Yeah We're only marching our first drill which is 37 sets and then standing and playing our second movement. But either way their drill sheets must be insanely long.

This show was designed by the director, who got the job because of the "Video Games" show in October, 2012. He was the first band member to ever design a show, and was part of TBDBITL for 19 years. Despite all of that, the really mind-boggling thing about this show is that they did an entirely different one the next week.

Santas Cousin that ‘knee’ thing is actually really hard to do in unison. It’s a high quality technique, even turning 180 degrees in unison is high quality technique. I mean you say what you wanna say but the effort put into those ‘knees’ shouldn’t be ignored.

i did not get the big deal about marching bands in the states...then i saw these guys...this is talent and coordination beyond anything i have ever seen.
I'm in 8th grade, and for a fun assignment my Band teacher let us join with the marching band for The Star Spangled Banner. It was really fun. Everyone was super nice and helped us get to where we needed to go. Then we got to sit on the top seats and watch them during halftime, and me and my friends were naming off every video-game. (it was video-game themed) I didn't get the point in Marching Band until I watched them. My parents were trying to force me to join it in 9th Grade, but now I can't wait to join! The only sad thing is it was too cold to stay for the game.. I couldn't even hold my trumpet because it was cold in my hands! So I said "Imma wrap this in blankets when I get home." and another trumpet player laughed and said "That's one way to do it." making new friends already! (I recently just joined band and I'm already doing really good at trumpet for first starting.)
They are truly awesome! Btw check out Texas High school marching bands , FM Marcus high school 6A UIL and Flowermound highschool 6A UIL marching great bands also

Time. Lots of it. My school marching band has two weeks of band camp and we can barely finish learning all of our marches and music. They have a lot more elaborate and difficult marches, so I'm guessing about 3-4 weeks, unless they are really advanced and dedicated. Probably the latter

Hahahaha that's cute. Take an overrated college, give them a giant marching band with an ass ton of ridiculous special effects, and what do you get? An overrated, mediocre marching band belonging to OSU! They have mediocre marching style at best, however they put so much ridiculous focus on the drill aspect and the stupid special effects that shouldn't even BE in a marching band that they look insanely flashy and it covers up the truth that they're a mediocre band. Oh, and the only shows people know (which there are only like three) are based on topics that of course someone who doesn't know any better about band would obviously be way into. I mean come on, video games, blockbusters, Disney hits? CLEARLY they're using stuff that's already over-the-top famous and combining it with over-the-top effects to look really good. Go look up OU (Ohio University)'s marching band if you wanna see something REALLY exciting.
Stickarms99 OU's band is on par with The Buckeye Band imo. Sure, there's a lot of flash to Ohio State's band, but they are spot on with their shows. But I absolutely love the Marching 110 as well. Their shows on Bohemian Rhapsody and Can't Hold Us were simply fantastic. Overall I'd say Ohio has some pretty great bands in general.

The Ohio State Marching Band is extremely precise and while we like to be competitive and know as a fact we are on par with them, we do respect what they do. It's so different. We strive to be exciting, they strive to make the audience go "ooooooh" with stuff. Completely different styles. So while I am flattered by the enthusiasm about the Marching 110, please do not take this comment I am replying to as a gauge to what our band's mentality is. By the fact the comment writer has a 99 in his name, likely his birth year, I highly doubt he/she is in the band. OSU and OU are equally good in their respective ways, it's just a blondes vs burnettes thing and a matter of which you prefer more. :)
I heard from a family member that there is a way to get a full scholarship for band/music which is probably another reason why they have a great marching band 👌

And I forgot to add, the Ohio State band is considered one of the best marching bands because it succeeds greatly at its desired goal - entertaining the crowd (and even those on RUclips). The OSUMB is essentially the Blue Devils, Carolina Crown, Bluecoats etc of college marching.
The guy with the baton? He’s not a drum major. Since osu doesn’t have a color guard or auxiliary team he performs he’s like the hype man. When the band is stantionary you watch him and listen to the band. He would be part of the auxiliary team if they had one. He’s not the drum major. He follows the band the band doesn’t follow him.
Ok imo this is THE best one with this band Ive seen so far. The formations were incredible! Plus they played so many songs. It amazes me their talent n how they remember all the moves and playing. I love it!

In high school marching band was my life! These bands are my deities! They are so precise in everything: their marching, their rhythms, their musical quality, the visuals. The time, and dedication that it took to make this happen are off the charts!! AMAZING!!!

but seriously: how do they do this??? i would love to see video of their practices...how do they know that they're doing it right? do they have someone up in the stands watching with walkie talkie? do they do a computer model first? and how many hours does it take to make this happen? i would watch a documentary on this marching band.

Practices start months in advance - they paint dots on a field and you have to go out even during your summertime and march for hours upon hours, getting your timing and positioning just right, memorizing when you move and what dot you move to, and then you transfer it to the real field, which has NO dots. All while also memorizing the music so you can playing from memory when you're doing it. It was my favorite part of band, but it was SO MUCH WORK. It's almost like a dance or something. :)
hellsingmongrel Yeah except college bands like Ohio State do new shows almost every week, basically every home game during Football season. Typical high schools do one show for one season. Some of the best of the best join marching band during college.
In my HS, we would do a new routine pretty regularly throughout the season. When you're doing the UIL circuit, you usually tend to change it up for every competition.
As a marching band member, I like how marching band is finally getting attention, but there are better bands out there than Ohio State. Search Carolina Crown 2013. You're welcome!

In my HS, we would do a new routine pretty regularly throughout the season. When you're doing the UIL circuit, you usually tend to change it up for every competition.

wow I can't believe this was almost 8 years ago. I remember my dad making this arrangement and my mom helping when I was younger. I am so happy to see it again so many years later.
