My high school uses their “across the field march” for our fight song, and it was kinda funny because we were in the Michigan State University homecoming parade and we were told many times not to play it.
Amanda Stokes we play on the hill of the field and then do our chant, fight song, then run to our pre-game chart and then when we touchdown we play glory, glory
I love how they play while docking so that every ship/boat and person that's leaving and standing at the docks can hear them coming home and then someone sets off fireworks to welcome them home and people in thier community gather to cheer and welcome them back aswell. And people are sounding their ship's horns.😊🐉🐘 Is the entire population of Ohio gathered there?😞🐉🐘
From a former University of Alabama Million Dollar Band member... You guys are awesome! Very talented group! I have always enjoyed OSU's fight song! Trumpet salute!
In case anyone is wondering, this was for the 200th anniversary of a naval victory off of the very tiny island of Put In Bay, Ohio, in Lake Erie. Unless you own your own boat, this ferry is generally the only way on or off the island itself. The large crowds that managed to gather in spite of this were to help celebrate this once-in-a-century commemoration. The tall ship at 6:21 is a replica of the Us Brig Niagara, the hero of the battle itself. The battle flag used by the Americans, "Don't Give Up The Ship", is also plastered everywhere throughout the video. More information can be found here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Lake_Erie
Although a Rutgers alumnus Class of '59, I love the spirit of Ohio State U. The OU band is the greatest I have ever seen. Thanks for the joy you bring !
We were there and watched them land on the Island, & march through the Town. Later we sat and watched them play at the Monument. It was the highlight of our weekend. Now I'm so happy we were there that weekend, because my Big OSU fan, my husband, passed away 7 years ago this past Memorial Day weekend, but he was able to see His Buckeye Marching Band in person. He was thrilled. ❣️
Huge fan of the OSU Marching Band, i'm from the Netherlands and i'm planning on making a trip through the US of A and on of the things on my list to do is see this awesome band! Hopefully i see them within a few years from now
Good luck getting tickets to an Ohio State game. However, whether you do or not, you can always hit up the Skull Session which occurs 2 hours before kickoff. It's open to anyone. They run through all the music they'll play that day. It's a dress rehearsal/pep rally. If there's a visiting band, they will play too. Then if you do have tickets, make sure you get to your seat to see pre-game. Stay in your seat for halftime, and watch them during postgame, both on and off the field.
What this video reminds me of was being a kid in my home town. We had two grade schools, a middle school, and a high school. On homecoming the high school band and the parade would head past all the schools around the town and end up back at the stadium next to the high school and kids would be lead out to the side of the road to watch the parade pass. Even before you could see it you could hear the cadences and music echoing through the neighborhood. the whole parade route was just over 5 miles long. I eventually got to take part when I got to high school and while the way I had to carry my instrument for the parade really wore out the arm, it was always a blast and I loved it. Now well into my adulthood I still miss those parades. I don't know if they even do them anymore. But the sounds of the music in the distance just always excites me, i become a kid again.
So what was the occasion of Ohio State being in Put-In-Bay? Was this a pleasure cruise, or was Ohio state playing an in-state team (like Toledo or something)?
And it was a glorious fall weekend except the morning of the battle re-enactment(rain,wind). And somebody forgot to tell ICE as the tall ships were meeting🤣
OMG !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This was on September 1st, 2013. The band was traveling to Put-In-Bay, Ohio, for the Bicentennial Celebration of the Battle of Lake Erie !!!!
Okay honestly if it was brass it’s probably better if it fell in the water than on the ground cause if they were able to recover it probably all they’d have to do is replace the valves and the possible lost mouthpiece 😂
Looks like Jon Waters playing tuba -- yes the same Jon Waters that was run out of his job (as the most innovative and talented Director TBDBITL ever had) by an Ohio State University administration seemingly determined to hang someone for not ending all ribald traditions immediately. This is a GREAT band representing a sometimes-ridiculously PC-lefty campus leadership. But that said, Go Bucks!
