GIVEAWAY - I'm giving away Nutty! For a chance to win, leave a comment on this video and tell me what you would spin with a support spindle. The winner will be chosen on January 26, 2025. Rules and details are in the video description. Good luck!
This video was FULL of great information! Thank you!!! If I am the lucky winner, I'd use the spindle for raw silk fluff. I'll be better able to spin a thin but strong fiber using a supported spindle. Thanks again for your content!
I love everything you touch as it seems to spin into gold🤗 I am a new spinner, and i must admit, “Nutty” perfectly describes me, from the moment you walk into my home, you will see a childhood painting of a squirrel holding an acorn and inscribed inside the acorn says, “Welcome to the NutHouse”🤗🤓 A bit nutty is always full of life🙃 Thank you for yet another amazing video!🫶
You’re an amazing teacher! I had become frustrated with Support spindling, an uncoordinated hot mess express🤣. Now, thanks to your video, I’m giving it another go and finding some success. Thank you so much! A project I would make a supported spindle would be a small agurami dog for my brother-in-law. He’s battling cancer. And while he’s staying with us, he has taken to loving my dog. So, I’d make a dog for his own.
I’ve been support spindle spinning for around a year now, but was firmly in the park and draft zone with no idea how to become more fluid. Your video now has me flirting with more continuous spinning. Thank you!// I will say when I started the very beginning stage was so hard. Going from an empty spindle and a handful of floof to a spin in progress took me literal months. I bet true beginners would really benefit from a tutorial about how to get started
This is really helpful. I’ve struggled with what it looks like to get set up and started in a support spindle. I can’t find any detailed instructions and video.
OOO OOO OOOO...I want the wood blocks. I will have to see what I have to make those with...hmmmmm scraps...in my barn...oh yes. yay! I love youtube pause.
I have only used top whorl spindles up to now, and what I've found is that I really enjoy woolen spinning. I would love to try a support spindle, but it always looks like magic when I see other spinners do it (I still need two hands to draft!). Thank you so much for this video! I feel like I could actually do a supported spin now!
I've been curious about support spindle spinning for a while. Your tutorial makes me feel like I could finally be brave and try it out. You were the 'coach' that took my drop spindle spinning to the next level. My neurodivergent brain wants to do a study of a fleece spun different ways on all different spinning tools, wheels, drop spindles of various shapes, supported spindles, singles, 2-ply and 3-ply, maybe even a 4-ply(something I've never done yet!)!
I still haven't tried spinning or gotten my first spindle yet. I'm trying to learn as much as I can first and your videos have been super helpful and informative! I think one like this would be really beginner friendly though. I also tend to be a bit clumsy and this seems like it would be pretty straightforward 😅 I'd love to be able to make my own yarn and then get to crochet with it or use it on a loom.
I’m so excited for new tutorials from you. They’re always so helpful, you effectively taught me not only to spin, but also that lumps are okay and everyone is always learning! Thank you for all you do for the fibre community ❤
I love that you made this video for beginners! Whenever I watch someone support spindling, they seem to move smoothly and with ease. I’ve tried it once and struggled, so I’ll have to use the tips and try again. I have a small batt that a friend processed and I think would spin well on a support spindle.
I've tried spinning once before with a drop spindle and it wasn't working for me but your videos have really made me want to learn more! So I think I'd spin yarn for socks 😊
Hi! Park and draft with a drop spindle is how I learned to spin and even though I can spin well with a wheel now, I still live spindle spinning. I am now a hockey mom and would love to practice efficient support spinning while I watch my daughter's games and attend practice. I would probably spin a yarn that I could turn into some gorgeous and cozy wrist warmers.
As I was watching your tutorial I was thinking of the fiber I do have. My daughter gave me a bump of 100% alpaca a few years back & I thought it would be perfect with this spindle.
I've used drop spindles and a double treadle spinning wheel before, but a supported spindle looks interesting! I'd probably spin enough to make a hat, possibly using a nailbinding technique and go from there.
