Felt incomplete without Sony HT A7000 in comparison with others as it's a soundbar in the same price range with a lot of hype. Hope you will compare them soon.
I did the Sonos Beam 2, Sub Mini and two rears/sides for my bedroom and the Samsung Q990B for my main media room. They both blow me away in their respective spaces.
This LG soundbar, and the others ones in its series, got a firmware update to allow true hdmi 2.1 video passthrough on them, making them the only atmos soundbars out now that can do this and brings the value proposition up immensely for me. Im talking 4k, 120hz, VRR, ALLM, HDR all at once.
I was expecting this so much! Thanks dude, you put a lot of quality in these videos. I have passed from many differents bars: Arc -> Sony HT-7000-> Samsung Q990B -> Senheisser Ambeo. Since I bought a projector and my sofa is in the corner, the rears speakers never did a good match for my room, so the Ambeo was the candidate, and oh my god, what a majesty of quality! Greetings from Chile
Thank you Manuel! I really appreciate you kind words. Yeah, the Ambeo is an absolute weapon! Well worth the money for those wanting the best from a soundbar. Enjoy 😊
Hi, nice to see someone who tried so many and settled to sennheiser ambeo. One question: would you rate ambeo better than all of the above soundbars in terms of stereo music quality?
I appreciate Josh's time ⏲️ 2 15 AM recording. Once Again man very informative and thanks for including an audio file 😀 👍. This films help me decide which one to purchase
I went with Sonos Beam 2, sub mini and surround ones which I move them to other rooms occasionally. This is fantastic sound for music listening and TV viewing. Great solution for my townhouse.
Thanks Josh, Great tech reviews and you manage to get to what you want to know and elements that I hadn't even thought of. Replacing a aging Onkyo/Quad 5.1 AV system. Hoping to find something that can come close in performance.
Which is the best for playing music as well? Such as rock and all kinds of other music? Update. I ended up getting a Sony 55 A95k and a sonos arc S2 soundbar with a sonos gen 3 sub. TV is amazing and the sonos is the best surround sound system I ever owned. Music sounds fantastic with this system as well.
Thanks for the kind words. I think for the majority of Soundbar buyers they just want to know what’s the best soundbar, buy it and then they don’t care about watching more content about them. I’ve been thinking lately about branching out further than just Soundbars and looking at other speakers. Still gotta do more thinking around what that looks like so we’ll see 😊
Hi All, where i live the Sennheiser Ambeo max and Samsung q990b is offered at the same price roughly around 1100 USD. My room size is small around 10/12 ft. Can i go with Ambeo does it provide 360 surround sound. I am looking only for the atmos experience for watching movies I am also willing to add a sub later. My tv is Sony A80J. Please suggest me the best option between two. The Sennheiser is missing rear speakers which q990 has that is my worry.
You should compare Ambeo Max with Yamaha YSP5600, Yamaha is 7.1.2, which is very spacious and has crisp crystal immersing sound with 48 speakers inbuilt. On the other hand, Ambeo is 5.1 with 13 speakers, Still now sure how good it is against Yamaha which is almost 8 years old soundbar now.
I have an older surround system using 1 Newer Polk Audio Center Speaker, 2 Bose 701 Front Speakers, 2 501 Bose Rear Speakers and a Sony Stereo Receiver. I also have a cheap small subwoofer. The Bose speakers are at least 20 years old. I got them for free from a friend. How would a newer system with a sound bar and wireless rear speakers compare?
Great review! It is incredible that the old Ambeo is still the best in the market! I have the Q990 and I am absolutely amazed by the sound of it, but now I am very curious to listen to the Ambeo! Sonos without any additional arc input is not even an option for me.
Thanks Antonino! I've had a very busy week putting this video together... yesterday I worked 20 hours on it with very little sleep. So happy to get it finally done 😁 Yeah the Ambeo is a beast! Even after listening to the Ambeo I still enjoy the Q990B. Samsung has made a great bar.
It's not incredible, rather predictable and expected as a result of its size, output power and cost/quality of drivers. You can easily beat the Ambeo for much less money by using traditional speakers. Stack something like 2x Chora 806 1x Chora centre, SBS1000 sub, plus some entry level Denon amp and the Ambeo will sound very pathetic in comparison.
