My favorite part is when they’re standing in the building in what seems like a disorganized mess and then they start walking again and seamlessly fall back in line
For those that have served in the military, they/we really like it. It's different than any other marching band. It's the precision & details but thankfully, we all don't like & dislike the same things.
Thanks for posting this. I'd not seen the full march to Skull Session before from the band's perspective so that was very interesting. The Alumni pre-game was awesome to watch too!
I am proud to say I've learned the entire cadence sequence from this video alone by ear. (granted it's rough) I kept track of how many times I've watched this, and it's 17 times through and through You've made a high school center snare in New York truly inspired GO JI ROW!!! (and now it's time to look at the sheets to see how close i was LOL)
I probably watch this 5 times a day bc of how cool this is. When I get out of highschool, this is where I want to go. As a freshmen right now, I can play pretty much everything that the Ohio state marching band played in this video.
This reminds me of marching in high school. Favorite memories of high school was being in the band room, doing band things, and being with band people.
Mason Bland They are the alternates. So many people audition for the band that if they have people that didn’t quite make the cut for a spot on the field for pregame and/or halftime but are still very capable of being in the ensemble, they can keep them on as alternates in case a spot in the band needs filled, or they can challenge someone for their spot later on in the season. At least that’s what I’ve always known alternates to be. Someone who’s been in TBDBITL could give you exact details of their procedures for alternates.
I cant believe that yall are so talented and btw for the past 4.5 years yall have been me dedication for band and my goal towards band and when i graduate i hope to get a Collage scholarship for Ohio State Marching Band
Where I come from there is no tradition for marching bands. You guys are simply amazing. One can tell that you spend hours preparing to be able to be at the top of the game so hats off to you !! The only thing I can say, that if inever can , I will visit and hopefully see yo7 guys playing live !!!!!!
Whenever you walked around campus with your band mates - or anywhere - did you guys find yourselves falling into step with each other? (It would happen to us military types all the time!) ⚓️⚓️ Thanks for sharing your videos!
Was in marching band in highschool and we'd unintentionally do it walking next to eachother or if a group of us would go hang out it would happen so I'd assume that it happens with anyone who's been part of something like this where you march in step together.
I found this video today. I will be there today and I will be thinking of my late father. He was a fanatical jazz drummer. He loved TBDBITL. He would have loved this video.
I play flute right now for both marching and symphonic band and I’m starting to think about switching to trumpet for marching band so I can maybe one day hope to be part of this amazing band right here. Wish me luck lmao! Much love to the band!!!
I got into these videos last year in 8th grade and after signing up for the summer clinic thing as a freshman I’m coming back and watching all of them. They’re all as good and amazing to me as they were the first time
I'm from Belgium and have never been to the USA yet, but if I go, I definitely want to see at least the Skull session, and if possible a match so I can see the figures you guys make on field, but seeing how full it is (this place and the field stadium), I doubt I will be able to :( Do you get automatically access to the skull session if you have a ticket for the game, or do you have to buy separate tickets?
Maybe someone knows more, but about 3-5 years ago, someone retired from their "real job" and then joined band...they had always wanted to do it as an undergraduate, but never had the time...so it was a retirement gift to themselves.
Nice. The ramp cadence was my favorite. My high school marching band also has pretty good cadences too. I love when the guy said, dude I can’t feel my arm and that part in I want to go back where they tap the stickstwice sounded like they had metal drumsticks
Would playing for the Riverside City College Marching Tigers be a good idea if you want to go to OSU? They were in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade last year and my brother was in it. Great Video, the quality was really good. -From a tuba player who is aspiring to go to RCC or Ohio State.

Casey McCurry I would personally say the snare drum if you were to pick, but really all the drums are the most important drums. It’s a perfect blend of different sounds to make the iconic sound of a drumline.
Quick question: do you guys now have a set of pregame drums that have the Powerstroke heads on them and a halftime set with White Max heads? I'm very curious since you haven't used Powerstrokes for a while.
Andrew Lineweaver we used Mylar heads for pregame and halftime for this game as a throwback due to it being the alumni game/sesquicentennial celebration! We will be back to Kevlar from now on (although I’ll definitely miss the Mylar for pregame and the more traditional stuff).
@@7LCBand That makes more sense. I went to the OSUMB Summer Clinic the past two years (first year on snare and second on tenors) and Mark was talking about how you guys have made the permanent switch to kevlar so when I saw the Powestrokes I got confused.
Probably budget prohibitive, but having the Mylar heads for pre/post game would be terrific. I miss the traditional tbdbitl sound. The Kevlar doesn’t work nearly as well for ramp and the school song stuff.
