My grandpa plays in the alumni. This year is my first year in band and I play trumpet. I know all the songs by heart because I hear my grandpa practicing every time I go to their house. I want to be just like him and his brother.

We have the ELF with different franchises in Germany and then we have many different American Football clubs in many cities like in my hometown chemnitz (chemnitz crusaders). But football is not that big in Germany like in America so there are not that many people who want to spend time playing or watching football.
I know I won't be able to be in the marching band because I'm from Canada, I've only been to Maine when I was like, 5-6, for a ski trip. I have been practicing my snare skills and I imagine I'm in the band. Big fan. Ryan, you inspired me to want to be a snare drummer. And I also am in love with Ohio now.
it doesnt matter if youre from canada. you can go to school in america and be in the marching band. school i went to had many international students. depends on the school if you need to be recruited or audition.
skylar s haha i’m a freshman this year and marching band is super fun, if you’re passionate about it you’ll love it 100% :) hopefully your marching band does competitions for state and things like that cause it’s a lot more fun than just playing boring songs and staying in the same spot half of the time
I have been wanting to go to Ohio State since I was 10 and I've been trying so hard to earn a full-ride scholarship to play in the marching band. I have put in so many hours worth of work for band and everything. Even if I dont get a scholarship because I live in Missouri I'm still going. I love their marching band so much and it seems like so much fun. I think I have easily put in 35,000 hours into band and marching over the past 4 years. I hope I'll be able to get in when I apply which wont be for another 3 years but I'm very ready

LoneWolf38 we get dot books. Basically they’re sheets that have coordinates of everyone’s place on the field. And the way we stay together and work so well is because our drum major conducts us. And we all look at the DB and take out steps in unison. Also we’re a big family so we work together well!

@@LazyboyLP "The Script Ohio" is actually one of the easiest to learn and perform. Really, all you need to do is follow the guy (or gal) in front of of you. LOL
We all get iPads that show us exactly where to go on the field. All of our music is on there as well. However, Script Ohio is a little more than follow the leader. Each section of "Ohio" has its own written counts and foot that is supposed to hit specific points. If any one of those spots or counts are off, the script is messed up.
Total respect for this extremely talented group of young people and everyone who works with them and supports them. Their discipline is so refreshing and it pays off with their flawless performances. I was a bit curious (as I'm inquisitive by nature) about how the GoPro is assigned. I'd also like to know if whoever is assigned the GoPro the only one who sings the verse after the ramp entrance? Hey, I am at OSU and transferring to main campus soon and i want to try out for the marching band as a bass drummer. What tips can you give me to help increase my skills beyond basic marching practice and learning skills are playing the drum. What are some non-obvious things they look for that i should try and get good at?
Ryan....I don't see any "snares" on the "snare drums"; neither do I hear any. Is everything changed since I was in the band in 1965,1966 and 1967 ? Please clarify for me. Maybe I'm just getting old.
This was our first time using these particular drums with these heads, and we had literally gotten them 2 or 3 days before this performance. They sound better in the actual pregame video I posted after this.
My question is how does everyone remember their dot/ place so well? I know you must practice a lot. In the beginning is it hard to know exactly where your going? I’m a freshman in high school right now, but I would love to play in the OSMB one day!
We have iPads that tell us where to go and we rehearse every day, so it is sort of engrained into our memories haha. If you're interested in becoming a member of the band, I would highly recommend attending the Summer Clinic in mid-July. It is designed specifically for high school students, and it is what I credit to me making the band my freshman year
@@buszgg1769 that would be funny seeing Ryan playing trombone, to be honest. I played the trombone in both seventh and eighth grade, and when I was in eighth grade, I was the only trombone player, because there were like 10 to 15 7th graders playing trombone.

The GoPro was just a sign up list for first come first serve. Usually all of JI Row (drum line) sings the verse.
