fifthwheel, not sure if it’s available with a GN but if it is it can give you that extra room when you need it
My toy hauler always kills the battery unless I unhook the terminals. The kill switch doesn’t kill everything. It’s a pain for sure. I think the self level system has a constant draw. I am going to investigate where the draw is coming from and make sure it’s ran to the master kill switch. I’ve also considered doing a solar panel system to keep a charge going to the battery.
Interesting, do you have iN·Command? I’m wondering if those two systems are draining the batteries because I checked and nothing else was on.. I’ve considered getting a solar system installed but I don’t have the money to right now 👍🏾
@@JB_WhoWork yes it has the In Command system. It could also be that as well. I know their are 3 cables to the negative and positive terminals and only one cable goes through the disconnect switch, so I’m going to put the other two cables through a disconnect switch as well to try and stop it. I agree the solar system is nice but very pricey, that’s why I haven’t done it yet as well…
JB I can solve your problems with your batteries 🔋.
When you unplug the A.C. 120 volt ⚡, you must unplug your 12 volt D.C ⚡ batteries. All Travel Trailers must have a 12 volt D.C. ⚡ shut-off switch, No Fires 🔥 when in long term storage.
Now they can NOT discharge.
The perfect reason an 8' bed rules the roost I don't know why truck manufacturers are going away from 8' bed trucks....if I cant get 2 standard size pallets or 4x8 size plywood or sheet rock in the bed and close the tailgate the truck is useless.
Nice video !! Beautiful view of the mountains in the background.
At least you admitted it I didn't have to tell you. Genius.
I heard when you convert from a fifth wheel to a goose neck hitch it puts extra pressure on the front of the trailer.
Beautiful set up.
I’m in the market for a truck like this but i wanted to see if these 3500 have a stiffer ride than the 2500 ? Or how would you compare the ride quality on both without a load ?
It’s not about the ride quality. It’s about the proper truck for the task at hand.
The 3500 has 1 additional leaf in the back pack and a slightly different gear ratio. Everything else is exactly the same.
@@skoffco Well hand I really don’t tow much , only like 3 times a year I’m moving my camper across the nation . Besides that I’m using my stiff ass dually as a daily for work . So yeah ride quality does matter to me in my situation .
@@CristianM4252 i love the ride on my 3500. the independent front suspensions makes a difference for sure. It's not like driving a luxury sedan but it sure as hell aint like driving a 3500 from 20 years ago either. My diesel is so damn quiet and its really comfortable on the highway.
@@EvilEye1986 appreciate the comment 🙏
This is the only reason I have an Demco autoslide setup!!
Don’t give it up you won’t get a better looking truck 😉
You’re not lying lol!
I am going to let you know we got a truck at our workplace that runs a gooseneck hitch like Us in a camper it's a Dodge ram 3500 short bed four-door the only problem is it has the work bed boxes it will not clear the bed if you take it that far it will hit the side of the bed with work boxes made in the bed if you keep the regular fifth wheel set up it does not get near it so they had to buy the aluminum gooseneck hitch that extends your height way up to get away from the bed
Also I've been looking for a good video on automatic sliding 5th wheel hitch. Iv seen a bunch of them but I still cannot find a definitive answer if the automatic sliding works the same way when backing a trailer...I would assume it does but I'm having a hard time finding an answer to that. All the videos and explanations Iv come across only explain it working going forward.
Close bro... Mann still really good... Truck looks good pulling that rv
Did you research the shortbed and towing 5th wheels?
Lot of good learning here.
Pullrite Super Glide will solve all short box problems, but it's heavy and expensive!
Batteries don’t charge well in frigid weather. Remove the batteries, bring inside, put them on a charger.
Thanks jb I learned a lot
Good afternoon sir family members and friends
Happy new years 2023
I took a retirement 61
I love the travel sometimes it's staying in the motel Can you drive the regular license for this
Which ball are you currently using with the Goosebox.
I am using the B&W gooseneck ball, it gives me some extra clearance between bed rails and fiver 👍🏾
That red "airline" hose was stretched pretty far as well. That's what would concern me the most with making a U turn with your setup.
The red hose is actually the breakaway line. It is definitely close to pulling the pin out and activating the emergency trailer brakes.
Good practice 💯
It's 1 degree here tonight in MO with negative wind chills
My friend just got one and deleted it paid $13k tho! For the delete
This made me nervous too lol.
Looking at this video though and I’m pretty confident that any bed cover that uses rails that clamp to the bedsides wouldn’t work making turns like that.
Lol! I actually got really close on the second attempt for some reason but surprised the jackknife alert didn’t go off??? That’s why I haven’t gotten a bed cover 😂, I do need one badly 👍🏾
@@JB_WhoWork I’m thinking that jackknife alert might be for bumper pulls only. But don’t quote me on that.
@@JB_WhoWork Check out the extang trifecta cover. No rails. I bought it specifically for that reason.