Mike is right. The Ohio State University, under the shitshow of Michael Drake, had turned our beloved alma mater, into a pussfest of epic proportions. Ohio State was built on an unapologetic grit. Today’s OSU doesn’t hold a candle to the days of yore.
Well this isn’t exactly Highschool Marching this is better, if you want something to compare to use DCI but those are like the pros, it’s like comparing the NFL to High School football
I was waiting for someone to fall over the edge and everyone starting to laugh but it didn't happen:). But other hand this band is amazeing! I wish my high school band could fill a boat that size.(we can only fit all 38 of us in one R.V)
Um...., I don't know why I am watching this. My husband is a die hard Michigan fan. My children grew up in Oklahoma and know OSU as Oklahoma State University but are fans of OU Oklahoma University. I'm not a fan of any team. I grew up watching "The Pig Bowl" out of Sacramento.CA between the police and the Sheriffs in Sacramento. A good rendition of "Hang On Sloopy" :)
What? Ohio is pretty damn awesome! I’ve been all over the world, and I returned, because the people, the traditions, and the excellence. Sure, the weather can bring surprises, but between the cost of living, houses, money to make, and even The Ohio State University? I wouldn’t trade it for anywhere else.
Weather is fine. No earthquakes to speak of, no hurricanes, wildfires, mud slides...winter is the perfect time to hibernate and read some good books...or ski, snowmobile. So blessed to be born and raised a Buckeye. We basically won the Civil War. We own the moon...oh, and we don’t give a damn for the whole state of *ichigan!
They have 28 euphoniums/baritones (If there is a difference, please tell me) if you include alternates. As far as contras, sousaphones hit the same notes, but having a contra dot the i would just be weird.
Pikcube well there really isn't a difference except for the way you hold the instrument. I play the marching euphonium and use the regular bell front for concert season.
Pikcube There is. While not a huge difference, the Euphonium has a fourth valve and deeper sound. While the baritone has no third valve and is higher pitched. I play both the Euphonium and marching baritone, so I can tell the differences. You're welcome.
How can you say they dont have marching euphoniums when it doesnt matter they still have trombones and euphoniums and a sousa is basically a contra they hit the same notes and same volume sooo...
I love the Spirit all around them. Everyone was celebrating them. Unluckly i live in Germany so i just would see them once i visited the USA. So feed me more with those videos!
I thought band members couldn't sing lol thats why i was in band
Tyler Brown 😂
Musicians can ;)
in my band we sing the alma mater and such (actually learn the words/notes etc) and we have some great singers
lol I play cymbals we can't sing ;0
For the Bluecoats we have to sing.
My high school uses their “across the field march” for our fight song, and it was kinda funny because we were in the Michigan State University homecoming parade and we were told many times not to play it.
dylan selles same, and we came up with our own words for the song, and everyone at the game sings along.
A_Man_Da 0808 oh nice we also use it
@@dylanselles3743 funny thing, our school's fight song is Victors. We're a high stepping band based on the university of mn

missed opportunity in my eyes
Is there anything more American and more spirited than a University Band ! I'm not a Ohio State fan but this was absolutely great !
There's football and military.
+Joseph Ludwig Yes there is, but BOTH have bands!
seamus1956 Incorrect. The BAND has football teams and the military.
1951RKP I want to go to Ohio state university
I sat in the visitors section with 4,000 VT fans- all amazed adoring fans of our band. TBDBITL🇺🇸

Kat Canner woah!😂
He's my high school band director now!
This is great....and I'm. Michigan fan!!!! Awesome!

They all took 2 dramamines to not get seasick of course
If I ever become a band teacher, this is the video I'm showing them
Who doesn't think this is so incredibly truly awesome! I wish I could see something like this! How amazing!!!
What happened at 3:42 ? Hope nothing fell of the boat..... those instruments look very expensive
Most, if not all the trumpets are Bach straddle, so yes very expensive. Would I march with a Bach, no, more King trumpet myself.
