Have autocrossbow refresh OGCD's, because honestly that feels like an oversight, reduced AOE to Air Anchor for consistency, and add extra damage to Flamethrower while Bioblaster DOT is active, and that'll do 'er
Air anchor could have a little 15y group up mechanic, like it just pulls everything in for your bio blaster or other small range AOEs to be a little more useful
It would be cool if they made the flamethrower do extra damage to targets affected by bioblaster since they are both for are anyways and it would act as a buff for both tools
No no the SMN to MCH pipeline is real because it happened to me when I wanted a class that felt and looked cooler than SMN (Don’t blame me, I was just starting Heavensward..) and MCH descended from the Skysteel Factory to bestow me with a gun. Mch is my fav job, so seeing it so low hurtssss 😭 I still do okay (usually top dps unless there’s a picto) because I’m very experienced, but man… Knowing that I don’t make up for the lack of team buffs with damage makes me 😔
I loved Machinist's Overcharge for the 'slow to fast/Dragon Install' burst style. I love slapping buttons and going super quick. Unfortunately, Queen just feels like a very, very hollow summon attack, and I have had an on-again-off-again relationship with Wildfire as a concept for the job over the years since I started in SB. I'm currently having the time of my life since we now have two melees that have an install-style burst in Viper and Reaper that just ran in and yoinked everything I loved from Machinist and gave you charges on their tool equivalents way earlier than MCH gets them. It's really odd that you don't get charges on Drill right when you get it, but I guess they don't want Thordan or Shinryu parties just shooting two drills into the guys face the second the pull timer ends.
QoL stuff for MCH: Airanchor->aoe Autocrossbow->give recharges like the single target Wildfire->aoe Flamethrower-> while the Bioblaster-dot is on the target the damage of flamethrower is doubled Queen->aoe
How does MCH PVP have better AOE cause most of this list is literally in PVP MCH. My only suggestion difference is Flamethrower is reworked to a placeable Flame Turret sharing resources with Queen so you have to decide which you need
Lol YoshiP flat out said "NO" to even raising the tomestone cap that hasn't been touched since mid ARR. Aint no chance we are going to be gearing 2 jobs. Lock in what you want to play in the 7.11 ult at 7.05 and pray.
@@Dharengothats not what they said? they said you have to lock in one job to gear for the upcoming ultimate, which sucks because its restrictive. and if you knew anything about ultimates at all its that going in with anything but bis on patch is trolling
for the gearing issue, why doesn't square just make it so you can double your weekly tomestone cap, with the restriction that you can only get one piece of gear for each type of job, it's not perfect, and some would just use it to get the chest/legs early for the higher gear, but it also allows for the freedom to split up your tomestones and gear two jobs at once, and then, just like with raid tiers, when the raid and tome cap restrictions fall off, so does the gear purchase limits.
10:10 Ah yes, the continuation of the end-game gearing BS into DT. I swear everyone I get into the game is like "Why would I do that?" when I explain how end game gearing goes lmfao
Liking the 100 MCH (in single target anyway) My wishlist: 1. Let wildfire crit/dh, and give it aoe damage 2. Queen aoe damage 3. Auto crossbow should refresh ogcds 4. Make flamethrower a normal gcd, let it combo with bioblaster to set the gas on fire and do more damage. Give it enough potency that it's worth using in single target, so you have to have a drill charge for bio blaster every minute too. This would give you a bit more variety every minute. Also should probably generate heat. 5. Buff ranged and caster dps across the board! (Not you picto)
I like the idea of Machinist being the 'defensive utility' opposed to Dancer being single target damage support and Bard being AOE damage support. It just needs to have higher personal damage and maybe one more party mitigation skill.
It's a weird one, technically it IS a gain with enough enemies when otherwise you'd be doing shotgun filler. Minor potency changes also affect this so over the years it's kinda been that meme ability that you never really know when it's a gain
I find the general rule for a pull to be, use bioblaster, hypercharge auto crossbow spam while weaving both checks. If you get to a pull and your checks are on cd, you have no heat, barrel stabilizer on cd, bioblaster on cd, Then you can use flamethrower
The balance I've found is to run dungeons with SMN and raids/trails with MCH. Downtime between pulls means you can burn through summons quickly which feels fun (same on hunt trains) where as single target with MCH feels amazing firing guaranteed direct critical hits.
It’s super consistent damage provided your mch can press their buttons, as opposed to bard and dancer which a lot of their damage contribution relies on your party doing their rotation/burst correctly and not dying
What you said at the end about not being able to have multiple mains is literally my biggest gripe with this game lol I love so many jobs and I'd love to play them all in endgame content but it's hard. Especially with how costly crafted gear is. And by the time it's a somewhat reasonable price, people have mostly moved on from the endgame content. It's a big reason I've started to level my crafters/gatherers cuz then I can just make my own crafted gear.
