If they ever introduce job specializations (they won't), RDM would make 3 of them. Caster DPS (obviously), Healer, and Melee DPS. Imagine a healer with a proper DPS rotation that works because of the ability to weave whichever spells are needed due to dual cast, probably with some BLU like buff to increase healing at the expense of some damage. The melee version could be like the inverse of caster with using the sword skills to build W/B mana and spend it on spells for the same combo.
Both Hydalin and Endsinger. I raised everyone bare minimum once, we were crossing that finish line even if I had to drag their corpses across it. Both of those for my first clears were 7 comm runs
it's nice that, at its worst, a job in ff14 maybe looks at the other jobs and goes "I wish I could do their damage". I've never seen anyone make a video about how Red Mage can't clear X boss, or how Machinist can't be used in Savage content. The balance is pretty good in this game.
i was board with RDM in Endwalker but shockingly, slapping a few oGCDs has really helped it a lot, it genuinely just feels better now. it's also fantastic that i can immediately burst in dungeon pulls now, extremely silly that it took so long.
This why RDM is my main in FFXIV. It does damage but not the best, but it can res faster then other healers and smn but isn't really a great healer despite having decent skills to help out with it. Its one of the jobs where it does the "master of none" great that Red Mage has always had in the FF series. Also since we know our damage is bad we don't have to worry about major changes lol. Bravely Default games may be the only other games where RDM is fun to use or works well.

2 stacks of Acceleration that ends up giving you Grand impact and another instant cast, is actually pretty good mobility in my opinion, just another stack of it and it would not be too different from Triplecasts off of Black Mage
Glad to see you doing uploads again. A friend of mine linked me to videos of yours just before I first started playing the game. Your sense of humour was my first exposure to the FF14 community and I liked what I saw.
awh dude...the og rdm video is really 7 years old, that was one of first videos I watched of yours man is it nice to see videos of yours like this again, welcome back larry! TT
The funniest joke in the whole video was when he said RDM players actually get comms... 😭 For real though there's been a few times in EW and DT specifically that have made me start wondering if the fight design team just doesn't consider RDM when designing where to put the ranged dps players for mechanics. Golbez Ex, Zoraal Ja Ex, and M2S all have 1 or 2 moments where the melee combo during 2 minutes just isn't possible without dropping uptime, and P12S and M3S also have moments that take really unsettling timing to squeeze it in. The perfect solution that an fc friend said to me would be to make Manafication give you 1 melee combo phase that could be done from range. You'd still have to be in melee for most of the combos so it keeps the flavor but the 110s cd of Manafication would let you choose the 1st or 2nd melee combo under 2 minutes to be ranged as needed. I'm desperate for exactly this fix at this point
I haven't done Golbez yet but: - Zoraal Ja Ex 4 min burst: possible with a good tank who will pull the boss to the sensible side of the conga line (but hard). Also ok if you can finagle the M1 spot. Otherwise yeah you're screwed. - Zoraal Ja Ex 6 min burst: if you double combo and start your combo 5s before embolden, you can embolden and be in your finisher for breaking the chains. Alternatively, parties can hold burst 30 seconds because the aero jump interrupts everyone's burst and it just sucks in general. - M2S 2 min burst: in practice I get to melee combo while in a melee-range tower most of the time. In PF you can be the terrible person who aggressively takes towers early to not be forced to take a late ranged tower preventing you from bursting... ;) - M2S 6 min burst: 25% chance of a rough burst, but it's still very doable. Worst case you can do 1e23 like in M4S's 2-minute burst, but if you can instant cast and gapclose back then you're golden. The manafication idea your friend has is interesting, but I don't really think the QoL is that needed. It would make the job easier for sure, but working around potential downtime is one of the parts that makes RDM fun to optimise imo
@@adituv8565 To elaborate on Golbez, there's a mechanic that requires R/H pairs to sit in the corners of the platform and at one point that mechanic lines up with 2 mins such that you end up popping Embolden 2 or 3 GCDs before you can even get back into melee range. I quickly gave up on RDM and did all my runs of it on SMN because of that. As for M2S, my main gripe for the burst at 2 mins is that right around when I should be doing my first melee combo she does a point blank aoe that can't quite be max melee and misaligns the Embolden w/ the burst rotation. As for the 6 min burst, that one's not actually an issue at all as the burst window doesn't start until after all the puddles get baited.
