Great review. I purchased this bar a few days ago and I have been absolutely blown away. I’m coming from the q90r and it’s shocking how much better it is. Dolby atmos music is the biggest improvement. I like that you can go through the different sound stages and it’s still in atmos. You are correct though. Just leave it on adaptive. Non atmos music is amazing in adaptive. Especially older music like pink Floyd. It’s a completely new experience. Great job Samsung.

Lovely review, this really peaked my intrest in this soundbar. I recently bought my first Oled TV a 65" LG C1 and now I want to give it the sound it deserves. This Samsung Q990B really seems a great option and even without the better sub I feel the display on the front and the much cleaner design without the cloth is worth the extra money for me compared to last years Q950A. And than you get all the other improvements on top. But I'm still on the fence. The other options I have in mind is starting out with the Sonos Arc and over time expand with the sub and surrounds or the Sony HT-A7000 and expand at a later date with a sub and the SA-R55 rear speakers. The Cinema experience is most important for me, Music not so much although I do like to watch a concert now and then. The Sony and the Sonos options are way more expensive for the complete set compared to the Samsung but if I get a better experience at the end I don't mind, I buy and use it for at least six or seven years or even longer before replacing and over that time period €1000,- extra is not that important. So how would you compare these option? And how would you rate the Q990B if you would have had it included in your "Best Dolby Atmos Soundbars in 2022" video? Thanks again for all the time you invest in your videos, it really helps and brought me up to speed in soundbar land.
@@yuval260990 I actually bought the Q990B for shy over 1000 euro's, in the end the difference in price was just too much to justify while most reviews consider the Q990B in the same ballpark as the previous mentioned options. I'm very happy with it, movie watching has been a blast (quite literally).
Hi i was wondering if you have seen the difference in the q930b versus q990b. I know its 9.1 vs 11.1 but the cost difference is significant. We just bought a fire tv, and have an old(5 years) Samsung system 5.1 that doesn't mesh well, so we are looking to upgrade.
Hey Guys would the Samsung Q930B be a better choice for smaller rooms? Because its less speakers bouncing off everywhere and also doesn't have Rear Side firing speaker (which I don't have space for because they'll be in the very corner)

No worries Supratik. The Q990B has better controlled bass and plenty of it, even for the biggest explosions. I would buy the Q990B for the best sound quality and it gives you much more control over the sound than the 9.1
Super test, I'm currently using a soudbar 990b in a combination of CX and PS5. Do you choose the Game / Adaptativ mode, which would be the best to get out of Playstaion?
Cheers man. I chose adaptive for everything because of ease of use and there wasn’t much difference between gaming and adaptive. Adaptive figures out what type of content you’re playing and sets it so the sound is best for that content.
Have had this for month now and i’m blown away with how big sound it offers! Only negative thing i can say is left rear speaker disconnecting. It doesn’t happen that often, but this price product and where audio is everything this shouldn’t happen at all because it’s ruining the experience. I really hope Samsung can fix this with firmware, i also still can get new replacement unit, but i wonder does it make any difference.

@@MrPerMick81 ok, so old unit too, speaker issue didn't came with update. I didn't update it right away and yet i had rear speaker issue since first day. I wish it could be fixed with firmware, but i don't know. Samsung haven't released firmware over a month.

Nice review. I just brought home the Q930b and it's amazing. Looking forward to that review as there isn't much on RUclips yet. . For $1k it was a hard sell to pay 800 more dollars for the Q990. The one step down model for 2022 seems to be a big step up compared to 2021 models and nearly matches the top model.

I have a qn90b with a 990b soundbar. The soundbar is hooked up through earc to the tv. I have a Xbox x hooked directly to the tv also. I have played around with listening to Apple Music and Spotify through the Samsung tv apps and the Xbox x. Yesterday I hooked up the Xbox x directly to the soundbar and the sound on Apple Music and Spotify is so much better. The problem is that the Xbox does not do 120fps through the soundbar so I was wondering if I leave the Xbox x straight to tv for picture quality but wanted music directly to the soundbar is a Apple TV plugged in straight to soundbar best option for Apple Music and Spotify sound quality or do you know of other options that would be better?
In this comparison video, I’d love to hear about L/R separation. The ONE weakness I feel the full Sonos system has is that it seems to throw some of what should be “front left” and “front right” to “rear left” and “rear right.” In most movies I watch, a lot of the music is coming front the rears, when it feels like it should be coming more from the “stereo front”. When the mix pulls the music to “front and center,” it appropriately moves to the “center channel.” Not sure if anyone else has this issue, but it’s my only gripe with the Sonos Arc, Ones, Sub setup I have. It sounds like the Samsung may do a slightly better job with giving that “front left” and “front right” soundstage?
Just got this soundbar last week and it is incredible! I was going to buy a 950a on open box clearance but I got the 990b for nearly the same price brand new! Using it in a small basement living room with low ceilings and it absolutely fills the room with sound! Really appreciate the video to show what settings are the best for this soundbar.

