Interesting to hear the different instruments as they're passing each other. Like listening to single tracks of the whole song.
Speaking as a drummer myself, I can tell you snares sound completely different if you stand in front compared to behind them..

That is so cool that you learn the visiting team's fight song as well. The mental capacity of a marching band member is astounding. Remembering the music and the movements. I could not do it.

I play the sousaphone, so I automatically like what they were doing.
im in a band that cant afford good sousaphones for middle school kids, so if i do that im instantly fucked because my bell would fall off
I also play Sousaphone, and I love it.

I love watching these videos and hearing all of the voices of instruments as you're in Script Ohio. One question, and I am sorry if it seems ignorant. Obviously, OSU's band is a very visual band, and I noticed that it seems like every one of the marchers physically looks like they're in good shape. Is that just a confirmation bias or are there actual like physical test you have to pass to be in the band? I can tell you that my band in the ACC did not have anything like that so I'm curious lol.

While there are no “physical tests” that are required to make the band, the tryouts are quite grueling so you have to be in decent physical shape to have the stamina to perform well. That being said, it’s not exactly a question of being in shape as much as it is being in “band shape.” It takes a different skill set of physicality to play and march than it does to just run per se. Plus it may also be confirmation bias as I know plenty of people in TBDBITL that are a bigger side. So you can do well as long as you practice and have the right attitude!
My favorite song is the script Ohio and the drum major is so cool he is so royal too im a Ohio fan you know i was going to Ohio but they shut down cause of the virus
Hi Sarah, I've watched a few of these & it's the details that are spectacular in addition to the coordination & the ability to play music at the same time. Oh, & the military precision. I wouldn't want any other band to represent OSU! Thanks, for sharing. Wow, that flyover at the end made me proud to be from Ohio & the United States. Was just wondering if it's every high school marching band members dream to be in TBDBITL as it it for boys to play football for Ohio State?

I know you will get more subscribers and i am not only saying thag cuz you are on the ohio state football feald i am saying that cuz you have a lot of telent and you should enbrace it and everyone should know about it and the way you always do those formations that makes you very skillfull and talented (btw huge fan and i liked there band and football teem since i was three and i am 12 and that is what enspired me to do band and now i am on my countys band team(witch is heard to get into)

It should be Nebraska’s fight song. After the ramp entrance, they always play the fight song of the opposing team.

6:50 Forgive my ignorance but what is the reasoning behind the band members flanking the band director on the ladder? I can see that two are keeping the ladder steady but why do band members have to do this? Shouldn't they be playing? I also saw another person just standing there.
I believe each section has 2 extra people, because TBDBITL doesn't march with holes. They battle it out at the start of each week to see who is on the sideline that week. I live in Washington and just follow OSUMB cause im a band nerd so feel free to correct me anyone

The fight song and Carmen Ohio were both edited out of the video, that's why you didn't see them

So I am a Freshman and I play bass drum (3) for my high school band. It probably depends on how in shape you are and which drum you play. Bass 1 is the lightest (about 15 pounds) and Bass 5/6 is the heaviest (about 30-40) pounds. Although that may not seem super heavy, it is all in the back/core. I was very out of shape when I joined my band, but I started doing core workouts and jogging. By auditions, it was still hard for me to carry bass 1 for a long period of time, but I was good enough to make it. Over time, you get used to the weight of the drums, and carrying drums in its self can whip you into shape.Percussion can be very physically demanding but it is an absolute blast. If you’re interested, you should start learning. You won’t regret it. Have a good day! :)

@@1C3CR34M I have indeed marched in a band. I was a tennor drummer for a while then took over the role of playing the base drum. So it still doesn't look natural to the way i used to march.
underwaterbubbles OSU marching band is more based from military marching bands and a lot of school marching bands use a different style. That may be why

Ryan Dunson, Aren’t you the Head Squad Leader for OSU Marching Band Percussion Division? You also made a video back in October where you switched positions with the Head Squad Leader for 1 game.
Also, I don’t know what the deal is with the “Dot Dot Dot, Dot Dot Dot, OO, AA, OO, OO. And after the whistle is blown they say a word I think sounds like “Wissa”? What’s the deal with that. I’ve seen it in a few videos in OSU Marching Band Experience Videos including yours Ryan Dunson. And in a few other videos. But I never understood it.
PS. Ryan Dunson that comment made me laugh softly, more like a happy laugh then a “haha, that’s funny” laugh. You know what I mean right.
PPS. Ryan Dunson, that Ramp Exit Sound off with the Percussion Division. Was the best sound off I’ve ever heard. mainly because of how your enthusiasm was, I’m now a huge fan fan of OSU band now. Mostly the Drum Major. And it also started with your video Ryan Dunson. I live in Texas but want to move to Ohio to go to OSU just to be Drum Major. the OSU marching band works really hard! Although Sarah your video was awesome to.

As with all American marching Bands, cannot fault the precision but oh dear to European eyes the style of marching is just awful