On that note of gearing multiple jobs - all I want is a tome discount system, wherein if you buy a helmet with tomes then all other helmets of that gear set are like 50% off. After your first set of gear, any other set you want comes a lot faster.
Honestly SE needs to get over their ranged tax … like there’s no reason for ranges to deal less damage when even fights that have a lot of disengage for melees and full uptime for ranges, melees still pull a head
Yeah it makes 0 sense, the one benefit they have is free uptime yet melees have to disengage for like 4 GCDs in an entire fight... And uptime strats make it easy for them. Buff the damage!
The fact that you can still hit constantly without disengaging is why. In paper, its not much, but it is gameplay wise. How less pain in the ass ranged dps to play is amazing. Disengaging as melee can means fucking up entire rotation and burst window.
Played machinist since HW, and have been maining it in ShB, EW, and DT. It's always the class I come back to, simply because it's been so fun to play! Even in the "gun-mage" days, lol. Do still miss the dot, Lead Shot, and the old turret placement tho. But still, it's fun and I love it to bits! ^^ Also seeing that old HW footage, wow, what a flashback! XD
As i picked up MCH seriously recently, i realized with the new stack feature on hypercharge you can use it with your chain, drill or chainsaw up. this doesn't consume stacks! (combo hit does) and you still have enough time to use your 5 stacks of hypercharge if you only use one of your drills. It feels so wrong tho XD.
I love that Dismantle is a wrench, because you are literally throwing a wrench in the enemy's plans. And also it's a tool that can be used to dismantle things but that's beside the point, really.
you get me larry. could MCH be doing more damage?ofcourse it could (please SE) but that's not the end be all for the job. It can still clear all the content and most importantbly IT FEELS GOOD. Meanwhile I was a hardcore AST main in EW, it's currently the healer with the highest damage and it feels so bad that I refuse to play it again. Give me back my cards and mana 😭
Isnt machinist technically better than all the other physical ranged since it’s the only one that doesn’t have damage output Thats dependent on your other sucky teammates damage?
in scenarios wherein a party has a braincell, it would be a gain to have a DNC or BRD instead. especially if they sync buffs properly. in average DF stuff? MCH dps is probably carrying.
I’ve played MCH for majority of my time in XIV (been playing since 2.1) and I completely agree with your assessment on the current state of the AoE rotation. This is personally how I would fix it: 1. Instead of just making Air Anchor an AoE, I would change Flamethrower into a single hit AoE cleave that deals 300 potency to all targets and I would make it share a recast with Air Anchor like how Bioblaster does with Drill. 2. Decrease the potency of Auto Crossbow but make it capable of reducing the cooldown of Double Check and Checkmate. 3. Make Wildfire AoE from the target it is attached to like how it does in PVP. If the target dies before the duration expires, then it automatically detonates with max potency of 1440. 4. Reassemble doubles the DoT duration and the intial hit potency of Bioblaster for a total of 600 potency per target. More AoE utility for Reassemble would make AoE rotation far more engaging.
My FC put a static together again for this tier, and one of my buddies is a phys ranged main who prefers machinist, but has since gone dancer for prog. When we were progging the EX trials to settle into what we wanted to play, he started out as machinist, but got the dancer and bard weapon drops first, and by the time savage released, he decided that even though he can go any direction, dancer was probably our best bet because we have a samurai, and he's always complaining that MCH doesn't do enough dmg as a selfish DPS
A man of culture, I see. I'm completely obsessed with that class and IDC about its lower damage threshold. Bless. I ALSO REALLY REALLY REALLY LIKE ROBOTS. REALLY. REALLY LIKE ROBOTS.
Machinist Main since 2018 here, went into Dawntrail blind to the changes. The noise I made when I unlocked the second Drill charge was strong and true to my soul.
I know flamethrower is awesome looking, but I really do think there is a place for it in gameplay. No spells really want to channel in 14, which I honestly think could open up a ton of optimization. Might really make the classes feel different. That's all. Thank you for attending my ted talk.
I was Summoner up until Shadowbringers 5.1 when they put the pet abilities on the gcd. It felt so slow suddenly, so I went to Machinist for many button presses. Been enjoying both ever since.
MCH lacking an AoE battery spender and Flamethrower being borderline vestigial post-rework are the main things that bug me about the job aside from its DPS being low despite the lack of party buffs. Bishop Overload was really satisfying to use on big pulls back with its pre-ShB iteration.
As an automaton engineer, I absolutely love the class for how it looks and the way it plays. Even the quest story was fun, going from a band of rebels lead by a rebel nerd, into a small militia, and see the job skills slowly evolve into matrix jumps with robot stuff was amazing. I absolutely love that part of the design, but being locked out from pf due to bad job balance and being the butt of the joke for too long made me not main the job for the first time in the 5 years I've been playing, and just went to main my second main class. the gun tank. I truly dream to see the day we're free to deal damage like any pure dps job, but the weird balance they do around raids will keep stifling this job.