I have some cute purple wool top (I think its Romney?) that I would like to spin into an art yarn. It's going to have some slubs in it because I'm not that good with a drop spindle yet. I'm hoping a spindle like Nutty would help me coordinate my hands better... This was a great video. Thanks for showing the different spindles!
Lovely spinning-I've been trying to learn supported spinning via making my own, and it seriously felt like you were talking about my journey!! I'm excited to try using the support spindle for wilds fibers, like dogbane and milkweed, since it would give more control over the somewhat weaker fibers.
I am a complete and udder newbie. I have tried a bit of spindle spinning(one of the few things I could do post-op), hoping to get a spinning wheel and would love, love, love to try a supported spindle!
This was such an excellent tutorial! So ready for the new tutorials you’re bringing out. A supported spindle would be a fun and new experience 🙌🏻. I’d love to get to experience “Nutty”!
I've been spinning with a drop spindle for a while now and would love to try learning to spin with a supported spindle! It is so beautiful too! Real eye candy!❤🤩
Thank you for this tutorial! I've been really curious about how support spindles work. I'd love to use a support spindle to make some single ply yarns!
I have been spinning for 2 weekend now thanks to your great videos and i love it. I would love to try a supported spindle as I am spinning with a drop spindle right now. My dream is to make enough yarn to knit something for myself.
I would add this spindle to the dropspindles and spinning wheel that a church friend kindly gave me. Learning to spin on both, my drafting isn't always even, but I would love to crochet the finished yarn into a hat or scarf.
Thank you so much for taking the time to do this through video. I have spun with drop spindles and still use them on occasion. I have tried, very unsuccessfully, to use a support spindle. After watching this I feel prepared to give it a whirl again 😊
Drop spindles intimidate me but supported spindling looks so much more in sync with me! I would love to get a chance to try it. I have some BFL I'd love to try spinning with it, and maybe make a shawl out of it!
I've been spinning with drop spindles for a while now, and just recently got a spinning wheel! But i've never had the chance to try suported spinning, and i would love to try it with some handdyed wool that my mom got me for christmas
I've been looking at supported spindles for a while now. I'd love to learn to use one, using some delicious fiber called christmas lights, gifted to me by a spinner friend. By the way thank you for this channel, it is very inspiring.
I would spin a variety of fibers to find out which fiber was fun to spin. It would probably be combed top, but I'd try rolags, too. Cotton would probably be the first fiber I'd try.
Thank you for making this video. I’ve gotten pretty good at spinning with a drop spindle but would love to try a supported spindle. What I would spin with it is some fluffy woolen spun yarn for a warm scarf.
I love drop spindles, my 2025 goal is get as productive with my supported spindle. I have some merino silk in greens that I love to use I definitely want to spin that .❤
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I have used a drop spindle but I haven’t tried a supported one. I think I could try one now. Not sure what project I would spin yet. I need to get some more fiber. 😊
I love this tutorial and the timing was great! I just made a couple of spindles last week, inspired by your diy spindle videos. I made some drop spindles but also a couple of supported spindles and matching bowls. For the whorls I used polymer clay and I used some bamboo double pointed needles for the spindle sticks. Even though I’m really happy with my home made supported spindles, I would still love to win a professionally made one of course! 😊 I would probably make some rolags with my new blending board to get better at long draw supported spinning.
I have bags and bags of alpaca that I have been working through, one day I would love to spin some wool. Supported spindles are relatively new to me and Id love to start spinning for making my own clothing apparel - ambitious? Yes! 😂
I was so surprised and glad when I seen you had a support spindle tutorial video so soon after you mentioned it in your vlogmas video… I’m always looking for some … I’ve been intrigued with them ever since you made the diy ones out of clay (I made a few) …. I seen your vlogmas video when you opened up your Kravelli package and thought they were beautiful … tried to order one … but when they went to send it they found a flaw so they didn’t send …. I admired that … so I am anxiously awaiting the sold out sign to be taken away .. Ive been trolling their website for a few weeks now … thank you for the video!