Preciate the hard work. It would be impossible for me to compare all these sound bars. I've have 3 different setups the last couple years. Felt like I upgraded each time.
What brand and model HDMI cables do you use? Nakamichi is the way to go. I have the downsized LG S90QY w/ rear speaker kit and i regret not getting the QR due it already including the rear speakers. Also, i regret not getting New condition so i could have the mounting brackets because my tv-mounted soundbar is starting to droop. I've never had a problem with Sennheiser products, even their earbuds and headphones are superb!
When you setup the sub on the Ambeo did you use the wireless Klipsch setup or did you use RCA's to set it up? One person I spoke with said he couldn't get the sub to work with the Ambeo
Great comparison, and a plus for the non biased reviews, since you buy them. I'm planning to get the Ambeo, hovewer the other option is the Samsung which sells for exactly half the price. Question: you think the Ambeo is worth twice the price? I'm interested in music listening as well, I listen to alot of jazz, rock and metal. Thanks!

I bought a Q990B for €900 last week. Can't beat that. Marginally better sound in some ways (but worse in others) for €600+ extra really isn't worth it in any way (since any other high-end soundbar setup costs at least €1500, assuming you use it 2-4 speakers and a subwoofer).
Digger456437 You rather casually gloss over possible Samsung Q99OB rear speaker drop outs when paired with a Samsung TV. Mine is paired with an 85" Samsung QN8595 QLED TV. It was thought changing the connections from HDMI eARC to HDMI ARC and adding an Optical cable would resolve this problem. @@06dame27 in my opinion, yes. Doesn’t have rears, but the DSP from Sennhieser’s AMBEO technology is really good, you can hear sound from the sides occasionally especially with lossless audio. I like having the option to choose from any third party sub, a real sub will output deeper bass and makes a difference. And the bigger driver size gives you much more clarity and detail. The tonality is the best I’ve heard from any soundbar. It’s all about personal preference though.
@@TravionMusic The option to expand the Sonos system is what drew me in. They only I haven't done it run TruPlay because I don't have an iPhone. Curious if that will make a difference.
Just picked up the Q910B for $600. I saw your opinions on the 910B in comparison to the 30/90 but I just can't pass up the value. Its less than half the price of the 990B but offers 80% of the performance
I’ve seen you are across the ditch. I’ve emailed nakamichi seeing if they’ll do an Aussie release of the dragon Unfortunately not at this stage was the reply. So If you end up trying to import one can you touch base cause I’d love to own one myself. Cheers
Sweet. Well in my rectangular room the surround effects were really convincing. I would give the Ambeo a go. I’ve only tried it with the klipsch sub which was plenty in my room. You could also have a look at the KEF KC62 or many of the SVS subs.
If they would come up with a 5.1.4 soundbar with rear speakers that connect to a wireless subwoofer LIKE I ALREADY HAVE, BUT with the ability to detach the hight speakers and mount them on the ceiling. It would be easy to drill a whole in the wall and run the speaker wires behind the wall up to the hight speakers. Or you could just let the wires dangle if you're lazy. Either way I don't see why they haven't already done this. I have a 5.1.4 soundbar system and it would be so easy for them to allow for the hight speakers to be detachable. Even if I had to buy my own wire.
The best system is the HT-A9 from Sony. Best soundbar is the Sennheiser Ambeo. The rest are really good but don’t compare. I own the HW-990C and I’m happy with it for my place. It’s $1000 less than the HT-A9 and Ambeo.
Samsung and Sonos don't belong in the same sentence...Samsung is inferior. Samsung soundbars are plagued by connection issues...just read the reviews on Best Buy and Amazon. Sonos Arc is rated higher and has a way better subwoofer
@@lamar310 the problem with Sonos is that it is not very flexible, like there is just one hdmi port, if you want great sound from it you should have a top end tv or you are not getting top end sounds. Samsung you get great options like even if you have a low end tv you can connect firestick or apple tv and get a good sound and the connectivity issue is not with everybody it's about the distance if you read all the reviews. And also Sonos some people in their reviews have written as over rated.