Great review thanks! Just got this soundbar and have been experiencing disconnect right off the bat. For me its rear right speaker and sub. Going to be moving this around with my wifi router but it's exact same placement as my Q950 and had zero issues with it.
a question about your settings. You have turned all the controls all the way up except Center. Wouldn't it have been enough to simply lower the center?
I'm currently renting an LG SN9YG and I'm very happy with it, but I am still playing with the thought of returning it and getting this HW-Q990B (or Q995B, as it is called in my region) for an even more immersive movie experience.
If your TV has eARC then you’re finefine too plug the Apple TV in through the TV. I plug it in through the soundbar because I don’t have an eARC enabled TV.
Superb review 👍 I have this one for a week now and expected some more of the sub and rears. Probably some further settings will increase this. More concerns I have with automatic switching between optical (D.IN) and TV eARC. The cable tv receiver is connected with hdmi1 of the 65QN65B. Via the same receiver I connected for sound only (radio channels ) the optical cable to the soundbar. When I switch off the TV the soundbar is not picking up the signal from the optical cable. This only works when I remove the eARC from the soundbar. Am I wrong with my expectation of this setting or is the soundbar not working properly? Thanks for helping me out with this.
See if there any setting to change sound output to optical in soundbar... In your case the tv is handling the sound from receiver and routing it to soundbar via hdmi, if you want to send another optical output to soundbar then see if there's any output setting in receiver
A sales rep actually talked me out of buying the Q990B a few days ago. Told me me whole neighbourhood hood didnt need to know what i was watching lol. He pointed me towards the Q800B and he was totally right. Lost out on commission but provided great customer service 🤣🤣

Got mine a few weeks ago, gotta say that I was really impressed! I thought the sound would be thinly but, man!, it really is not. Good for movie as well as music. This bar does not play!
It’s quite something if you haven’t experienced surround sound system before at home, like i wasn’t. I was blown away from the first second! Too bad i’m experiencing random connection cuts with rear speaker, but otherwise it’s just stunning system.