What amazing timing for this video! I was just looking through your backlog for this very thing. I have some amazing local-to-me floof from Palouse Yarn Company that is a blend of Cormo and Targhee that I really want to spin up on a supported spindle. (I'm currently living in our travel trailer while our house is being built, so no room for my spinning wheel!) But really, that's a warmup, because I'm getting sheep in 2026... :)
Ooooooh I would love Nutty! I would use a supported spindle to spin silk embroidery thread. I’m Métis (one of the 3 Indigenous nations recognized in the Canadian constitution) and practice traditional Métis beading and some embroidery. I like to sign my pieces with hand dyed and hand spun embroidery thread. A supported spindle seems like the perfect way for me to get enough twist to make the thread robust enough to be pulled in and out of fabric. It also makes a perfect amount of thread for a project! ❤❤❤❤
I'd make a cowl I think - I'm still a relatively new spinner and never tried support spinning so smaller projects feel more approachable (one day I will spin enough for a cardigan!). Love your videos - I've learnt so much!
Thank you for a very informative and helpful video. I have been spinning for a few years, on a wheel and a drop spindle, but only recently tried a supported spindle and I love it! Having moved to Wales in 2023, I purchased several different fibres from different welsh breeds, and I want to try spinning them on my supported spindle now.
Really great tutorial Evie! I struggle with spindle spinning and your explanations were super helpful. I have a fleece that I want to process in the spring and would love to spindle spin the wool from that!
I was so excited to see this video come out. I've been wanting to work on my supported spindle spinning skills this year so this is very timely. I just found a forgotten bag of alpaca fleece that I think would be great for spinning on the Kravelli Spindle.
72 yards = almost 66 meters And thank you so so mucht for that tutorial. I have a supported spindle, but ended up usng it as a drop spindle and although my yarn is really thin (I aim for thin) and pretty consistent, I couldn't figure out any other way than park and draft
I'm so glad you did this video. supported spindles are the area of spinning i've struggled the most with. i really want to learn how to use them better... but i've been struggling with my own diy spindle and bowl and just feeling generally klutzy. i need 3 more hands. one of these days, i've got ambitions of spinning my precious stash of angora fiber on a supported spindle for a lace scarf.
Well that was really interesting, I really enjoyed watching the whole magical process of producing a beautiful yarn. I feel inspired to give it a go. Thanks for showing us how it's done.
dang I would love to learn in person from you. As to what I would spin with this, probably a horrible mess, as I"ve only spun once and that with a very cheap beginner drop spindle.
Thank you for all your tutorials, they are a labour of love, and I appreciate then a lot. I would like to spin yarn for socks, but I need a lot of training for that.
I've been wanting or desiring to create a blended yarn using some leftover and newer fibers for an experimental fun yarn to use is a future knit project. trying a support spindle would be kind of fun and make for a wonderful spinning experience
I've only just started my spinning journey so realistically what I'd spin with this spindle would be very wonky yarn. Some day though I hope to spin something my mom could use for a crochet project.
I am dying to learn how to support spindle. I’ll probably give some undyed corridale in my stash a go but ultimately I’d love to spin my own home grown fibres! ❤ thank you so much for the tutorial!!!
I have been hand carding a hog island sheep wool and would love to try it out on a supported spindle! The fibers range from medium length to very short, so spinning it on my wheel has been a bit of a challenge
I really love spinning thread for embroidery, so that's probably what I would do with a support spindle! This was such an informative tutorial, support spinning seems like magic to me!