Looks good tho the truck :)
It does, roughest looking HD on the market 👍🏾
Hay man i watch alot of your videos and you had all these trucks BUT witch one would you say is the best for everything towing mpg longevity Etc let me know im in the market
I need to put a video together soon for this 👍🏾
Very nice truck 👍👍👍👍👍💯💯
Man that is really cool that you can do that 90 degree turn! I’m not so sure I would try that out in the middle of some BLM land. I think something might hit if the ground was uneven. The GMC might be growing on me😬🇺🇸💪
Bro, good point!!! I actually drop my RV for that very reason because I’ve gotten stuck going down 2 lanes and will never risk going down potentially uneven terrain. Come on man, the water is fine over here 👍🏾👍🏾
🇺🇸💪🏾
@@JB_WhoWork 😂
That trailer to cab clearance depends on how level the ground is.
When the 2024s come in are you gonna trade yours in for the better interior?
If you can afford a big fifth wheel Trailer, then you shut also have a long bed Truck with twin Axels to tow it.🤔The other Rig on the Road was a right setup with a real Truck to tow it.
11/10 scenery
Lol, I was gonna cut some of the footage but I figured people would like the mountain back drops 👍🏾
The GMC says it all Buddy.... LOL
💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
I didn’t see anything wrong with what you did. I am new to fifth wheel pulling. Pulled bumper for 40 years and we went to a fifth wheel last year. I am learning everything about pulling and backing you have to know where the limit is before you really get into trouble.
The only thing I have to say is “Demco auto slide” I use to be one of those then I got my Demco and never looked back 😅
Lol, yea slider hitches are super heavy which is why I rather just look back 😂👍🏾
I have the Demco auto slide but I really dislike that you have to be almost straight on to hook up and also to disconnect. You lose one of the pros of having a fifth wheel hitch because of that. When I get a new truck, I’ll be looking for a new hitch. I’ve also had a manual Curt slider hitch before my Demco.
"I called it a jackknife to click bate my a$$. "
Your hoa allows you to have a campground on side of your house?
I think Jack knife is only safe without a bed getting in the way so maybe a flat bed or no bed
My fifth wheel sabre 37fll has never t9uched the cab and I've tried. I think yours was much closer than mine.
Oh wow, Sabre must have a better cap design then 👍🏾
@@JB_WhoWork crazy how different everything works.
Probably also bent both axles on the trailer doing that
thats cute -1 degrees celsius lol its currently-42 degrees celsius where I live so -43.6 fahrenheit
Ha, I’m happy with my temps then 👍🏾
Always scared of popping tires off rims doing that stuff.
We could do a full 90 with out Ram 3500 Mega cab with short bed
i have the long bed version and i cant park it in my garage :(
One reason why I always go standard bed
@@JB_WhoWork literally all that was available. But long bed is better for pulling anyway.
Great video! 👍🏾
Thanks Walter 👍🏾
Cool 90 degree test. 👍👍
Thanks 👍🏾👍🏾
It's a goose neck hitch
When you hook up your safety chains are supposed to be crossed not straight on like you have them
Flat ground all good, but yeah that was close!
💯
As a truck driver jackknifing is something you should always avoid doing.
I wonder if my Long bed will have that issue?
That's why I only own an loooong bed truck.
GMC = GET ME A MECHANIC. LOL
YOU KNOW IF THE MANUFACTURES WANTED A GOOSE NECK IT WOULD ALREADY HAVE ONE. NOT A FAN OF CHANGING OUT OEM EQUIPMENT. GIVES MANUFACTURES WAY OUT OF WARARNTY CLAIM IF SOME FRAME DAMAGE OCCURES.
Do a parasitic draw test on the batteries...bet there is a draw on the battery
Thanks I need to figure it out because two batteries shouldn’t get drained within 24HR
Wow, that looks scary 😨!
It is, I was nervous the second time because of my wife’s face 😅
@JB Reviews You could hear her on video. Really glad You give your honest opinion about the 3 different trucks when it comes to making that 90゚ turn. My brother-in-law who retired from GM bought in 2016 a duly. Did not have the jack knife alert. Anyway in making a 90゚ turn while they were traveling across the US he shattered the back cab window. Lesson learned the hard way!!! ✌️ out.
I was oooohhhhhing along with your wife when you got it to 90° 🧐🤔🥴😵💫
Keep a trickle charger on your batteries when RV is not in use for a period of time
You could look into 6v batteries as well. Hold a charge better and longer.
I have it plugged in to the side of the house now but when it was in the road, generator was the only thing that reached 👍🏾
i wish i had a truck like that
You can have a truck like this! Start next year 🙏🏾
after watching this I think it may be time to sell my Demco auto slider for the Reese's pin box
The water is fine over here brother 👍🏾👍🏾
Now if you had a 8ft bed
Jbreviews just dont hit like it used to with the RAM...
Well my channels algorithms say something totally different, I may never own a RAM again if it keeps up 😂 j/k
@JB Reviews we all know youll be back where you belong 😀
You have to have a fifth wheel hitch that way it won’t swing like that.
How much does that 5th wheel weigh?
When you say operating temp to 150, r u talking engine or transmission, oil temp ?
Coolant
