HIDDEN DECAY inside BEHRINGER RD-6 analog drum machine (

  • As many of you probably might know by now, it is possible to adjust ‪@behringer‬ RD-6's Open Hihat decay by simply pressing function -button while turning the tempo knob in either direction. Clockwise turn of the tempo knob decreases the Open Hihat decay, while counter-clockwise turn increases the decay. This can be done in either Pattern Write or Pattern Play -modes. I welcome this feature since the Open Hihat has a little too much decay to my taste on factory settings.
Anyone who's familiar with the famous "Maffez mods" will know there is specific mod for the variable Open Hihat decay, and even further mods for virtually every function of the RD-6.
However, this video shows the quick and easy way to adjust or "tame" the long ringing Open Hihat decay that can be done by anyone not able or comfortable to start modifying their RD-6. This feature was added in one of Behringer's RD-6 firmware update a while ago, but there doesn't seem to be much videos showing this rather neat and hidden feature in action. The user manual obviusly doesn't mention this feature either.
    Enjoy!

Cheers, it does benefit from slight overdrive (and EQ-ing) to give it some character.

Have you tried this on other instruments like the bass drum or snare?

It only works with the Open Hi hat unfortunately.

Thanks for watching! The original TR-606 had similiar feature when DIN synced externally, where turnign the 606's tempo pot would affect its open hi decay. I guess Behringer wanted to clone that feature aswell for maximum authenticity.