I'm so glad this video came out when it did, I've been thinking of trying supported spinning next! I would love to try to spin some thread for my embroidery projects 🥰
Galina Khmeleva is coming to Utah in April and teaching a class on spinning gossamer yarn on supported spindles... on a Friday morning! Argh! Why do I have a job!? Whatever, I need to practice spinning regular yarn first 😅
Spinning with a supported spindle is on my spinning wishlist. I have some 3d printed turkish spindle that I'll spin supported in the car or when watching TV. 😊
Thank you for this beautiful video! It's wonderfully presented. 💗 And I would use a supported spindle to spin the soft and fluffy llama fiber I have. I'm wanting to make a neck warmer out of some of it. 😊
Thank you for this! I was gifted a takhli spindle and have been attempting to spin cotton on it. It has not been going well, but I think some of your tips will help! I would love to experience a spindle like nutty and am working on creating a cheviot/alpaca blend batt to make a shawl for my sister!
I have never tried spindle spinning, and am itching to give it a go!! I would probably start with a small project, maybe a hat from some malabrigo fibre I just picked up 😊
I’m trying to ply my second ever length of yarn, and it’s so calming to watch someone who knows what they’re doing while I fumble about! 😂😂 My Hardworking Kate is currently two plastic boxes with a toy weighting them down… it seems to work! Thank you for another excellent how-to. I’ll be referring back to it many many times, I think. ❤
Thank you. You have given me the courage and information I need to try again with my Russian type support spindle. I will be spinning alpaca, so, your tutorial covered the process perfectly.
This is an awesome tutorial! I've only spun with a drop spindle before so if I'm lucky enough to get a support spindle this will be very helpful. I guess I would make a thank you gift for my cousin who got me a lazy Kate for Christmas (my name is Kate) and she got her mom a lazy Susan (guess what her name is😂)
This is the first video that has made me think maybe I could learn to use a support spindle (they've always baffled me before!) If I had a support spindle I'd spin a braid of corriedale/BFL/shetland I have in shades of lovely soft grey that I think will make a beautiful shawl one day.
I have a load of chocolate color alpaca fiber that I would love to spin with nutty. I have a little bit of experience with a drop spindle and a wheel but nutty would be my first supported spindle style. Thank you for all the information, education and spinning content you create. You have been so helpful in my spinning journey
Thank you for this video. I have been struggling with my support spindle. I will try your techniques and maybe I can spin some yarn to do accents on fingerless gloves.
Great tutorial video (as usual :D )! If I'm lucky enough to win Nutty, I would definitely use her to demonstrate supported spinning in my historic spinning demonstrations, and I'd spin up some lovely cocoa alpaca fiber into yarn to knit into a nice lacy scarf (which would then join my other handspun knitted items for my display).
What a useful tutorial! I've appreciated how detailed and useful all of your tutorials have been, I got into soinning a few years ago out of curiosity and your channel has been absolutely amazing in helping me develop my skill! Curious to try out supported spinning one day, I definitely have some bags of mystery discounted fiber that I've been meaning to spin...
I would spin socks yarn with or alpaga or shetland fleeces friends offered me ❤ its been a long time now that i want to discover the supported spindle !
I recently inherited some fiber from my grandmother but I didnt have anything to spin it with. If I were to get a support spindle, I would use it to spin up some of that fiber that I've been dying to use.
I would try spinning sock yarn. I've read the it must be very thin with extra twist to make the yarn strong. I think I'd be able to do that better on a supported spindle than a drop spindle. Would love to try anyway 😉😉
I have never spun on a spindle before but would love to give it a go and make a shawl out small scarf to start and then a larger project like a sweater. Thank you so much for your very informative guide. I look forward to giving this a go.
Thanks for this tutorial! I love my Turkish Spindle, but have also been interested in the supported spindle for a bit now. I have some corriedale that I'd be curious to spin with it!
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I've been interested in support spindle spinning, but just haven't had the courage to dive in yet. I'd definitely try spinning the yak fiber I was gifted for my birthday with Nutty. Fancy fiber for a fancy spindle. 😊
GIVEAWAY - I'm giving away Nutty! For a chance to win, leave a comment on this video and tell me what you would spin with a support spindle. The winner will be chosen on January 26, 2025. Rules and details are in the video description. Good luck!
I love your videos!!! I would spin Shetland from my flock of sheep with this gorgeous spindle.
I would try make something simple because it will be the first thing that I make.