@Mark Winston sonos is. I have two samsung hw990bs and sent the second one in for repair 3 times! What a nightmare. I got a Sonos now and am so happy I have no dropouts.
Hello, I did enjoy your video but I can’t help wonder why you did not include either the Sony HT 5000.1 or the HT 7000.1 with their arrears at optional subs in this comparison. I work at the very best of tech knowledge, G retail stores if you catch my pond, so I get to play with all of these toys all day long. The Sonos arc cannot keep up with even the Sony 5000.1 without becoming distorted playing the same exact song/file. Once you reach a certain volume level is embarrassing quite frankly. And don’t get me wrong. I think someone else is a very cool technology, but it is ideally created and more suited for multi room speakers, the arc does not come close to a fair fight versus the Sony HTA 5000.1 which should’ve definitely been involved in this video and that’s not even their highest and one again I demoed these for customers all day long. This would’ve been a awesome awesome video. How do you included the Sony lineup so I could hear what your thoughts were. Anyway great job thanks for putting the cotton out there please consider including either the Sony HTA 5000.1 or the Sony HT 7000.1 with their subwoofers which cost much less than any of the other ones and sound just as good if not better and the rears wear that you have two options one of which has a firing speakers and you could take outside during a party because while you listen to them, the battery recharge is for nine hours. Anyway, I’m not being a troll. I’m just offering some respect or criticism. That’s the word I’m looking for, but I would’ve loved to of seen this video and your thoughts for them. Keep up the great work though I subscribe now.
You may not be a troll but did you think that these sets are very expensive he may not have been able to have all of them? Since you work where you work, why don’t you make the video? You almost sound like you work for Sony. Anyway, the one positive about your long rant is that I’ll be looking into those Sony sound bars. 😂😂
u saying that the ambeo and sonos bass is “thighter” than the samsung is nonsense, a big built in subwoofer with samsungs intergation beats any soundbar without a external sub
That’s Algood. There’s a few reasons: 1. If your TV can’t pass through an Atmos signal (ie it doesn’t have an HDMI eARC port) then you can plug in your blu ray player straight into the soundbar to give you Atmos and bypass the TV’s inadequacies. You would still plug an HDMI cable from your TV to sound bars Arc ports to send the video back to the TV. 2. Most TV’s only have 3-4 HDMI ports which for some people aren’t enough. The HDMI in ports on the soundbar expands that so you can plug in extra devices. 3. It can be easier to get to the HDMI ports if your TVs wall mounted and the soundbar is on the cabinet. Check out this video for more details: ruclips.net/video/c5ZtRA1xHEI/видео.html I hope that clears it up 😊
Thank you very much for the info and the link. My television is a Sony A80J that I got about a year ago and there are plenty 0f HDMI ports for my needs. I did ask a question about the Sony A 7000 soundbar. Why didn’t it make your list? With it being their flagship model I would think it would be on anyone’s list.
@@archwaytech thanks for the reply. I'm ambeo user wanted to upgrade Bose 900 full system. Is it worth ? The only reason I'm going with bose is my ambeo surround sound is disappointing due to my room shape. Since bose has phase guide tech and no side firing speakers it should work well in my room. I had the Samsung. I send it back since the sub was not good and the sound was flat. It was worse than my old Harman AVR with SB10. Maybe I was unlucky and got a bad product but tbh the sound was underwhelming. Should I give the bar 1000 a chance or should I stick with AVR?
I own a samsung q950a. l listened to bose 900 a few weeks ago . I was disappointed . I did my best to tune its sound to get the best harmonic sound but in vain. The design is good, but not the sound quality that leaves your ears aching.
these are the best systems in order 1/Nakamichi Dragon 2/samsung 990b 3/Sony HTA9 (let down by poor dialogue and no sub ) But best surround sound of them all. 4/Sonos Arc system 5LG Dont bother at all
Samsung soundbars are known for connection issues...just read the reviews on the Samsung website. Once you add a subwoofer to a Sonos soundbar...it makes soundbars and subwoofers by Samsung, Sony, and LG sound cheap cuz their subwoofers are trash
Bose can't compete with the likes of Bowers and Wilkins and Sennheiser. But it also depends on the music you're listening. For clasical, rock or jazz muzic I don't like the bose sound stage so much...