@@WhywolfSenpai I start my melee combo a gcd early for M2S 2 mins, and add a grand impact to (almost) make up for the verholy that is no longer in buff window. 6 min final bait isn't an issue if you keep an instant cast ability back but if you mess that up and have to hardcast as soon as you get out of puddle, it can be a litle painful. Particularly if you're aligning embolden and manafication, where you want to start your combo ~5s before burst window
@@adituv8565 See that 6 minute situation is just an easy Reprise from me if I don't have any other instants left. Even if it gets me below 50/50 I can just Manafication the 1st melee combo and have enough for the 2nd
Yay! More Larryzaur! And my fav job, too! I went from healer main to RDM main (in ShB)...never looking back. I've saved so many raids and dungeon runs (and almost never got commed for it, unfortunately) by single rezzing or rezzing a healer who LB3's. Unfortunately, we don't get our main utility (the rez) until level 64...so I couldn't use it when our FC was doing UCoB. Granted, some of the numbers in the body count were mine with that one (especially Nael; we sadly never got past him).
He didn't forget about PCT, it's just too hard to speak about it, considering the trauma from PCT getting everything SMN would like to have (minus cast times).
I might be in the minority on this, but having some skills evolve on just a single button for the combo would make the game more enjoyable to me. It would really help to clean up the messy tool bars.
in 9.0 where most jobs have button bloat this will probably more common i also want the melee single target combo to be one button like the aoe combo cause if i lag a little bit the combo breaks
I'm glad to see a fellow blue glamming RDM. Bravo comrade. Show off that ver-rizz. And ty for singing RDM praise. I've always enjoyed RDM and still do.
Hey there, red mage main here! Little history on the job: Throughout the Final Fantasy series, red mage has always been the "jack of all trades, master of none" job. They couldn't cast 3rd-tier and up of white or black spells, but being able to cast 1st and 2nd tier of both kinds of magic was very useful. They tended to be tankier and faster than a normal mage, but not as tanky as... well, a TANK, or as fast as one of the dex classes, like bard or dancer. Overall, red mage traded out specializing in any one area of combat (damage output, tankiness, healing output, or speed) for the versatility of doing them all at a slightly reduced capacity. It was generally a more adaptable class, supporting the party in multiple ways, depending on what was needed from moment to moment in a fight. It plays a little different in FFXIV, but its utility isn't to be overlooked. Party buffs are always great to have, and don't forget that red mage has a magic barrier that can cover the whole party if they're close enough. And of course, having another person in a party with a rez can be invaluable, and that red mage can just instantly cast it whenever they like is pretty dang powerful. Still drains mana like a fire hose when rezzing multiple people but hey, that's what Lucid Dreaming is for, amirite? XD
I once raise both healers as the entire party died, sacrificed myself the stack marker that came shortly after to keep the tanks alive who were the only ones who didn't die, just to spend the rest of the fight in the dirt as the two clowns healing kept raising the melee to die again. I never touched RDM again, and became a SAM main that day.
You are so right, King, and you should say it!! I did a run of The Lighthouse SB alliance raid once where I actually lost track of how many rezzes I did.... It was more than 13, at minimum..... I got commends from other parties in that alliance raid. No better high for a red mage.
The main paradox about red mage is how whenever they change it , and do things that other jobs would be considered “ruined” it just makes playing it more fun

I'm Shadowbringers baby and I've mained RDM since I finished SHB. After DW tho I've been leaning more into DNC. BUT this video tugged me back to RDM. Hurrah!
I have single handedly saved enough normal raids and ex trials (and helped save prog runs in savage runs) as a RDM that I could never give the job up, it just feels too good. helps that the job is just so much fun and stylish.
In Final Fantasy 5 Red Mage takes 160 ABP just to get to its penultimate level and then grind 999 ABP to learn Dualcast. It is one of the grindiest jobs in that game. And you don't get that job until you get to the second crystal. In FFXIV Dualcast is a level 1 Red Mage trait. You put your hand on a thin sword, and you automatically learn it.