How do you think it compares to a dedicated AVR system with in ceiling speakers? I had a 5.1 system, with floorstading speakers and an extremely powerful sunfire subwoofer, was planning to buy an Atmos compatible receiver, but then just abandoned the idea for a while. My room is quite small and I still have all the speakers. In the end, do you think it's best to make it a 5.1.4 system, or forget about it and buy this soundbar? For me, it will be a lot cheaper buying the soundbar, the receiver itself costs almost twice, and then there's all the installation and ceiling work...
..."nice premium plastic fiinish"?...I read elsewhere it's aluminium...? Anyway, this product is plagued by issues of the rears speakers losing connection, and now reports are coming in of people having problems with the sub also losing connection...for that reason ALONE I would steer well clear of this product because Samsung ain't ever going to fix it. Pick up last years 950A at a discount would be my advice. I own it and it's very good.
@ Archway Tech. Is there a big difference in sound quality compared to the Samsung HW-Q800B, just for watching movies? Let's not count on the rear speakers?Are the subs the same size? Thanks.
It's all room dependant. The room size, shape, ceiling height plays such a big factor in these devices that what works for someone may not work for you. Just make sure you have a return policy if you don't like the device. I found the HT-A9 had a decent sound stage, but the center channel was too weak. It was also very poor if the volume was too low, so I changed over to the Samsung. Samsung center is very good and also very detailed at lows volumes. But again as above what works for me may not work for you.
Hey man Iggy here from Melbourne Australia, Great Review… I’m just wondering is the Alexa function is working on your Soundbar Q990b? I recently took back the Q930b Soundbar because the Alexa function wasn’t working. I used the Samsung SmartThings App to to connect both the Soundbar and signed in and allowed my Amazon Alexa App/Account to link the Soundbar which was successfully done. When I say “Alexa” or “Hey Alexa” this feature is still not working on the Soundbar. The mic on the Soundbar is on and everything. When I tested the Q930b in the store I bought it from it worked when I say “Alexa” or “Hey Alexa” it worked in the store, that’s why they upgraded me to the Q990b which was great but now the Alex is not working on this new Q990b. I Have a 2020 Q950T QLed 75” TV but this should not make a difference right. Am I doing something wrong? Cheers
Hello there ... great detailed in depth video .. during the most recent prime days, i bought a Amazon Fire stick 4k max, it is dolby atmos and 4k enabled and streams at wifi 6 .. but I see all youtube reviewers using Apple TV .. Did i make a mistake?
No worries Abhishek. The Apple TV is a more well know device worldwide whereas the Amazon Fire TV Stick isn't available everywhere and here in New Zealand it's not very popular. The Apple TV is a well polished product and works very well with other Apple Devices. Many people have a movie library through Apple Movies so it makes sense to do it all through an Apple TV. I personally use it becuase it gives nice easy access to atmos titles and I'm an Apple User. If you're an Android user then a Chromecast with Google TV or Fire TV Stick 4k woud be best.
Hi I just purchased the Q990B, connected to the Apple TV model A1625 (bought it a few years ago). Connected to my 12 year old TV but has ARC HDMI. I’m all excited cos I switched from my BOSE 700 to this hoping to be able to enjoy full Atmos sound system. are use Netflix because I was told that if I have it set up correctly, the movie itself or show Atmos or 5.1. I think I did get a glimpse of Atmos in the display in Netflix, but soon it all turned to 5.1 instead. Was wondering if you can help me what have I done wrong?
Hey, I have the 95t 2020 tv and this 990b soundbar, I see you connected it true WiFi, should I connect it true wifi or e arc? And does wifi even give dolby atmos? Also, I see bo option to click Dolby Atmos as sound mode no matter how I connect it? (When I press the i button twice it says multi channel eArc?)
I just purchased the jbl 9.1 a few days ago .. would you say this is better ? The subwoofer on the jbl I really like but at times when im playing video games it can be too boomy and cuts off high frequencies. Would you highly recommend this over the jbl ?
I prefer the sound of the Q990B over the JBL 9.1. If you check out my 9.1 review I talk about a way to combat the extra bass. I don't know if it's worth an extra $500. If I was buying one for the first time i'd definitely spend $500 more on the Q990B but since you already have the 9.1 I suppose it depends on if you're happy with the sound or not. If not then I think you'd be happier with the 990B... It's a really great sounding bar.

Got it at home. Alexa doesn't work with Spotify, even though both technologies are onboard. They can't interact. That's a major disappointment and makes me return by system.
I've got q800B about a week ago, I plugged my fire tv stick in soundbar itself and got another HDMI in ARC ports of TV and Soudbar respectively. I'm getting dolby atmos in demo mode of fire stick but not able to get it in any netflix (have premium account) or amazon prime movies having atmos audio. can you please help me out with what's wrong. :)
How bad is the disconnection issue ? I’d rather have a bit less atmos affect (sonos) than a system which keeps dropping connection and keep me frustrated.
It happened quite a bit for me while I was testing it but I had a metal bench next to it and it was 5 meters away from the bar. I think it'll be unit specific and dependant on the room. I suppose you can always return it if it doesn't work in your place.
You can connect a second sub as long as it’s the same model. You can order a second sub but you need to tell them that its a replacement. And to connect them hold ID set and hold up on the remote
I bought this sound bar for 700USD approx. I am yet to get them delivered; I am here to find where I should place the rear speakers, as there is no space behind my couch.
I've been running the Q990B every night for the last 3 weeks and havent had a single disconnect so fingers crossed for whatever reason my luck keeps up.

Sonos is feeling like an archaic system with no rear up firing speakers .. sure they will launch it some day and u can then add or replace but I would not suggest buying something for future promise.. I will buy a system in 2 months .. It will be either Q990B or HT-A9
@@AbhishekGupta-uu3uy very true, something I’ve been thinking about too. The sonos still sounds great but you’re right, the other brands keeping adding more & more features and upping their quality every single year with new models. And prices are very competitive at this end.

I have jbl 9.1 for 3 years and thought it was great except dialogue was not all that clear in action scenes . I had power spike in a storm and shorted the sound bar. I seen all reviews on the q900b so I decided to purchase purely because of better dialogue from the samsung. I must say the jbl is a far better over all then the samsung except for dialogue. The samsung base and surround rear speakers limited on lower levels unless you start turning up the volume . jbl bass was punchy and vibrating all the way through the sound stage and the rears have more volume then the samsung. Now I wished I waited until the new jbl 2023 madels1300 and 1000, come out at the end of feburary .

