i like how you show that this wasn't so smooth and you ran into some trouble. thats how things go in real life. a lot of youtube videos make things look super easy, but really they are kind of tricky.
PERFECT …. THE HUNDLE PULLER TOOL WORKED PERFECT FOR THE BIG ISSUE OF SHOWER HANDLERS BEING STICKED STRONGLY DUE TO CORROSION BUILDED UP ,, MANY THANKS 🙏 FOR YOUR ADVICE 🙏
Good informative vid! A Couple things ... If you have hit max tension with a puller, try a sharp rap on the end of it with a hammer,,, Often times the shock will help to bust it loose... Another tool you should try out for screws that won't come is a by-hand impact driver... Easy to find at any tool store, simple to understand. They work a treat.
I had the same Home Depot puller, Mine self destructed. Don't know if the + handles have been off in 70 years. Well the valves leak, the tile has leaked for more than the 24 years we have been here. Have a contractor rip out the adjacent tub and install a new walk in shower stall. I will convert the 32" x 32" shower into a closet. New vanity but keep the 1950 PINK and GRAY tile where possible. The pink toilet got replaced the first year we lived here. Didn't mind the pink but the low round bowl had to go. Thanks for video (O - I did try penetrating oil)
Brian. This was the first video of yours I've watched. Fantastic. (I subscribed) Important information, as I've got to do the same job in my home. I could hear the relief in your voice when the extractor worked. Been there! Congrats
Wow, thank you for this. I have some handles that are stuck on like this, and that tool, and PB Blaster is exactly what I need. The only real problem I'm having now is finding the stem repair kit for my stems. I'm not 100% sure, but I think they're Sayco stems. If I'm planning to replace the entire stem do I HAVE to have the same ones as the ones in now? I'd LOVE to upgrade to those new cartridge based systems. Thank you again!
For suspect frozen screws, dip & dress the screwdriver head in valve grrinding compound before even trying to remove the screw to stop the driver tip from slipping in the screws slots. I use coarse grit valve grinding compound as the coarse grit bites into the screws metal slots better.
i got the same exact problem and the same handles and brand name but Unfortunally the screw was too old and rusty and it broke. I had to pay the services of a plumber. but that is the perfect way to do that job.
If it's price Pfitzer I buy the new valve and trim kit grab the old handles with my pump pliers and break them off take the stems and seats put of new valve replacement stems and seats install new trim junk valve body, cheaper than buying all the parts individually. You did a great job though more patience than me lol
I have heard the same thing aobout Liqued Wrench maybe being the best, anyway wonder if you had sprayed some blaser in from the back of the knobs, might have made them come off easier? BTW nice vid
I don’t know if you have a video on valve stems, but I recently changed all 3 but my converter is not switching from tub to shower. Don’t know what I could have done wrong.
fastest way to remove old cartridges is a hot air gun, I use a blow torch for 5-10 seconds , then a lil wiggle pull with vice grips and bam !! slides out fast keep a lil spray bottle to spray and cool afterwards
My faucet handles were plastic and the puller kept slipping off, no matter how hard I tried to keep the arms in position. Simple solution was a small mastercraft clamp. Kept the arms in place and allowed both my hands to be available to work the puller.
I have a plyrich and I cant find anything similar .I broke the handle. Water wouldn't turn off so I used broken stem to turn off water. How do you fix this? I don't know plumbing at all so I'm assuming it's the stem for the handle broke off from wall? Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
Another option if the handle puller isn't working. Use a torch and heat up the handle. The metal expanding will help the puller pop the handle off. (Careful Wear Gloves)
I have used Liquid Wrench and found it to be almost miraculous and light years ahead of other penetrants such as WD40; a review showed it to be superior to the most well known ones... just another option.
Sweet video Brian thanks for the great information, that was pain in the behind getting that screw out and the handles off. Take care and I hope you and your family have a great weekend 👍
Another good video. Better...when this is planned fix.. let spray work 2-3hours: obvious...but makes life 1/2 the work. Go "take care of spouse"...finish the job...spouse will want another round!
The left claw on my puller keeps coming loose and the claws on the puller are starting to bend. Still can't get my shower faucet handle off, in fact it feel like it has hardly loosened at all. Any tips to get that thing off? Removing the screw was easy.
I know. I had the same issue. Penetrating oil. I used PB Blaster. Shoot the hole. Give it a few minutes then try again. when you put it back together use vaseline or plumbers grease on those spines so it won't get stuck again.
Nothing is working. I'm at my wits end. I have the exact same issue. I even went out and bought the extractor (GrabIt). I may as well have been spitting in the wind. What do you do when nothing is working? I don't want to damage the pipes the handle is attached to. I need to replace the shower wall which I cannot do with the handle still attached. It was only installed 3 months ago. It shoyuldn;t be a build up issue. The other one came off lickety split. I tried drilling through it like you did. It won't drill through. My drill bit just spun and spun and never penetrated the screw. At this point I'm becoming scared of burning up my drill.
@@ThatFixItGuy Here's a great review video of the product: ruclips.net/video/lMvO1Z3UGy8/видео.html Also, some comments suggested that automotive valve grinding compound will do the same thing.
Screws came out, but the remover tool bent and faucet handle still stuck. (Saw another comment that advised using channel locks slowly wiggling back and forth and that worked with the faucet eventually pulling off with channel locks. Go figure)
What's the best way to get a single handle off ,if the nut is corroded and won't turn...the only way I can think is to destroy it, a torch will ruin it, a wrench will break it. WD-40 on the nut won't work this time
I was about to go get the tool and watched one more video. ruclips.net/video/e2MFrYqKIiI/видео.htmlsi=TaTuQptRRuwDvoOf. Fireplace tongs and a hammer worked too. Both of you saved the day.
I want to fight the guy who made those handle extractors. That is such a good tool idea that never fucking works for me. I work in a building and most of the handles are all the same. No meat on them for that tool
35 years plumbing. Thats a pp.3 handle. Replace it because unless you are really skilled. The seats will leak. Pb blaster rocks. But please dont screw your clients.

