I first heard these guys going to soccer practice. A buddy was skating the school with his walkman and i asked who he was listening to. "Ill repute" he replied "Who?" "Ill repute".. "Fuck dude, just give me the headphones" was my reply The moment i put those headphones on i was in heavem "Yes! What kind of music is this?" "Punk...hardcore!" he said The door was opened. I knew what i was now into and had been looking for since seeing Bones Brigade Video Show... That was 1986. A few weeks later i took my allowance money and bought my first punk/hardcore album. That excitement has been with me to this day (2022) Thanks Erich for opening the door for me....it changed my life
Poetry emotion is what I believe in these words from my mouth feel like reality to me it my opinion is that OK with you the dividers that be that decide what is equal rather than separate good and bad for quality
If you’re stupid, you won’t understand this and that’s why the world is more negative and we have to put up with stupid shit but if you just admit to be honest, stupid shit wouldn’t happen and you wouldn’t be the devil in your thoughts like you promised to be equal with the supreme powers of equality frequently not all the time. I’d like to knock you out a minute or two just saw you don’t have your doubts about who you’re talking to this is my prayer be fearful but balance out your fairness because the joke is on you if you fuck with me in reality spirituallyfor humanity and so it is I’m a manifest not a magician
Went to highschool with these guys. Unfortunately,I was a metalhead in highschool and missed out on the punk scene. I hope John, Karl and the dudes are doing well. Hueneme High '82.
Yep right before my stint at Hueneme Then Forrest Remeber 2nd thoughts Dave jensen But grew up Hueneme Nard:) And Forrest when he played with them later Still yet to see the documentary
Something about Nardcore, it produced so many bands that played this type of hc punk ear candy that lifts some of the anger off and and fills your soul with energy. It was a fun and energetic scene, probably nothing like NY.
I was in the Air Force with the bass player Jim's sister Judy in 1983 and she turned me on to this album. I went from a Judas Priest fan to a nardcore fit instantly
Carl is also thee coolest, nicest dude. Met him when i stumbled across Ill Repute playing on KCSB. A few months later i got to see them at Moggs in Ventura with Walk Proud & Threatened Hope and he remembered me, chatted me up....very powerful interaction for a 14 yr old at his 1st out-of-town show.
Yeah, he preferred Bad Company covers w/ his brother and didn’t like hardcore until he realized how many girls were in the scene. Personally, I miss the danger associated with being a punk in the early 80’s and sending money across the country, or globe, in hopes of getting some fresh vinyl. Today’s scene has no clue how easy they have it. I probably wouldn’t find the same charm in it considering it’s not the ultra-counter-culture it was back then. Great post
I got the "Oxnard-Land Of No Toilets" 7" ep and this 12" dubbed on tape by a friend back in '91 or so. Both are awesome records and i still love em. I bet Ill Repute loved The FU's. You can clearly hear the influence on the title track and several other songs on this masterpiece.
+SpaminacanMK4 This guy has done more than his part. He is the singer of Lagwagon for pete's sake. Not to mention being a member of numerous other bands. Me first and the gimme gimmes etc. etc. Thanks Joey!
+Joey Cape I really can't believe that nobody here knows who you are. I have had a ton of fun at lagwagon shows. Got a tooth knocked out at an ill repute/good riddance show myself. Anyway, thanks for the good times!
Sonic fuel for so many backyard ramp sessions. One of the funnest live bands ever. Soundtrack of my youth, along with all the other Nardcore bands. Good times!
I was concieved between Oxnard and Port Hueneme in 1985. My mom was a Mexican immigrant living in La Coloniaa and my dad in the navy working at Port Hueneme during that time. I have always loved punk (I have "Rock-n-Roll" tattooed on my hand and of the CRASS symbol tattooed on my foot)d in my early 20s I was probably going to 2 punk shows a week in San Diego (I don't remember too much cause I was always black out wasted off of 40s and whisky.) But, Punk has been such a big influence in my life....
Still at it and ripping it up after all these years!! All hail the kings of NARDCORE!! Check out KNOW with former members of DR. Know if you like this.
First heard “Book and Its Cover” on KXLU’s Demolisten back in the 80s. They said it was submitted by a band called The Nards, so it took me forever to finally track it down to Ill Repute. Were they The Nards before they became Ill Repute? Either way, this song spoke to my heart and I never forgot it.
I still remember Timmy Yo (RIP) writing in Maximum Rock'n'Roll about that record: "... this is so fxckin ferocious that it makes you want to dive off the kitchen table".

I’m a retard and I’m dumb because I’m honest, but I feel for people that can be like me I promise

Here I am 35 years later, and this album still totally resonates.
Went to highschool with these guys. Unfortunately,I was a metalhead in highschool and missed out on the punk scene. I hope John, Karl and the dudes are doing well. Hueneme High '82.

One of my all time favorite punk bands and albums
One of the greatest hardcore albums of all time. Carl Valdez is without a doubt in the top 10 best hardcore drummers ever, or of any genre in general.
Ain’t that the truth. Oxnard dished out some of the most flawless wild fast shit that was as cool and funny as it was angry.

seeing them live i lost 3 three teeth 2 shoes and 1 beer. still pissed about the beer...
3 teeth damn. never been to a punk concert but I'm planning on going to one soon with one of my buddies, sounds fun.
If there ain't beer all over the floor, it ain't a show. You did your part!

This album was prevalent in Orange County, specifically Fountain valley High School circa 85. I still have this in vinyl out in the garage...

so un-cool. you should have ironically been going to metal shows and forcing them to circle pit to growly vocals and blast beats.
I still think Illrepute is the best hard core punk band of all time.