Mate can you do a sound proof or deadening video please. IE: So I can watch a movie or listen to music later at night with out P....ing off the neighbours or other people in the house. I don't expect cone of silence just something that takes a nice chunk of sound away if your outside the room. cheers.

I've had the Q990b for over a month and a half now and I absolutely love it. For what it's worth, I have it paired with an LG C1 oled that I bought at the same time, and I can verify that the soundbar volume can be controlled with the LG remote, at least when connected via eArc. The volume level shows on the screen as well. Haven't tried any other input methods though. I also do not have any connection issues between the rears and the bar. The distance between them is about 12-15 ft. Has been absolutely flawless so far. For context I live in a condo in Toronto, Canada.
@@captain7091 Absolutely! It pairs perfectly with my C1. I guess the main downsides are that you can't take advantage of Q-Symphony and also if you are using the C1 with its stand like me, the soundbar blocks a tiny sliver at the bottom of the tv screen. Like maybe an inch or less. Bothered me a little at first but I don't notice it anymore really. Eventually though I might put a flat piece of wood just slightly bigger than the footprint of the stand to elevate the tv just above the soundbar. Other than that it works flawlessly with the C1 👍
Ayyy, I too am in T.O and have an LG OLED (CX). I have the 950A. Can u do me a favour? Do you have an xbox series x? When i use my series x and run everything through eArc to my Q950a and have the xbox set to dolby atmos, there is audio lag. Does the Q990B have that issue??
I too purchased the Q990b, but I feel I am not able to extract full juice from it. The bass is very mild compared to other Soundbars I tested, like JBL 9.1, etc.
I got 3weeks ago and I have rear speakers connection problem mostly left rear speaker , I replace new rear speakers and subwoofer still same problem any one has same problem and any results
Thnx for making this review. After Watching this video I did buy the soundbar. I almost bought the sonos set. And the sonos set is really good in the netherlands it is also 2 times expencive!! I did hear the sonos and the q990b toghter side by side and I think its not 1000 euro worth!!!
for amateur home theatre room would you recommend this over professional setup of dolby atmos which will cost 2-2.5x of this? and thanks for super solid review. only issue was your accent of english is lil different for indians so if possible try to be little slow.(for now i paused and replayed to understand what u said :p)
Thanks for the very very useful review, I was able to get the complete information for Q990B and purchased the same very recently 2 days ago. Samsung Q990b is really a flagship model could hear every little bit of sound from it and totally impressed with the atmos performance. I have connected it with my Samsung AU8000 65" TV through HDMI EARC to ARC input of the sound bar. I have downloaded a few sample videos from the internet for ATMOS contents sample files. But mostly i get a message on the TV which says Audio format is not supported could you please help on the same is there some specific settings for this.
Excellent review, Ive got an older Sony TV which only has ARC (not eARC). It has got optical out. If I connect the optical out from the TV to the Samsung Q990B would it then give me true Dolby Atmos?. Keep the videos coming. Regards Kevin
What is your media source TV? Then none of the Streaming services support lossless formats (eg; true HD), they support Atmos DD+ which is a lossy format and is fine for ARC. With an older TV ensure Audio Passthough has been enabled, so the formats are sent straight to the soundbar. If you have an older TV a very cost effective upgrade is to consider a device like an Amazon 4k Firestick and plug this directly into the sound bar. The single firestick remote will control everything, and the apps (Netflix, Plex, Prime, ect..) are so much faster than even on the latest Sony TVs. While you can plug the firestick into a HDMI port on the TV in your case, if you are concerned about the TV not supporting a particular audio format, this takes this out of the equation. PS: Whatever you do, don't use the optical out, standard ARC has higher bandwidth and supports more audio formats, less sync issues ect.
Got rid of my A9's and now have this and don't regret it. Center was too weak on the Sony and it's not very good on normal TV and RUclips content etc. Needs good feed like disks or uhd streaming to really perform and isn't very good on low volumes. Samsung on the other hand goes VERY loud but is also super detailed on low volumes. Found the Atmos content to be on par with both.
@@S1mmz Just wanted to know from you , whether the ATMOS feel in sony Hta9 is at par with Q990B. Also the 360 spatial mapping of sony is at par with spacefit technology claimed by samsung. If so , than q990b is an obvious choice at half the price........Please let me know as you have experienced both the systems.
@@drsatyam29 Sony's tuning is better than spacefit, however it's still not perfect and you have no control over the channels to adjust them. Samsung you can control the channels, so with a SPL meter you can tune them perfectly to the same level for better clarity. Sony, you can make the sound stage wider as you can put the speakers further apart (fronts), however the center channel is really weak and the biggest downside of the product. Seeing how 70% of the sound comes from the center channel, it was the thing I hated the most. Samsung the center channel is really clear and strong and it also goes very loud. Sony on low levels is really poor also, where as the Samsung is still very detailed on low volumes. Atmos levels I found they were the same on both devices with no clear winner, although as per first comment you can adjust the channels to make the heights better on the Samsung. However as I've always stated, work works for my room, may not work for you... But no the Sony is not worth the extra money as I found the Samsung to be better.

