I would like to point out this only contains finnish language music there has been a lot of english language stuff made in finland ever since the fifties these songs are also from a fairly narrow spectrum genre wise
Many Finnish artists over the years recorded a whole lot of Italian hits in Finnish versions. Why not, they are awesome as original and as these versions. Naturally, English and German chart toppers are also well represented. Some singers here have world-class voices and language skills. E.g. Fredi and Laila have nothing to be ashamed of in the company of European/American singers. Laila Kinnunen sang so well in many languages that she was believed to be French by the French themselves. Today, singing melodically in tune is just not the same with modern technology - on stage with a mike like Sinatra, our singers shine beautifully in any tongue.
I think this is a bad video because it mainly focuses on only one genre of music. It ignores rap and metal music, which are really popular in Finland. Finnish rock is also very underrepresented in the video. This video perhaps represents the preferences of its editor, but not so much the many aspects of Finnish music.
I feel it's taking the most popular song in year in that. As metal is popular, but didn't usually go to top charts.
@@Aurinkohelmi I highly doubt this. Let's take the year 2004 for example. By any standard, Eppu Normaali's Suolaista sadetta has not been a big hit. If you look at sales statistics or radio playlists, the most popular song of that year would definitely be Nightwish's Nemo. This list focuses mostly on Schlager style music, with few exceptions, and does not really tell extensively about what is popular in Finland.
@@Metripoika Yeah shitty list was my first impression. And also the cuts were so short that you could barely get any grip of the songs.. I think it worked well for 50-80s but after that the list just didn't have enough variety since the music evolved etc.
Hello
I think the problem is they tried to include all kinds of genres and it ends up a weird combination. You have to have a grasp of what kind of genre trends there are going at the same time in different age groups for each decade and it is difficult to convey that in a single video
I respect your analysis, I think you are mostly right and not too far off anywhere. One thing you are witnessing the more and more professional production of songs, which came a bit late compared with larger countries.
That video did so NOT give an accurate representation of music from Finland, every single song was in finnish, they left out a TON of very popular, sucsessfull and influential artists... But my biggest gripe with the video... Finland is THE country with THE MOST metal bands per capita in the entire world, but this video did not include even ONE metal act!
Yeah as I replied to other comment.. the list kinda worked until 80s.. then it really felt short. Even 50s-90s the song samples were really short..
This video he reacted to was nothing more than a monotonous compilation of oldies, iskelmä and cheesy pop tunes apart from few examples of Suomirock, altogether lacking examples of Finnish rock, blues, prog, hard rock, metal, rap, EDM, punk...just to name a few.
As a presentation into the evolution of Finnish music it's below substandard.
I think this list is lacking a lot of variety. From 90' and so on, there were no samples of metal, or hip hop/rap, or techno (and all the sub-genres of those) etc. Only pop and rock. That is shame.
Not your fault, but the list was just a pile of shit. In the 80's two of the most popular bands were Dingo and Yö. They weren't there and none of the metal and rock music, that underlines Finnish music.
I wonder who's responsible for that video you reacted to as there was a lot of essential examples of Finnish music missing. They only focused on oldies, iskelmä (finnish schlager music) and cheesy pop tunes. Altogether missing was rap, EDM, blues, disco... and not even a single note of metal which has been a HUGE part of Finnish music that has steadily evolved ever since from the late 60's rautalanka (it's the same in English) to 70's progressive & hard rock like wigwam or rock'n'roll like Hurriganes onto the 80's punk, rock like Hanoi Rocks and poprock of Dingo and Yö
thus making the video just a monotonous compilation.
I hope nobody forms their perception and image of Finnish music and how it has evolved over the years.
The video gives quite a narrow look into Finnish music🤔 Well I guess it’s difficult to include everything in 10min. Even these clips were very short.
2:06 Finlands entry for Eurovision Song Contest 1962 placed 7. in the competition.
Also this was only Finnish language and only one genre, the so called ”popular” songs, Iskelmä in Finnish, easy to play on the radio. There are similar videos in yt to Finnish metal, rock etc. where other genres are presented too.
Hello
Thanks for sharing this video. I personally think that the songs in this video were many hits of their time, which could also do well in the world. Perhaps a more comprehensive overview of Finnish music is this show: ruclips.net/video/G_lz8-wUMk4/видео.html This band plays 100 Finnish songs in 10 minutes and is definitely worth watching. Thanks for the great reaction!
Thank you! I’ll have a look 🙏🏼
It's a snappy video, a glance at Finnish music, but I just felt like it was so lacking in depth with a few seconds of a single song for each year, I had to do my own looks at the 70s through 2000s. 'Course, they're huge slogs by comparison and nobody cares much. lol
Way too short tracks 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
You can thank record label mafia for that.
Please do Apulanta♥️
