Today I'm sharing this really cool way to use yarn to pay homage to the books you've read. And I don't know why I kept using the phrase "keeping tracks". What a goober. 😘
So much more appealing than the stress of a temperature blanket. My adult son just wandered by as you were sharing this idea. His comment 'so cool'. Thanks for the inspiration ❤
That is such a fun idea. It’s funny that you mentioned temperature blankets, because those are exactly what came to my mind. I also think it would be fun to design knit squares. I love your idea of mounting granny squares on the wall too.😊
Oh, this is a great fun idea. I crochet, but TLYarns has an amazing granny square tutorial on RUclips. I can see making a blanket/throw ,maybe a pillow for your comfy place you read in, a Jethro Cardigan to cuddle up in to read, oh my the flood gates are open 😮
Great idea. Granny squares are so versatile - blankets of course, pillow covers, totes, scarves ...and there are many variations of granny squares plus triangles and hexagons.
@ I didn’t know there was a 2nd one! I really enjoyed the 1st and passed it on. I watch the Good Books podcast and love the interaction with you and Brandon. I have read quite a few if your suggestions- all the Bardugo books, JMMiro, currently on Bringer of Dust, already read Night Circus. Loved that one. The 2nd book was just ok for me. Keep up the great work on both podcasts, kudos!!
As someone who does a lot of comfort rereads I think you might be able to do something really cool and temperature-y with this to see how much you hang out in a given book/world. I also wonder if you could do something like this with like a bee keepers quilt if you are like me and can crochet but really really don’t want to. FWIW you actually can also knit granny squares. Someone taught me and I promptly forgot how because not my jam.
I think this is a great idea, love it actually. You can extend it too patterns as well depending on the number of colors in the cover. Doesn't have to be complicated but it can be as detailed as the creator wants to make it. This is an awesome idea, thank you
Ok I love this and am super tempted to give it a try! Also there are definitely a few patterns out there for granny square cardigans which omg book themed granny square reading cardi?! Amazing
I’m pretty new to your knitting channel as I REALLY want to learn to knit. I just made my first hat which is not good (gaps/weird bulge? - not sure what the heck I did). Anyway, hoping to learn from you. Also watching your book channel as an avid reader. You guys are fun to watch and I think I will try Night Circus. Last but not least, I LOVE how you have decorated your “office.” Beautiful!
Thanks for your book recommendations. I just finished Unusual Monsters and thoroughly enjoyed it! It appears we have similar taste in reading. I have read the Golem and the Jinni as well as The Hacienda. I will check out your husband's channel for my next read.
Your Granny square is cool. I read The Golem and the Jinni, so long ago and it was very good. I to am following your book channel to. I keep track of my books in Goodreads
There are lots of modular knitting patterns that could be used as well. Like the Questionable Blends Blanket by Craft Me Happy or the Pirouette Shawl by Purl Soho.
I LOVE this idea! What a great way to combine my love of fiber art with my reading. I journal my reads already, but this is a whole new dimension of fun! I wonder if the squares will show a pattern in the colors of the books I am attracted to? I'm very keen to find out. Thank you for sharing. 😊
I’d be interested to see how someone’s favorite book genre is translated into the color palate of their squares. Cover art does seem to vary based on the type of books being read.
I think this is a terrific idea. But, i have a comment that i hope is not taken as criticism. I realize that we often associate a book by its cover, much like we do with album covers. i think, in most case, however, that the cover is the vision of a second creative mind. Sadly, these great graphic designers/artists of book covers often go unmentioned.
OMG Tayler, looking at all those ends to weave in gave me the heebee jeebees. You really need this tutorial. ruclips.net/video/toCk0jHlqt0/видео.htmlsi=j2sG0brYSWQc1Asi I made about 50 granny squares for my sister to make Xmas Trees and Xmas stockings and only had 1 tail to sew in per square. 😊❤

lol!
I think granny squares are a fantastic idea! Quick and easy to make, and usefu!
I saw a knitter make a (crochet) vest out of granny squares. I’ve seen patterns for sweaters.
Granny square book bag!
This would make a great idea for a variation of the temperature blanket trend.
Right?! My thoughts exactly. ❤️
That gives me another idea: use covers of favourite books to select colour schemes for knitted garments.
Yes!

Very fun idea!! Can’t wait to see the blanket with the granny squares!
I don't know how to crochet but I shared this link with my daughter who is a crocheter (?). Thanks for sharing!

I love this as an alternative to the temperature blanket! Thanks for sharing ❤❤❤
Isn’t it cool?? You’re very welcome Star.
This is a fantastic idea!!! The Night Circus is one of my favs. Enjoy
I loved the Golum book!
I read the Golem and the Jinn and think the granny square idea is pretty cool!
How did you like the book?? I’m excited to start the second one.

I'm in...great idea!!!!Had I known this years ago, I would have crochet a King size blanket!
What a great idea! I may have to start this tonight...
That's a great idea!!!
I use Goodreads to record all the books that I’ve read but this is a great idea to use all my scraps and track the books.
I love the idea .
Great idea! Btw, The Seven Husbands is a great book I read this summer, and made my sis read it too!
There are lots of ideas to make them into book covers as well.

Pillows are great and too
Right?! I think it would be so cool to see it extended to patterns. Glad you enjoyed this!
Good idea!

I’m on this bandwagon already. One book and one square done and catalogued. 😊

Thanks for sharing Taylor. With a little sewing know how, how about a lined granny square project bag. 😉

Make a book bag! 😊

Fun…..what an awesome idea! Maybe a table runner, a lined bag or granny square slippers (by Naztazia on Ravelry).
❤❤❤
If sb doesn't want to crochet, it would be possible to make a mitered square and just use 3-4 colours per square. 😊
Your first granny square goes well with every book you've shown so far...lol. hmmmm

I have often wonder who are the designers of book covers. There are so many book covers that are so stunning.