Hi i was wondering if you have seen the difference in the q930b versus q990b. I know its 9.1 vs 11.1 but the cost difference is significant. We just bought a fire tv, and have an old(5 years) Samsung system 5.1 that doesn't mesh well, so we are looking to upgrade.
YH, I'm thinking of Getting Q930B because it sounds very Promising. Haven't seen youtube reviews for it tho.

Hey Guys would the Samsung Q930B be a better choice for smaller rooms? Because its less speakers bouncing off everywhere and also doesn't have Rear Side firing speaker (which I don't have space for because they'll be in the very corner)

No worries Supratik. The Q990B has better controlled bass and plenty of it, even for the biggest explosions. I would buy the Q990B for the best sound quality and it gives you much more control over the sound than the 9.1

I haven’t tried the Ambeo so can’t comment on that. I found the dialogue to be crisp and didn’t have the tinniness that I’ve found with other bars

Super test, I'm currently using a soudbar 990b in a combination of CX and PS5. Do you choose the Game / Adaptativ mode, which would be the best to get out of Playstaion?
Cheers man. I chose adaptive for everything because of ease of use and there wasn’t much difference between gaming and adaptive. Adaptive figures out what type of content you’re playing and sets it so the sound is best for that content.
Have had this for month now and i’m blown away with how big sound it offers! Only negative thing i can say is left rear speaker disconnecting. It doesn’t happen that often, but this price product and where audio is everything this shouldn’t happen at all because it’s ruining the experience. I really hope Samsung can fix this with firmware, i also still can get new replacement unit, but i wonder does it make any difference.

Nice review. I just brought home the Q930b and it's amazing. Looking forward to that review as there isn't much on RUclips yet. . For $1k it was a hard sell to pay 800 more dollars for the Q990. The one step down model for 2022 seems to be a big step up compared to 2021 models and nearly matches the top model.
The 990B was $1399 at Best Buy with the purchase of a Samsung TV recently - but the 930B is good too!

Hi, if I connect my firestick pro max directly to the q990b soundbar can I still get Dolby Atmos output via netflix/prime video if the video output is to a 1080p screen or projector?

I have a qn90b with a 990b soundbar. The soundbar is hooked up through earc to the tv. I have a Xbox x hooked directly to the tv also. I have played around with listening to Apple Music and Spotify through the Samsung tv apps and the Xbox x. Yesterday I hooked up the Xbox x directly to the soundbar and the sound on Apple Music and Spotify is so much better. The problem is that the Xbox does not do 120fps through the soundbar so I was wondering if I leave the Xbox x straight to tv for picture quality but wanted music directly to the soundbar is a Apple TV plugged in straight to soundbar best option for Apple Music and Spotify sound quality or do you know of other options that would be better?

In this comparison video, I’d love to hear about L/R separation. The ONE weakness I feel the full Sonos system has is that it seems to throw some of what should be “front left” and “front right” to “rear left” and “rear right.” In most movies I watch, a lot of the music is coming front the rears, when it feels like it should be coming more from the “stereo front”. When the mix pulls the music to “front and center,” it appropriately moves to the “center channel.” Not sure if anyone else has this issue, but it’s my only gripe with the Sonos Arc, Ones, Sub setup I have. It sounds like the Samsung may do a slightly better job with giving that “front left” and “front right” soundstage?

Just got this soundbar last week and it is incredible! I was going to buy a 950a on open box clearance but I got the 990b for nearly the same price brand new! Using it in a small basement living room with low ceilings and it absolutely fills the room with sound! Really appreciate the video to show what settings are the best for this soundbar.

