Tringalwadi fort was built in a chain of forts built on the ghats to watch over the Ghat route Thalghat-Gondaghat-Amboli Ghat coming from North Konkan to Nashik. Tringalwadi is an important watch fort in this line. Nashik was famous as a market since ancient times. To visit Tringalgad, first we have to reach Tringalwadi, a foothill village. The distance from Mumbai to Tringalwadi is 130 km and can be reached from Igatpuri on the Mumbai-Nashik highway, while from Nashik the distance is 50 km via Takeghoti. Tringalwadi village is known as Tringalwadi as it consists of three wadis namely Nishanwadi, Patrya wadi and Talya wadi. Talya wadi at the end of the village is the nearest footpath to the fort from this wadi.
    Tringalwadi Fort:
The fort is spread in the south-east and has two gates, east and west, and the west gate of the fort is known as the Konkan gate. At the end of these steps, there is a south-facing door carved into the rock on the right side, and a six-seven feet high Hanuman idol is carved on the square in front of the steps. Two sharhabs are carved in both the corners on the door, and the image of Chandrasurya is carved below them. The height of the fort is 3148 feet above the sea level and the area of the fort is spread over about 24 acres. 20 to 25 people can easily stay in the big cave carved in the rock. Kalsubai to the east and Harihar and Basgad forts to the north can be seen from the north of the temple. From the top you can see the entire region like Tringalwadi reservoir, Igatpuri, Vaitrana Khore, Trimbakrang, Kavanai, Mordhan, Alang, Kulang in the south. The gate of the fort at this place has completely collapsed and only the fortifications remain. While descending the steps carved into the stone of the fort, a small cave carved into the stone can be seen on the right side. One such cave can be seen carved on the front side after descending the stairs. It takes 2 hours to visit the entire fort.
    History:
Based on the Jain caves at the base of the fort, this fort may have been built around the 10th century. Tringalgarh is mentioned in the poem Parnal-Parvat-Grahanakhyan by the poet Jairam Pindye. It is not known when this fort came under the control of the Marathas, but Moropant Pingale may have brought this fort under Swaraj while capturing the Nashik province. In 1688, the Mughals captured this fort from the Marathas. The siege of Tringalwadi gad is mentioned in a letter sent by Matabbar Khan to Aurangzeb. It is recorded that Karnaji Shinde conquered Tringalwadi Fort on 20th April 1744 during the reign of Bajirao Peshwa the elder. After capturing Tringalgad in 1818, Captain Briggs destroyed the fort by firing guns and laying mines.