For the past 9yrs MCH has been one of those jobs that has always felt to me like its just 1 or 2 little tweaks away from being my favorite DPS in the game. I still dont think it's there, but this at least convinced me to level it next so I can check it out bc honestly 7.0 MCH really just looks amazing
I fell in love with machinist when I finally got around to leveling all jobs in later Endwalker. It's now the only dps job I really enjoy playing. I would have flamethrower do extra damage when enemies have bioblaster on them or something. Any reason to use it, please.
For me, the pipeline was Smn until EW -> Mnk -> DT Nin for a tier. I've always loved how Monk can build their own combo, and now I'm realizing Ninja has some old Smn blood with a frantic burst and a relaxed mid phase.
From what ive seen mentioned, flamethrower is good if hitting 4+ mobs cause of how it does its dot every second so hitting 4+ enemies makes its damage exceed the shottie.

Legit, Everytime I flamethrower I either drink or snack
Larry weaving in new vids left and right....or forward and back. Don't lose the squirrel mask ever.
Went from Summoner to Ninja and got the good chemicals from it. Now I'm very tempted to play Machinist too. I love me my piano/fast paced jobs.
I'm so happy to see you making videos again, bud. Keep up the good work.
At this point we might as well be using Pandora from devil may cry 4 with all the weapons we are pulling out lol
Have autocrossbow refresh OGCD's, because honestly that feels like an oversight, reduced AOE to Air Anchor for consistency, and add extra damage to Flamethrower while Bioblaster DOT is active, and that'll do 'er
THANK YOU LARRY FOR TALKING ABOUT GEARING ISSUE
Ah, Machinist. The "I have no idea what I'm doing but somehow everything is fine" job
LZ - "Job is fun"
SE - "Good enough, job fixed"
The way you laughed at "blast" was everything. Never change, Larryzaur.
I really cannot remember the last time I saw a Machinist in a Dungeon or Raid.
As a healer, I'll tell you that they're in the raid, but they're flipping around like crackheads JUST outside of my healing range.
I still love it after I finished Dawn Trail and was really excited for EVEN MORE GUN in its kit
Mch is my fav job, so seeing it so low hurtssss 😭 I still do okay (usually top dps unless there’s a picto) because I’m very experienced, but man… Knowing that I don’t make up for the lack of team buffs with damage makes me 😔
I'd have loved to see flamethrower turned into a flame turret aoe battery spender that acts exactly how it does now, except on a placeable turret
"I went to school for electrical engineering. I didn't graduate, but I did some calculus and stuff!"
You're not the only one! I'm in the same boat!
The fmf buff from 7.05 goes crazy seeing 150k direct crit feels good
"Thats just numbers. We can fix them"
Larry I think I read a romance novel with that same plotline.
Okay but just increase the potency of Flamethrower so I can actually use it
the problem with machinist is.....
THEY DONT LET YOU DUAL PISTOL TRIGGER HAPPY!!!!!
I like it better now that we generate even more charge, I really feel like I'm in charge of summoning her, so it feels less hollow
The way Larry moves the camera around his character as he talks is so fun to watch lmaoo
QoL stuff for MCH:
Airanchor->aoe
Autocrossbow->give recharges like the single target
Wildfire->aoe
Flamethrower-> while the Bioblaster-dot is on the target the damage of flamethrower is doubled
Queen->aoe
How does MCH PVP have better AOE cause most of this list is literally in PVP MCH. My only suggestion difference is Flamethrower is reworked to a placeable Flame Turret sharing resources with Queen so you have to decide which you need
@@iaxacs3801
That's a really good idea!
@@iaxacs3801just give me the pvp LB as a normal skill in pve. The sniper is so cool
Add to this, separate spread shot and scattergun for a 1-2.
Lol YoshiP flat out said "NO" to even raising the tomestone cap that hasn't been touched since mid ARR. Aint no chance we are going to be gearing 2 jobs. Lock in what you want to play in the 7.11 ult at 7.05 and pray.
Why do people care so much about being BiS on all jobs on day one? The game isn't hard.
@@Dharengothats not what they said? they said you have to lock in one job to gear for the upcoming ultimate, which sucks because its restrictive. and if you knew anything about ultimates at all its that going in with anything but bis on patch is trolling
@@Toastbr0t1337 Who said anything about ultimate? Also that's all the way in 7.1. And why would you bring two jobs into ultimate at the same time?