Great review thanks! Just got this soundbar and have been experiencing disconnect right off the bat. For me its rear right speaker and sub. Going to be moving this around with my wifi router but it's exact same placement as my Q950 and had zero issues with it.

a question about your settings. You have turned all the controls all the way up except Center. Wouldn't it have been enough to simply lower the center?

I'm currently renting an LG SN9YG and I'm very happy with it, but I am still playing with the thought of returning it and getting this HW-Q990B (or Q995B, as it is called in my region) for an even more immersive movie experience.
Is running an AppleTV though the soundbar preferred versus connecting the AppleTV to the the TV's HDMI and using eARC with the soundbar?
If your TV has eARC then you’re finefine too plug the Apple TV in through the TV. I plug it in through the soundbar because I don’t have an eARC enabled TV.
Does this pass through Dolby vision, and is it hdmi 2.1?

I have this one for a week now and expected some more of the sub and rears. Probably some further settings will increase this.
More concerns I have with automatic switching between optical (D.IN) and TV eARC. The cable tv receiver is connected with hdmi1 of the 65QN65B. Via the same receiver I connected for sound only (radio channels ) the optical cable to the soundbar. When I switch off the TV the soundbar is not picking up the signal from the optical cable. This only works when I remove the eARC from the soundbar. Am I wrong with my expectation of this setting or is the soundbar not working properly?

See if there any setting to change sound output to optical in soundbar... In your case the tv is handling the sound from receiver and routing it to soundbar via hdmi, if you want to send another optical output to soundbar then see if there's any output setting in receiver

A sales rep actually talked me out of buying the Q990B a few days ago. Told me me whole neighbourhood hood didnt need to know what i was watching lol. He pointed me towards the Q800B and he was totally right. Lost out on commission but provided great customer service 🤣🤣

Got mine a few weeks ago, gotta say that I was really impressed! I thought the sound would be thinly but, man!, it really is not. Good for movie as well as music. This bar does not play!
It’s quite something if you haven’t experienced surround sound system before at home, like i wasn’t. I was blown away from the first second! Too bad i’m experiencing random connection cuts with rear speaker, but otherwise it’s just stunning system.

How do you think it compares to a dedicated AVR system with in ceiling speakers? I had a 5.1 system, with floorstading speakers and an extremely powerful sunfire subwoofer, was planning to buy an Atmos compatible receiver, but then just abandoned the idea for a while. My room is quite small and I still have all the speakers. In the end, do you think it's best to make it a 5.1.4 system, or forget about it and buy this soundbar? For me, it will be a lot cheaper buying the soundbar, the receiver itself costs almost twice, and then there's all the installation and ceiling work...
..."nice premium plastic fiinish"?...I read elsewhere it's aluminium...? Anyway, this product is plagued by issues of the rears speakers losing connection, and now reports are coming in of people having problems with the sub also losing connection...for that reason ALONE I would steer well clear of this product because Samsung ain't ever going to fix it. Pick up last years 950A at a discount would be my advice. I own it and it's very good.

Samsung Q990B vs Sony HT-A9 + SW5 bass?
It's all room dependant. The room size, shape, ceiling height plays such a big factor in these devices that what works for someone may not work for you. Just make sure you have a return policy if you don't like the device.
I found the HT-A9 had a decent sound stage, but the center channel was too weak. It was also very poor if the volume was too low, so I changed over to the Samsung. Samsung center is very good and also very detailed at lows volumes.
But again as above what works for me may not work for you.

I’m just wondering is the Alexa function is working on your Soundbar Q990b? I recently took back the Q930b Soundbar because the Alexa function wasn’t working.
I used the Samsung SmartThings App to to connect both the Soundbar and signed in and allowed my Amazon Alexa App/Account to link the Soundbar which was successfully done. When I say “Alexa” or “Hey Alexa” this feature is still not working on the Soundbar. The mic on the Soundbar is on and everything.
When I tested the Q930b in the store I bought it from it worked when I say “Alexa” or “Hey Alexa” it worked in the store, that’s why they upgraded me to the Q990b which was great but now the Alex is not working on this new Q990b.
I Have a 2020 Q950T QLed 75” TV but this should not make a difference right.
Am I doing something wrong?

No worries Abhishek. The Apple TV is a more well know device worldwide whereas the Amazon Fire TV Stick isn't available everywhere and here in New Zealand it's not very popular. The Apple TV is a well polished product and works very well with other Apple Devices. Many people have a movie library through Apple Movies so it makes sense to do it all through an Apple TV. I personally use it becuase it gives nice easy access to atmos titles and I'm an Apple User. If you're an Android user then a Chromecast with Google TV or Fire TV Stick 4k woud be best.