It amazes me that there is always a RUclips video out there that matches my EXACT situation! Thanks for the great video.

This girl is now ready to tackle the shower fix! Thanks!
Guys enthusiasm is contagious. No cursing not that we heard 😂

😊Thank you so much. I'm telling you your ad was so helpful. I purchased a puller and it came right off. So thanks again.
Exactly what I needed! I am glad, for me at least, that you have extra trouble because that was where I learned what I needed. Thank you sir!

I’m on the look out for a better puller. Sounds like you had a cool old bathroom.
Easy-out to the rescue. Glad it worked out for you... I have, maybe, a 50-50 success rate with them. But I love my left-handed drill bits!
Me too. I was so glad it worked. Easy outs this small always seem to break.

What if the spindle doesn't have a screw hole? Should i drill a hole into the spindle equal to the pin length?
Thanks in advance👋

That is actually a great idea. Will have to put a small can on the truck to use when a bit is caming out when trying to remove a screw.

Thanks very much for the helpful video. I think im going to need some CLR to pop the knobs on my shower...
Another job well done! Have an awesome weekend Brian! 👍
Thank you Richard. Hope you have a great weekend as well.
How do you get a handle off if you have a stripped screw? My screw is stripped. I've tried an extractor but it didn't work.
A little Anti-Seize Lubricant on all the parts will make the next seal replacement simple.
That is exactly my current problem. Screw after several attempts is stripped. So, now need to pick up a spiral screw extractor.
Use silicone grease when you reassemble for easier removal later.
For sure. I did apply valve grease. I have a video that will come at some point
I have heard the same thing aobout Liqued Wrench maybe being the best, anyway wonder if you had sprayed some blaser in from the back of the knobs, might have made them come off easier? BTW nice vid

wrong DIVERTER in the center location? Hot or cold STEM will not function in center location.
Does it work when the screw is round out?
PB blasters is a champ but Harbor Freight saved the day!

When your take the screws out of knobs should it be on or off?
I don’t think it matters whether it’s on or off
with screw extractors i drill the biggest hole that allows , the bigger the hole drilled the far easier it comes out

The extractor pin that goes into the valve end, really ruins the valve threads for the screw . Now i have to replace the valve also.😢

Should have put plumbers grease on to prevent it happening again.
1 real question... why are you messing with handels? Was there a leak?
The diverter is getting rebuilt and she wanted the handles changed.
Wrect that handle. Replace it! Delta baby
I did not want to get into that helping out a friend. Would have told her to call a buddy with a business.
Using a wrench on a plastic handle wrecks the handle. If you are okay with a chewed up handle go ahead.
These are metal handles.
Should have added a dab of anti-seize.