Good comment
You are right@@JenniferStewart-w6w
My daughter is learning to card and spin.. this would be a great gift for her. She is cleaning and carding llama fiber right now!!! Good luck everyone

I would spin some purple dyed wool that I have had for ages and finally make some more progress on my first spinning project.
I have some cute purple wool top (I think its Romney?) that I would like to spin into an art yarn. It's going to have some slubs in it because I'm not that good with a drop spindle yet. This was such an excellent tutorial! So ready for the new tutorials you’re bringing out.
A supported spindle would be a fun and new experience 🙌🏻. I’d love to get to experience “Nutty”!
I don’t know what I would try to make but I would love to learn to support spindle.

I have been hand carding a hog island sheep wool and would love to try it out on a supported spindle! The fibers range from medium length to very short, so spinning it on my wheel has been a bit of a challenge
I have never spun on a supported spindle, but I am so eager to try! I would try to spin something wildly colorful and fun as my first spin.
I really love spinning thread for embroidery, so that's probably what I would do with a support spindle! This was such an informative tutorial, support spinning seems like magic to me!
I’m a new spinner but I would love to try merino/silk on a supported spindle. I have been able to spin that successfully on a drop spindle!
I'm so glad this video came out when it did, I've been thinking of trying supported spinning next! I would love to try to spin some thread for my embroidery projects 🥰
I would spin some Angora! Maybe for a small cozy scarf 🐰
I would spin some nice, fine yarn for a shawl! Thank you for the video.
I would spin yarn to make some washcloths. I am also a soapmaker and love making washcloths to go with the soaps.
❤
I have never tried spindle spinning, and am itching to give it a go!! I would probably start with a small project, maybe a hat from some malabrigo fibre I just picked up 😊
I’m trying to ply my second ever length of yarn, and it’s so calming to watch someone who knows what they’re doing while I fumble about! 😂😂
My Hardworking Kate is currently two plastic boxes with a toy weighting them down… it seems to work!
Thank you for another excellent how-to. I’ll be referring back to it many many times, I think. ❤
Thank you. You have given me the courage and information I need to try again with my Russian type support spindle. I will be spinning alpaca, so, your tutorial covered the process perfectly.
I would make yarn for my mom with this spindle. She crochets so my goal this year is to make her some yarn :)
❤
I love support spindling! I’d have a go at doing some sock yarn I think 😊
Would love to win the spindle. Thanks for the helpful video!
This is an awesome tutorial! I've only spun with a drop spindle before so if I'm lucky enough to get a support spindle this will be very helpful. I guess I would make a thank you gift for my cousin who got me a lazy Kate for Christmas (my name is Kate) and she got her mom a lazy Susan (guess what her name is😂)
Wow! I would spin some Faroe Island combed top for sure!😊
This is the first video that has made me think maybe I could learn to use a support spindle (they've always baffled me before!)
If I had a support spindle I'd spin a braid of corriedale/BFL/shetland I have in shades of lovely soft grey that I think will make a beautiful shawl one day.
I have a fleece from a California red sheep that I hand carded last spring and would love to spin some on a supported spindle.
I'd like to spin some hand processed Alpaca and angora rabbit (long staple) on a supported spindel. Very helpful video.
❤
I would spin socks yarn with or alpaga or shetland fleeces friends offered me ❤ its been a long time now that i want to discover the supported spindle !
I recently inherited some fiber from my grandmother but I didnt have anything to spin it with. If I were to get a support spindle, I would use it to spin up some of that fiber that I've been dying to use.
I would try spinning sock yarn. I've read the it must be very thin with extra twist to make the yarn strong. I think I'd be able to do that better on a supported spindle than a drop spindle. Would love to try anyway 😉😉
I would love to spin silk merino blend with Nutty! Very helpful podcast! Thank you ❤
I have never spun on a spindle before but would love to give it a go and make a shawl out small scarf to start and then a larger project like a sweater.
I've got some pure angora I'd love to try spinning with a support spindle.
