  • Turkey Hunting Colorado is unlike anywhere else in the country. The Merriam's Turkey that live at high elevation in the Rocky Mountains will challenge you. The main trick is finding them which is why I prefer to wait until later in the season to hunt them. They are normally more fired up and are more prone to gobbling mid-day.
Just hours before this hunt with my wife I tagged out on a nice Tom mid-day. The Toms were gobbling like crazy when the sun would peak out in-between the storms and clouds. You can find a link to that video below. While I was watching out kids and the camper Dani heard a gobble across the river. When we went to investigate we found three jakes and this nice Tom. We quickly threw some camo and and slipped into the river bottom to get setup.
I threw out a Dave Smith feeder hen and a full strut Tom decoy and we got tucked in against the base of a tree. I softly yelped and the Tom gobbled back immediately. I knew right away in was over. A couple more light calls and the Tom was in our laps. Dani shot him at 22 yards with the single shot .410 and the rest is history. From when we left the truck to when he was down was roughly 7 min. This was one of the fastest turkey hunts I've been on. It reminded of this LIVE hunt I did a few years back with my buddy Devin in Nebraska: • LIVE TURKEY HUNT Gobbl...
It seems like the hunts where you can't go wrong are always mid-day or afternoons. What is crazy is I got two of them in one day!
Next on the 2024 turkey tour is Nebraska and then South Dakota and Kansas. Stay tuned, I'll drop videos to those hunts below as I post them up!
As I mentioned in this video Dani has had some incredible turkey hunts. Here is a link to all three of those hunts in case you want to check them out:

@@jamesshockley4311are you telling me in GA if you shoot a deer or turkey and it’s laying on the ground kicking about to expire and someone else comes and puts it out of its misery they get to tag it? I have a really hard time believing that…and if that is legally true you should really work with your legislature to follow to rest of the country and adopt the rule of first blood.

fortunately James is correct in all 50 states, if you tag out on turkey you as you accompany some else on their harvest and you are tagged out you can not posses a gun or even handle that weapon it’s the responsibility of the person who shot the bird to complete the harvest if it’s not completely expired. So since you completed the kill he is right that’s your bird. I like your videos and watch everyone

So you shot two birds in Colorado? Why not have your wife shoot again if needed. You were tagged out. Shooting that bird again for your wife is a game violation! Come on man. I normally like your videos but I’d take this down before you get a ticket, no party hunting in Colorado.

Since you were nice in your criticism and I believe you to be sincere I will respond. 1. There is absolutely nothing illegal about this. The bird was clearly dieing and sprawled out, unable to move. I simply put it out of its misery which I don’t not regret and would do 100 times over 2. research rule of first blood and honestly ask yourself if you would want me to follow your advice if this were opposite I.e what if I shot first and had her finish an already dead bird and had her put her tag on it….Everyone would loose their mind because that would be wrong. 3.As a guide for an outfitter you are encourage to do the same thing for your clients to avoid loosing game that will Parrish anyways and not be tagged if not recovered 4.I am not going to lie my wife was really shook up and has never had to deal with anything like this before so I took the most ethical route and finished an already dead bird. My hope is this didn’t ruin hunting for her as it was only her third hunt ever. I hope this better explains things and if you are an experienced hunter taking out a youth or novice you take the same actions I did :)
