Gunna attempt this soon. I have one of those Hip Gear controllers with a screen on it for the Xbox so I wanna set it up at my bedside and when waking up on a lazy morning just pop onto some cool retro emulators.
Just wanted to let you know, the game does not have to be just splinter cell, there is a version of MechAssault that works with this as well. However it is extremely rare to find due to the fact that the game disc needs to be the first version released. The MechAssault save game file can be downloaded somewhere online and with your modded Xbox controller you can plug it into your computer and write the file to a memory card.
I do miss the old days of xbox modding, I soft modded mine until i could afford a X3 chip. I still have my xbox and doubt I shall ever part with it. I actually prefered this over my 360 when I got it. Bonus you can download Xlink Kai so you can play online old school for free
You don't need an ethernet cable. You can transfer files via DVDR. That's how I did it. There's even a downloadable DVD called autoinstaller deluxe which automatically installs all the emulators
my friend had a xbox original that his dad modded for him you could download games onto the xbox and a select screen of all the games they would download from block buster it had blue leds in the shape of a "X" on the surface it was pretty cool
@BFKAnthony817 actually you don't have to restart your xbox.....you just go to said folder wether it be games or emulator, and press the start button on your controller and select "refresh list"

The hot swap (ndure + unleashX) method is the best in my opinion, simply because it's free. Free if you have an old computer lying around that is. I used the hot swap method with my xbox and a friends xbox.
I was going to try manually putting the appropriate files on the x-box memory card. I was wondering if you know which files I need and how to transfer them to the memory card.

You HAVE to restart the Xbox every time you add something new to be able to see it. The xbox updates the list every time it boots up so it can't see the stuff you just added till you reboot it.

my xbox's disc drive only works when it wants too and sometimes the game freezes my question is if i try this will xbox be screwed up if the game freezes when its installing the mod?
No due to how this mod is executed if you can get to the install screen without a fuck up on your drives part, after that point the software is all in memory and installed from there, the disk only acts as a boot device, this should give your Xbox much more life as your lens is dieing sadly a common issue :/

+Decimator Omega You can use Chimp. This program runs entirely on your modded Xbox (including v1.6 models without having to use Telnet) to allow you to hotswap the internal hard disk with another, larger, model.
The method that worked for me was to used a Western Digital HDD mines 250gb the tutorial I used was using a 500gb western digital. its fairly easy honestly. heres the turotial www.instructables.com/id/Original-XBOX-Hard-Drive-Upgrade/ Basically get a western digital hard-drive, get a Y splitter for 4-Pin molex(the hdd power cord) use the splitter to give power to both the 8gb hdd and the western digital. then boot-up your xbox once you make it to the dashboard. unplug the reader cable from the DVD drive and plug it into the Western Digital. Run "Chimp" then use it to clone the 8gb to the western digital. once it's clones look for an option to create the extended partitions for the space after 8gb. choose "Cap F at 137gb Rest G" then once this is all done, look for "Lock Slave Harddrive" and lock with the "motherboard" option. if the lock was successful, turn off the xbox remove the 8gb and place the western digital in and plug it up. and there ya go. be sure to "Enable G drive" in the settings somewhere. Of course I assume you have already softmodded the original 8gb. That's the fun part >_> I used the Ndure program to do it. Didn't feel like buying one of the games to do the game save exploit. if you wanna drop the couple bucks on the few games that can do the savegame exploit its much easier.

Great video. I have a couple of questions. I'm too cheap to buy or rent the prepacked memory card. So I took a female to male usb cable and cut it in half, used the female end and spliced it to an xbox controller cord so I can hook a flash drive up to my xbox. This works fine, I can go to the memory folder in my xbox and the drive shows up fine. I'd like to just load the softmod install files onto my flashdrive. However I can't find exactly which files I need on the website. Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction. Links would be great. Thanks!

+davion gurant Yes you can reuse the mod. Just copy it to another memory card via Xbox then you can have it in both. Not sure about 5960, may be worth googling it to find out..

Hey can you guys help me out? I successfully soft modded my xbox. Everything is fine with it. It plays games , runs emulators etc etc. its just that when i turn the xbox on via eject button i get the service required error 21 message. If i use the reset button it works just fine. I fear it may have something i did the day after i modded the xbox. I turned on the xbox the next day and it kept launching to the original dashboard (i couldnt get unleashx to start) so my dumbass assumed that the softmodt mustve been removed overnight for some reason. So i updated my dashboard again using halo 2 (to start over again) then after that the xbox resetted with the error 21. Do you know how i can fix this? Keep in mind it works just fine if i turn on with the reset button rather than eject button. I have a hardrive on the way to upgrade my xbox. I really wanna know how i can fix this before I further mod my xbox. I really dont wanna fuck this up. Thank you Xbox modding community. Im so new to this. I dont know words like flashing/hotswap so please bear with me

i never use it anymore... most xbox exlusives such as oddworld stranger's wrath have been remastered or released on psn, xbox live or steam... but that's all changed now...

ShogunGin0 The website "had" that feature but no longer offer it. Either way, one purchase can softmod an unlimited amount of original Xbox's.
FTP is not the only solution, DVD with files works great to!!!

I know this is an old vid but I'm looking for some help. I can't find a usb flash drive that works with the xbox. I've tried 4 different usb flash drives but no luck. can the soft mod be done with the original xbox memory card? Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you

Hey can you guys help me out? I successfully soft modded my xbox. Everything is fine with it. It plays games , runs emulators etc etc. its just that when i turn the xbox on via eject button i get the service required error 21 message. If i use the reset button it works just fine. I fear it may have something i did the day after i modded the xbox. I turned on the xbox the next day and it kept launching to the original dashboard (i couldnt get unleashx to start) so my dumbass assumed that the softmodt mustve been removed overnight for some reason. So i updated my dashboard again using halo 2 (to start over again) then after that the xbox resetted with the error 21. Do you know how i can fix this? Keep in mind it works just fine if i turn on with the reset button rather than eject button. I have a hardrive on the way to upgrade my xbox. I really wanna know how i can fix this before I further mod my xbox. I really dont wanna fuck this up. Thank you Xbox modding community. Im so new to this. I dont know words like flashing/hotswap so please bear with me

i never use it anymore... most xbox exlusives such as oddworld stranger's wrath have been remastered or released on psn, xbox live or steam... but that's all changed now...

Even if you have a 10GB Xbox instead of 8GB you will only be able to use 8GB since that is how it is formatted by Microsoft.

hi iam having problems trying to soft mod my Xbox.
followed your tutorial i have the right dash ..5960. the mod works fine up to splinter cell stage.when i start the splinter cell checkpoints which is the Linux.
i click on Linux and all i get is a black screen. it wont soft mod for some reason. if you got time can you check my video i have put up of problem i am having.

i cant play my Jurassic park operation genesis game on my original xbox or my 360 bc of a stupid fucking region problem.. i ordered the game off ebay from the netherlands and it wont work on either of my systems bc they were made in north america and my game was made in europe.. would modding my original xbox help this problem man?
I think it would, I have not had the same problem but in my EvoX settings there is a gaming and DVD region option, I bet that would solve it.
looks like a need a third xbox if I want to do this my first one has way too many good memories to get rid of all the memory my second is the one I play on and if I want to do this looks like I need another xbox