@@Dharengo the ... person you replied to? you bring two jobs for flexibility because nerfs and buffs happen, certain comps will be better or worse
@@Toastbr0t1337 Of all the reasons you could have cited you go for the unhealthy one?
for the gearing issue, why doesn't square just make it so you can double your weekly tomestone cap, with the restriction that you can only get one piece of gear for each type of job, it's not perfect, and some would just use it to get the chest/legs early for the higher gear, but it also allows for the freedom to split up your tomestones and gear two jobs at once, and then, just like with raid tiers, when the raid and tome cap restrictions fall off, so does the gear purchase limits.
2:25 I've been called out as part of this pipeline.
10:10 Ah yes, the continuation of the end-game gearing BS into DT. I swear everyone I get into the game is like "Why would I do that?" when I explain how end game gearing goes lmfao
Liking the 100 MCH (in single target anyway)
My wishlist:
1. Let wildfire crit/dh, and give it aoe damage
2. Queen aoe damage
3. Auto crossbow should refresh ogcds
Glad to see you posting again Larry, you are the reason for me to spend half a year of my life in this game.
5 videos in 1 months ? the legend has returned ?
I've been meaning to check if flameflower has any use what so ever for a few months now. Glad you answered that for me. 👍
If you get to a pull and your checks are on cd, you have no heat, barrel stabilizer on cd, bioblaster on cd,
Then you can use flamethrower
also, if you wanna drink something mid pull, flamethrower and do so, your still dpsing
The balance I've found is to run dungeons with SMN and raids/trails with MCH. Downtime between pulls means you can burn through summons quickly which feels fun (same on hunt trains) where as single target with MCH feels amazing firing guaranteed direct critical hits.
As a summoner main since 2013 who also adores machinist and has it as my second main, the summoner to machinist pipeline is indeed REAL!
It's so good to see you back Larry!
I'm glad the best FF content creator is making vids again
Man I've been loving the constant content!
I've actually noticed a lot more Machinists in Party finder for this Savage raid tier.
It’s super consistent damage provided your mch can press their buttons, as opposed to bard and dancer which a lot of their damage contribution relies on your party doing their rotation/burst correctly and not dying
I still am baffled as to why Wildfire doesn't have any AoE to it despite the fact you're applying a TIMEBOMB to an enemy that EXPLODES
Larry teaching me that Machinist is more than press button when available has done more for me than any of my friends.
They could make it spending tome/token give u credit to buy the equivalent item for another job either first purchases, the first few weeks or always!
On that note of gearing multiple jobs - all I want is a tome discount system, wherein if you buy a helmet with tomes then all other helmets of that gear set are like 50% off. After your first set of gear, any other set you want comes a lot faster.
I missed you so much man 😅 so glad to hear your relatable commentary. I am the SMN to MCH pipeline too 😂
Honestly SE needs to get over their ranged tax … like there’s no reason for ranges to deal less damage when even fights that have a lot of disengage for melees and full uptime for ranges, melees still pull a head
They should remove your nerf and just buff melee
Yeah it makes 0 sense, the one benefit they have is free uptime yet melees have to disengage for like 4 GCDs in an entire fight... And uptime strats make it easy for them. Buff the damage!
@@xeno942 they also don't get smacked in the face by the boss constantly. . . .
Also seeing that old HW footage, wow, what a flashback!
Give cast times for the tools and heavy/bind when using heatblast/blazing shot and a finisher to it in exchange for higher multipliers
that painful moment when you screw up your rotation and are somehow at 90 battery when air anchor comes off cooldown :(
I love that Dismantle is a wrench, because you are literally throwing a wrench in the enemy's plans. And also it's a tool that can be used to dismantle things but that's beside the point, really.
Me too. Love playing machinist. But loving the Bard who finally got a decent update after 5 years.
you get me larry. could MCH be doing more damage?ofcourse it could (please SE) but that's not the end be all for the job.
This is personally how I would fix it:
The noise I made when I unlocked the second Drill charge was strong and true to my soul.
damn yknow when Larry talks about fflogs in videos the balance is fucked LMAO
What if Flamethrower shared a cd with Air Anchor like with Drill and Bioblaster?
I know flamethrower is awesome looking, but I really do think there is a place for it in gameplay. No spells really want to channel in 14, which I honestly think could open up a ton of optimization. Might really make the classes feel different.
That's all. Thank you for attending my ted talk.
I stopped playing Machinist at lv60 because I was incredibly bored of it lol
I was Summoner up until Shadowbringers 5.1 when they put the pet abilities on the gcd. It felt so slow suddenly, so I went to Machinist for many button presses. Been enjoying both ever since.
I been asking for a basically mch since stb thank you larry
MCH lacking an AoE battery spender and Flamethrower being borderline vestigial post-rework are the main things that bug me about the job aside from its DPS being low despite the lack of party buffs.
Bishop Overload was really satisfying to use on big pulls back with its pre-ShB iteration.
Lel
“And I just triple weaved please don’t do what I do”
Good to see we’re back lol
I still hate that any movement causes it to immediately end. Like if you could move it would make it WAY more useful