Also: Holy cow, it's the Contre Sixte/Fleche swords?! My god man! You just made it 100x better! I mean, I already loved the animation on that ability (Refulgence? I just know it's the Manification button after Resolution XD), but the fact it's like raining the ethereal swords is amazing!!!
Now they just need to give us the Vermedica and Vercure III that Alisaie used, and we're golden
Honestly yeah. When I saw her use vermedica I shouted right then "I WANT THAT TOO"
If she can do it, I feel like there's no reason a WOL who is the only non-padjal WHM shouldn't be able to figure it out!
Wait, she had Vercure 3 as well? I only saw Vermedica 2!
@@terceleto Bruh, was my reaction to it as well, saw Alisaie was a healer option, was like 'huh?' saw the aoe verheals and immediately shouted in FC chat " I WANT THAT" Bonus points that she keeps up her dps rotation while verhealing the party
@@rayllis689 yeah I was really impressed with her as a healer! (sorry Alphinaud!)
You know the job is fancy when people can’t help but watch your LB3 the entire time. They literally cannot help it.
it's nice that, at its worst, a job in ff14 maybe looks at the other jobs and goes "I wish I could do their damage". I've never seen anyone make a video about how Red Mage can't clear X boss, or how Machinist can't be used in Savage content. The balance is pretty good in this game.
i was board with RDM in Endwalker but shockingly, slapping a few oGCDs has really helped it a lot, it genuinely just feels better now.
it's also fantastic that i can immediately burst in dungeon pulls now, extremely silly that it took so long.
thanks for the video larry
its VER-y interesting
00:30 you dont have to freakin ruin my day like that man
Red Mage: The style and utility casting job.
He put the Red Mage in blue, and the Blue Mage in red, my small mind can't comprehend.
Never knew about the tilted dresser, so...thank you for giving that mental damage forever.
this job is so great i cant wait for next expac where we get verfire and verstone 3 (theyre only 20
potency buffs and mainly just animation upgrades)
I mean I kinda unironically want that
Jolt animation looked fine since it's the basic filler we use when we don't have procs, why does Jolt 3 look cooler than Verfire and Verstone when those are supposed to be the better versions 😔
@@naoremonthI understand that fire/stone are dps increases but jolt 3 gives me happy brain chemicals
definitely surprised that they didnt get upgraded this expac though but they gotta save some stuff i guess
I want Verice and Verwater as AoEs. Although the new ogcd is technically Verice.
Feels nice especially in zones like Bozja and Eureka saving people from penalties.
"Achievement Unlocked: The Kindness of Strangers V"
There’s something very special about RedMage in that it’s perfect.
"If you're going for the glamour endgame, you can't do much worse than red mage"
wait so red mage is the worst???
is this the paradox you mentioned
It was that video from seven years ago (okay, for me it was only four years ago...) that made me fall in love with Red Mage - a love that still burns to this day ^.^
2 stacks of Acceleration that ends up giving you Grand impact and another instant cast, is actually pretty good mobility in my opinion, just another stack of it and it would not be too different from Triplecasts off of Black Mage
Glad to see you doing uploads again. A friend of mine linked me to videos of yours just before I first started playing the game. Your sense of humour was my first exposure to the FF14 community and I liked what I saw.
Your content is so underrated imo. I love your humor and this stuff. Keep doing what you do.
The 7 years ago on the previous vid had me wheezing 😂 ya sense of humour and wit is always so on point
Oh... I interpreted this as "Red mage has Paradox"
awh dude...the og rdm video is really 7 years old, that was one of first videos I watched of yours
man is it nice to see videos of yours like this again, welcome back larry!
I haven't done Golbez yet but:
- Zoraal Ja Ex 4 min burst: possible with a good tank who will pull the boss to the sensible side of the conga line (but hard).
In PF you can be the terrible person who aggressively takes towers early to not be forced to take a late ranged tower preventing you from bursting... ;)
- M2S 6 min burst: 25% chance of a rough burst, but it's still very doable.