@@alingrecu1317 I have the Bowers and Wilkins zeppelin, so fully agree. But I also have Bose surround sound. The Bose is excellent and came highly recommended. @hugalvarez5277 yeah the atmos was really good but it has a very heavily processed sound and barely any midrange. You can hear how when someone like David Attenborough speaks that it comes off as really weak. I have tried the Sonos Arc and Samsung now, not sure what to try next.
@@tomdrums4607 the tv u use also matters. If you are using Sony Tv, expect disappointments in working with the soundbars of different brands. It seems like Sony designs its TVs to work in perfect harmony with sony soundbars. The q950a worked perfectly with Hisense TVs and Samsung TVs. U need to mind the sound output option. Hisense will offer PCM, DOLBY DIGITAL, DOLBY DIGITAL PLUS, and PASSTHROUGH. On the Samsung q990b, u needed to choose the ADAPTIVE sound mode. U wouldn't be disappointed

The Q990B is better. It's unbelievable.
@@06dame27 trueplay in my opinion does make a difference
Just picked up the Q910B for $600. I saw your opinions on the 910B in comparison to the 30/90 but I just can't pass up the value. Its less than half the price of the 990B but offers 80% of the performance
Yeah fair enough. I can imagine it’s still a really good Soundbar, especially for the price. Enjoy it 😊
I’ve seen you are across the ditch.
I’ve emailed nakamichi seeing if they’ll do an Aussie release of the dragon Unfortunately not at this stage was the reply.
So If you end up trying to import one can you touch base cause I’d love to own one myself.
Cheers
Here's a reco, you should have the names of the sounds bars in the chart, it's not like I can tell which is which from the look of them.
I was looking at the and 990b but now the ambeo and sub looks really good. Do you think not having rears are a big deal?
What’s the layout of your room? Is it rectangular or more odd shaped?
Rectangular.
Also, which sub would you recommend
Sweet. Well in my rectangular room the surround effects were really convincing. I would give the Ambeo a go. I’ve only tried it with the klipsch sub which was plenty in my room. You could also have a look at the KEF KC62 or many of the SVS subs.
Klipsch R-100SW Subwoofer 10 inch $349
How would ambeo/arc & sub work with a rectangular room and the back wall open into the kitchen?
Went with the AMBEO. Hyped for it. I would have a full setup but just does not fit in my space. AMBEO is exactly what I was looking for
Solid choice!!
My room is 20ft x 11ft. Is this too small for an Ambeo do you think?
Curious to see an ambeo & sub vs an arc & 2 sub setup
Don't sleep on Nakamichi. They released the upgraded e-arc version. 1300 watts. Silk dome tweeters and subs go down to 20 Hz.
yeah but still wired rear speakers, and no 'true' atmos speakers.
I heard Q990b has many disconnection issues. This makes me stop to purchase one Q990b. Other, I would love to have one this year.
The new Bose soundbar 600 is definitely great for the price of 609$ cad
I guess you're better with receiver and speakers. I think the whole idea of a soundbar is to just have maximum a sub attached to it...
Wireless heights would be nice, slide them out of the bracket and charge them before a movie. No wires, no mess.
I think at least having 2 extra speakers for front heights would make a soundbar standout
Awesome ! Great job!
Thanks man 😀
Great comparison! I have a Q990b and for movies in Dolby Atmos as well as for games with PS5 it is phenomenal.
Thanks 😊 Yeah the Q990b is a great Soundbar
The best system is the HT-A9 from Sony. Best soundbar is the Sennheiser Ambeo. The rest are really good but don’t compare. I own the HW-990C and I’m happy with it for my place. It’s $1000 less than the HT-A9 and Ambeo.
Sonos Arc 5.1 or Samsung Q990B? Please suggest.
Samsung
@@lamar310 stop talking like the Sonos is a way superior product. Dont play yourself that hard.
