Damn... you've just described my days going by watching endlessly Ibanez catalogs. I have all of them from the early 90s. You can't imagine the joy when I've discovered the catalog archive on line from Ibanez Germany. This is a must buy item.

I was sun burned to a crisp and sweating buckets in the late 70’s trudging through muddy corn and bean fields to earn enough money for my first guitar. The catalogs and magazines kept the gear dreams alive! Today it’s RUclips vids, including HP’s reviews, that keep my modern gear goals alive! Thanks for the memories HP!
Excellent that fans can obtain this book! Thank you Henning. Ibanez should make a volume 2 for the later models history after the demise of the original author of this book. I always went to the pages with Steve Vai's guitars on them and so the love affair with those guitars began... and a stack of prestige cases followed with various JEM, UV and RGs lurking inside them. Wonderful creations each and every one
I remember that exact catalog. I also remember saving up for that JEM I couldn't stop drooling over. I bought it when I was 17 :). Not the cheap ones either.. I went with the Jem7VWH 😁. STILL have it almost 30 years later. It looks brand new thanks to the UV resistant white paint.
I got a few Ibanez catalogues for free actually from the local guitar store when I was a young teen in 2010(sadly they closed in 2014) and had just barely started learning guitar. I'd spent so much time looking through them! It was so cool to see Barry Stock of Three Days Grace being featured for an ARZ model if memory serves. At least a "single cut" model. I was OBSESSED with that band back then! I might pick up this big hunk of paper to look through every once in a while
When I first started playing guitar I had an Ibanez Destroyer. I think it was an Adrian Smith signature model It was candy apple red. Kind of looks like an Explorer? I think you showed it and you called it something else? Then I got a Ibanez V! They don't make those anymore It was black with white pickups. Man I loved that guitar and I thought it had horrible pickups because whenever I played lead on it it sounded like shit lol. I think that was because I didn't know how to play lead lol That was in the '80s. The only thing I have from them now is a mini tube screamer and mini boost. The boost is fabulous I think it has 40 DB It's the most boost you can get that I've seen? Not a big fan boy their necks are a little too thin for me I like something a little bit bigger I really like Dean guitars now They're sort of like a cross between a Gibson and an Ibanez. I recently bought an AS93 Semi-Hollow. It is a thing of rare beauty: a real treasure to caress lovingly and cast a slow adoring eye over. Howbeit, it sounds kinda, 'M'eh' to me. It reminds me of my Orangewood Dreadnought: superbly made but I suspect it's solid (over?) construction hampers it's sound. But what do I know?
Man this takes me back! Some boys had pictures of models on their bedroom walls. I had pictures of models too......Ibanez models. My favourites from the catalogue got cut out and stuck on the walls as Guitar porn. Still an Ibanez fan to this day and they're still my brand of choice. I just add the locking tuners myself.....lol.
What page are the Talmans on, Henning? I finally reclaimed a '94 honeyburst last year, after many years without. I stupidly sold mine for a Taylor electric/acoustic. Dumb, dumb, dumb. One of the worst things I've ever done. :D
Ibanez is among the most versatile guitar brands: They appeal to a good bunch of 'boomer'-guitarists and have a history that may only come second to Gibson/Fender. Similar, they simply know how to get their guitars in young peoples bedrooms, too. Either by providing nice designs, good quality for the price or with hip tic toc signatures like the Ichi Niko and Tim Henson lines. Their guitars can be found in different genres from jazz over metal/core to all that new tippy tappy tictoc stuff. While not everything they do is great, I really appreciate the effort that the company puts in their lines. I'd love to see the book with the 20-year-gap closed somewhere in the future.
I’m an Ibanez fan from way back, I got my first one in 1980, so that makes me a little older than you, so every one of your sentiments is valid. I’m going to look for this book too, I hope Ibanez follows through and updates this treasure trove. Thanks for sharing, Henning!

Hmm around my house in so cal it was the carving catalog though I'm a big fan of cheep s type since I played one in the late 80s at a shop. I had tried the try to be Gibson types but those were like I can't afford a Gibson guitars

I miss desiring something that hard as when I was young. It seem like nothing excites me anymore. Maybe just some stability in this world will be nice.
Such a pity Ibanez only did half the job with the book man. They missed the mark. I wish theyd do a reissue of all of the previous guitar catalogues, that would be cool!

Confirmed Ibanez fanboy here, because Ed Wynne played an Ibanez Musician, and then he got a Jem... And Schofield played Ibanez. Anyone remember Westone Guitars, great Ibanez ripoffs. i always saw Westone as like the epiphone of Ibanez, even tho it was not a subsidiary

I wanted an Ibanez Destroyer when I was a kid, never got one. I got an Ibanez fretless Japan made four string bass when I was 18 or 20, still have it!