I just purchased the Q990B, connected to the Apple TV model A1625 (bought it a few years ago). Connected to my 12 year old TV but has ARC HDMI.
I’m all excited cos I switched from my BOSE 700 to this hoping to be able to enjoy full Atmos sound system. are use Netflix because I was told that if I have it set up correctly, the movie itself or show Atmos or 5.1.
I think I did get a glimpse of Atmos in the display in Netflix, but soon it all turned to 5.1 instead.
Was wondering if you can help me what have I done wrong?
Hey, I have the 95t 2020 tv and this 990b soundbar, I see you connected it true WiFi, should I connect it true wifi or e arc? And does wifi even give dolby atmos? Also, I see bo option to click Dolby Atmos as sound mode no matter how I connect it? (When I press the i button twice it says multi channel eArc?)

Recently bought the S95BA TV Q990B together all I can say is perfection unbelievable sound and picture!!!
I just purchased the jbl 9.1 a few days ago .. would you say this is better ? The subwoofer on the jbl I really like but at times when im playing video games it can be too boomy and cuts off high frequencies. Would you highly recommend this over the jbl ?
I prefer the sound of the Q990B over the JBL 9.1. If you check out my 9.1 review I talk about a way to combat the extra bass. I don't know if it's worth an extra $500. If I was buying one for the first time i'd definitely spend $500 more on the Q990B but since you already have the 9.1 I suppose it depends on if you're happy with the sound or not. If not then I think you'd be happier with the 990B... It's a really great sounding bar.

Got it at home. Alexa doesn't work with Spotify, even though both technologies are onboard. They can't interact. That's a major disappointment and makes me return by system.
I've got q800B about a week ago, I plugged my fire tv stick in soundbar itself and got another HDMI in ARC ports of TV and Soudbar respectively. I'm getting dolby atmos in demo mode of fire stick but not able to get it in any netflix (have premium account) or amazon prime movies having atmos audio. can you please help me out with what's wrong. :)

How bad is the disconnection issue ? I’d rather have a bit less atmos affect (sonos) than a system which keeps dropping connection and keep me frustrated.
I have had zero disconnect issues. Seems to be specific to some users and not all
It happened quite a bit for me while I was testing it but I had a metal bench next to it and it was 5 meters away from the bar. I think it'll be unit specific and dependant on the room. I suppose you can always return it if it doesn't work in your place.
You can connect a second sub as long as it’s the same model. You can order a second sub but you need to tell them that its a replacement. And to connect them hold ID set and hold up on the remote

Sonos is feeling like an archaic system with no rear up firing speakers .. sure they will launch it some day and u can then add or replace but I would not suggest buying something for future promise.. I will buy a system in 2 months .. It will be either Q990B or HT-A9

I have jbl 9.1 for 3 years and thought it was great except dialogue was not all that clear in action scenes . I had power spike in a storm and shorted the sound bar. I seen all reviews on the q900b so I decided to purchase purely because of better dialogue from the samsung. I must say the jbl is a far better over all then the samsung except for dialogue. The samsung base and surround rear speakers limited on lower levels unless you start turning up the volume . jbl bass was punchy and vibrating all the way through the sound stage and the rears have more volume then the samsung. Now I wished I waited until the new jbl 2023 madels1300 and 1000, come out at the end of feburary .

Mate can you do a sound proof or deadening video please. IE: So I can watch a movie or listen to music later at night with out P....ing off the neighbours or other people in the house. I don't expect cone of silence just something that takes a nice chunk of sound away if your outside the room. cheers.

I have the Q950A and will upgrade to this new bar when my older one kicks the bucket.
I've had the Q990b for over a month and a half now and I absolutely love it. For what it's worth, I have it paired with an LG C1 oled that I bought at the same time, and I can verify that the soundbar volume can be controlled with the LG remote, at least when connected via eArc. The volume level shows on the screen as well. Haven't tried any other input methods though.
I also do not have any connection issues between the rears and the bar. The distance between them is about 12-15 ft. Has been absolutely flawless so far.
For context I live in a condo in Toronto, Canada.
I am looking also for a 990B for my C1. Would you say it’s a worthy soundbar ?
@@captain7091 Absolutely! It pairs perfectly with my C1. I guess the main downsides are that you can't take advantage of Q-Symphony and also if you are using the C1 with its stand like me, the soundbar blocks a tiny sliver at the bottom of the tv screen. Like maybe an inch or less. Bothered me a little at first but I don't notice it anymore really.
Eventually though I might put a flat piece of wood just slightly bigger than the footprint of the stand to elevate the tv just above the soundbar.
Other than that it works flawlessly with the C1 👍
Ayyy, I too am in T.O and have an LG OLED (CX). I have the 950A. Can u do me a favour? Do you have an xbox series x? When i use my series x and run everything through eArc to my Q950a and have the xbox set to dolby atmos, there is audio lag. Does the Q990B have that issue??