@@WhywolfSenpai you know... You're right. I completely forget reprise exists lol
this video made me ver-y excited to play redmage again lol
kind of funny since it was your orginial guide that made me play it years ago XD
The quicktongue melds hurt me to the very depths of my cold, black soul.
randomly finding your videos, and your enthusiasm has convinced me to pick up the game, haven't played since 2017
Can't go wrong with Red Mage! Excellent job design!!!
the irony of the your blue and red mage glam colours is not lost on me
currently using Red mage for the Stormblood msq. been loving it during the entire time.
I am so so glad Larry is back. Thanks for making more amazing videos!
eagerly awaiting your pictomancer video that you're definitely going to make :)
Return of the king
holy cow you uploaded something! TIME TO START THE DAY!
It's so good to have you back
Stop what you’re doing, grab a coffee and some snacks. A new Larryzaur video is here
I love when Larry forgets that there's another caster, PCT and also forgets Hroths and Viera who can't use hats
He didn't forget about PCT, it's just too hard to speak about it, considering the trauma from PCT getting everything SMN would like to have (minus cast times).
Somewhere Jesse Cox's ears are burning.
he is already here in the chat among us lol
I might be in the minority on this, but having some skills evolve on just a single button for the combo would make the game more enjoyable to me. It would really help to clean up the messy tool bars.
in 9.0 where most jobs have button bloat this will probably more common
i also want the melee single target combo to be one button like the aoe combo cause if i lag a little bit the combo breaks
I literally burst out laughing at the spell speed melds my roommate came to see if I was ok
I'm glad to see a fellow blue glamming RDM. Bravo comrade. Show off that ver-rizz.
And ty for singing RDM praise. I've always enjoyed RDM and still do.
"That's because I penta melded spell speed" the P A I N
I picked up Red Mage as my caster for role quests and I accidentally found my new favorite DPS at the moment
Hey there, red mage main here! Little history on the job:
Throughout the Final Fantasy series, red mage has always been the "jack of all trades, master of none" job.
XD
I once raised 5 teamates on a raid with RDM and it earned me 0 comms so now that button has been moved to a cross hotbar I can't reach as easily.
It's the coolest realisation of the spellsword archetype across any medium imo
Larry what have you done!!! Now the tilted glamour dresser will haunt me to no end 😱😱😱
This job really is so ver-cool; since I picked it up as a second class, I play it for fun/style/comms. It helped push me past the 4k comm mark.
WHAT?! Larry went the whole video without making a Ver-joke? What kind of BLASPHEMY IS TH-
*sees the end of the video*
All is right in the world now xD

I will meld all the spell speed I want, Larry!

proud to say i've been a RDM main since progging E4S that many years ago
tried PIC this expansion but i still went back to RDM for savages
Ver-blow me! Larrysaur has ver-actually released a new ver-video about Red Mages??? In 2024?? *VER-HELLZ YEAH!!!*

Larry painting his RDM Blue and his BLU Red is causing me severe mental damage.
So true that RDM is definitely the class with the most style points in everything they do
2:45 Amazing Chris Pratt impression, Larry!
I feel this enthusiastic about a lot of jobs. I just fking love job design in xiv they're SO. FUN.
Watching Larry not only hard cap his mana but also Manafication thus wasting the mana from Verflare/Verholy, Scorch and Resolution brought a tear to my eye. Masterful gambit, sir.
And having his red mage outfit be blue and his blue mage outfit be red was the cherry on top.
Every time there's a red mage in my dungeon runs they always seem to know what theyre doing lolol
You were the chosen one, Larry. It was said you would lift up the Summoners, not destroy them! Give then hope, not leave then in darkness...
I'm Shadowbringers baby and I've mained RDM since I finished SHB. After DW tho I've been leaning more into DNC. BUT this video tugged me back to RDM. Hurrah!
"Look at this hat!"
"....I CANT WEAR HATS ANYMORE!" *cries femhroth tears*
This is the first video has me going “okay red mage seems cool”.
"A blue Red Mage? Silly Larry, getting the colours mixed up." - Says me, the Black Mage main dressed in red.
RDM was my first proper caster! I love this job so much and frequently swap between SMN (:
I believe in red mage supremacy
