When I was in Russia, I couldn´t understand a single thing because I knew a lot of grammar and not enough vocabulary. Vocabulary is the key. Try to learn both, but put 70% of your time on vocabulary. Grammar will come naturally.
I used to think that I'd like to be a mind reader. Then I shifted to having text bubbles above my head (link comic books. graphic novels) showing my thoughts to others. Now it would be to give a feast at places I traveled to without anyone having to work to present all the food nor having to clean anything up afterward. Just sit, eat, converse, sing, and be merry. FeastMan! That's what I'd like now.

There is a russian channel which does this kind of thing. Makes random questions to russians on the streets and they have thousands of views. Considering you´re a foreigner, that would be even more interesting to see their reaction.

@Micheal Hi mate, thanks for the kind words. Vocabulary is good but the grammar rules are important. My grammar is appalling. I literally don’t know the rules and if I say stuff correctly it’s just because I’ve heard it said that way. I’d suggest getting a course and sticking to it. Plus there are Facebook groups like. Moscow expats and expats in Russia and Moscow language exchange. Join these groups and make a post saying that you are willing to teach somebody your native language, in exchange for them teaching you Russian. I see these posts there all the time. Also get on vk.com and make Russian friends, I have a video on how to make Russian friends and you can use the advice there. To answer your question, I think both are important. Accent too! I speak with an English accent, but I know foreigners who actually sound Russian!

I think if I had applied the same length and intensity into another language like Spanish I would be a lot further. Of course, Russian is complex but so much positives once I get to a stage where I can confidently speak without much stutter. I did pay for 8 private lessons with a Ukrainian teacher and learnt the basics of grammar. Now I tend to watch many videos on RUclips. Channels are Be fluent in Russian, yours!, and some other channels like cool vision. I have watched Bald and bankrupt too.

@@SamsRussianAdventures I think you give way too long titles to your videos. Try things like "asking russians..." instead of "Englishman Speaking Russian With Strangers". People are usually more interested in what russians think than in the fact that a Englishman speaks russian.
Your videos´ titles are usually too long. B&B usually use short ones. Write whatever you want in the description and leave the title as short as you can (but still giving the information people need).
@@experience5988 honestly, youtube likes longer titles, more keywords. But with Russia related keywords it’s hit and miss because none of them have a high search volume. It’s down to clickability, thumbnails, retention time and how many views the video receives in the first 24 hours. Look at the channel Yeah Russia for example. Not much in the way of excitement, keywords are not popular. She just her video picked up by related videos after a bald and bankrupt video and she hit 50,000 subscribers in a week. Now she can add any titles she wants because she is guaranteed views.