I too purchased the Q990b, but I feel I am not able to extract full juice from it. The bass is very mild compared to other Soundbars I tested, like JBL 9.1, etc.
About you saying SmartThings app takes up to 20 second to connect, for me it's 2-3 sec.
I hope next year's model will be 11.2.4 or at least allow it as an option
HDMI 2.1, 4k 120 Hz, vrr, allm and all gaming goodies for next yr hopefully 😁

for amateur home theatre room would you recommend this over professional setup of dolby atmos which will cost 2-2.5x of this?

The Alexa isnt voice activated, you need to hold down the button left of the volume down button. What’s the point

Thanks for the very very useful review, I was able to get the complete information for Q990B and purchased the same very recently 2 days ago.
Samsung Q990b is really a flagship model could hear every little bit of sound from it and totally impressed with the atmos performance.
I have connected it with my Samsung AU8000 65" TV through HDMI EARC to ARC input of the sound bar. I have downloaded a few sample videos from the internet for ATMOS contents sample files. But mostly i get a message on the TV which says Audio format is not supported could you please help on the same is there some specific settings for this.
I used to have this problem to. Unfortunately it’s the TV. It seems like the signal is read by the tv first and detects it’s not playable.
You can change TV audio output Setting is Passthrough.

Excellent review, Ive got an older Sony TV which only has ARC (not eARC). It has got optical out. If I connect the optical out from the TV to the Samsung Q990B would it then give me true Dolby Atmos?. Keep the videos coming. Regards Kevin
What is your media source TV? Then none of the Streaming services support lossless formats (eg; true HD), they support Atmos DD+ which is a lossy format and is fine for ARC. With an older TV ensure Audio Passthough has been enabled, so the formats are sent straight to the soundbar.
If you have an older TV a very cost effective upgrade is to consider a device like an Amazon 4k Firestick and plug this directly into the sound bar.
The single firestick remote will control everything, and the apps (Netflix, Plex, Prime, ect..) are so much faster than even on the latest Sony TVs.
While you can plug the firestick into a HDMI port on the TV in your case, if you are concerned about the TV not supporting a particular audio format, this takes this out of the equation.
PS: Whatever you do, don't use the optical out, standard ARC has higher bandwidth and supports more audio formats, less sync issues ect.

hi, Great Video ! Can you also let me know how does this bar stand against Sony HT-A9 ? Is it better or HT-A9 beats every soundbar in the market?
Got rid of my A9's and now have this and don't regret it. Center was too weak on the Sony and it's not very good on normal TV and RUclips content etc. Needs good feed like disks or uhd streaming to really perform and isn't very good on low volumes. Samsung on the other hand goes VERY loud but is also super detailed on low volumes. Found the Atmos content to be on par with both.

@@S1mmz Just wanted to know from you , whether the ATMOS feel in sony Hta9 is at par with Q990B. Also the 360 spatial mapping of sony is at par with spacefit technology claimed by samsung. If so , than q990b is an obvious choice at half the price........Please let me know as you have experienced both the systems.
@@drsatyam29 Sony's tuning is better than spacefit, however it's still not perfect and you have no control over the channels to adjust them. Samsung you can control the channels, so with a SPL meter you can tune them perfectly to the same level for better clarity.
Sony, you can make the sound stage wider as you can put the speakers further apart (fronts), however the center channel is really weak and the biggest downside of the product. Seeing how 70% of the sound comes from the center channel, it was the thing I hated the most. Samsung the center channel is really clear and strong and it also goes very loud. Sony on low levels is really poor also, where as the Samsung is still very detailed on low volumes.
Atmos levels I found they were the same on both devices with no clear winner, although as per first comment you can adjust the channels to make the heights better on the Samsung.
However as I've always stated, work works for my room, may not work for you...
But no the Sony is not worth the extra money as I found the Samsung to be better.
