- Catching Fresh Mackerel gutting and salting them then Hot Smoking them in a Whisky Barrel at my home village Boddam harbour Buchaness Aberdeenshire North East Scotland.

That was amazing.
I remember once on a fishing trip I got bored went to the bow of the boat and just started dropping my hook into a little school of Mackerel that were just biting onto the unbaited hook, so after that trip we ended up with a good few pounds of mackerel but the fish is normally so oily it is not very tasty to cook on its own so a friend of ours told us to smoke it, and it was the best smoked fish we ever had, I think it is because its oils make it not as tough as other smoked fish!
The best smoked fish I have ever seen. So fresh.. Straight from the sea. Freshly cooked oh soo delicious!

We call it Bokoms here in South Africa, although we normally use Herring as it can be easily caught in river mouths. Very fishy and very salty, not for everyone. In our social group it is pretty much myself and my food crazy dog who enjoy it!
Bokkoms are sun dried. And eaten in solidarity.

How long does smoking it that way preserve your fish?

Try breaking the fishes necks to dispatch them ....stops them suffering and improves tasted of the fish
Breaking their neck isn't the best way and besides with such a volume such practices are ridiculous. As for taste that is a myth.

please watch some youtube to get train from where to cut head part of fish. may be too much availability of resourse is the reason. u have thrown extra part of fish near to bay compare to place where u went to catch fish deep area

does smoking meat add carcinogens? i get that it helps preserve the food but if you arent searching for your next meal, isnt it just safer to not smoke your meat? i dont care for the flavor smoking adds anyway.
