Dude, don't take this the wrong way, but I love you right now!
Its over 90 degrees, and I only have so much time before my patience runs out.
I knew there was a logic behind it, but for some reason, I couldn't make it all the way there.
Turn in the direction of the fan!
    Yes!
    Brilliant!

Nice. Let me add that if you don't have a Freaking Giant Pipe Wrench, you can use a 10mm bolt (one from that pulley the fan is on) and put in the hole next to it, to lock it against the water pump that is behind it. Then you can take the fan/clutch off as he shows later.

So funny that people think getting a 36" pipe wrench is some astronomical feat . Surprise..if you want to work on a car easily..you will need to have tools God forbid spending 23.99 on a wrench to do the job when it'll cost you 650$ at a shop. Man up, build a tool collection

Chuck Norris doesn't need a huge pipe wrench. He removes the nut by hand.

Everybody is missing something here, if the nut has notch on it it is a reverse thread, the newer Hemi's are reverse thread so you turn the nut clockwise to remove the fan, if doesn"t have a notch it is normal thread and you remove the fan counter clockwise. look at the video of the newer Hemi"s VS older Hemi"s.

This is of course if the dealers apprentice didn't do it up with a wrench like they do the oil filter and there favourite impact gun your wheel nuts on, maybe even cross threaded for you.... "What a service"

pipe wrench would not work you need to clamp the water pump pulley with much more tension to keep it from moving.

I spent at least hours with the special pulley holder thingy. Absolutely useless. Used the pipe wrench and skinny wrench. 3 love taps with the hammer and it came off like butter. I had a small burr on the pulley surface. I little file action and alls well. 7.3l ford e450.

They make a proper tool for holding the water pump pulley. Pipe wrench not good. Leaves scaring on the smooth surface which can shorten the life of the serpentine belt.