I think he buys them instead of being sent a set to review, so it takes abit longer but worth it🙌🏾
You may not be a troll but did you think that these sets are very expensive he may not have been able to have all of them? Since you work where you work, why don’t you make the video? You almost sound like you work for Sony. Anyway, the one positive about your long rant is that I’ll be looking into those Sony sound bars. 😂😂
Why did you not include Bose 900? It is a top notch sound bar.
I talk about the Bose at the end of the video
Bose sucks. It's overrated
u saying that the ambeo and sonos bass is “thighter” than the samsung is nonsense, a big built in subwoofer with samsungs intergation beats any soundbar without a external sub
Great effort 👌
Cheers 😊
Check out the new Ambeo Soundbar Plus.
Not to appear “technology challenged” but why would I plug my bluRay player directly to the soundbar? Shouldn’t it be plugged into the television?
That’s Algood. There’s a few reasons:
Check out this video for more details:

I hope that clears it up 😊
Thank you very much for the info and the link. My television is a Sony A80J that I got about a year ago and there are plenty 0f HDMI ports for my needs. I did ask a question about the Sony A 7000 soundbar. Why didn’t it make your list? With it being their flagship model I would think it would be on anyone’s list.
genuine question, why is all reviews about the samsung 990 when they have released the 995 which has been out for a while now?
They are the same system… The Q995b is sold in some European countries. There’s no difference between them to my knowledge.
@@archwaytech youre right, googled it earlier and its as you say. Thank you
Sonos beam or Bose 600??
I’d go the Beam Gen 2.
Nice review. Why no bose 900?
Thanks man. I had to sell it to get in the other soundbars.
Pls let me know your thoughts?
If you added the Q930b it would have ranked better than some of the more expensive alternatives, especially at the $900 sales right now.
Just got 1 for $975 cad. Sounds great.
@@ah4800 Yeah it's really under-rated. All these review channels focus all their time on the very high end or low end devices.
Lol I live in a tight NYC apartment so it will be difficult for me to choose besides am. an android heaven user and unfortunately, the Sonos doesn't have android functionality
I picked up Q990b today for $1350 Oz makes it a no brainer compared to others. Sounds great with no drops outs so far.
I experienced drop outs. Returned it.
Crazy price! We have it for about 890$! Thinking about to buy it, but I still don't trust soundbars! :)))
@@Loftrocket I love mine adds so much to TV and movies. I also use it for music it's even good at that.
@@Loftrocket that is a ridiculous price, we have it here for 615 USD in Thailand.
I would like to hear how the Bose 900 matches up against them
I have the 900 and is not what I thought it would be now ima return it and try either the Samsung or Sonos
Why no JBL 9.1 ?
After watching this video, I am going for Bose 900
Solid Choice 😊
I own a samsung q950a. l listened to bose 900 a few weeks ago . I was disappointed . I did my best to tune its sound to get the best harmonic sound but in vain. The design is good, but not the sound quality that leaves your ears aching.
Black Friday special on the sonos arc $1193 aud, $300 off.
Great Price 😀
Confused all mixed up.
these are the best systems in order
1/Nakamichi Dragon
2/samsung 990b
3/Sony HTA9 (let down by poor dialogue and no sub ) But best surround sound of them all.
4/Sonos Arc system
5LG Dont bother at all
None of those soundbars can compare to the Sony HT-A9 as far as performance goes.
Samsung soundbars are known for connection issues...just read the reviews on the Samsung website. Once you add a subwoofer to a Sonos soundbar...it makes soundbars and subwoofers by Samsung, Sony, and LG sound cheap cuz their subwoofers are trash
At twice the price id hope it would be better. Cant beat the value of the sammy 930b 9.1.4 for under 1k
No Bose?? Most audio techs will tell you bose is a better quality speaker.
I was told lots of companies struggle to match the sound and power produced by Bose speakers. Often imitated and copied over the years. Plus additional speakers (Subs etc) are often required to match the Bose.
@@skye1868, Zeppelin is also on my list, but Ambeo is first, need a soundbar faster than a Bluetooth speaker. BOSE can't compete as a standalone soundbar with the Ambeo. And the fact that I need rear speakers kind of destroys the soundbar idea, If I need adițional speakers I will always choose avr and dedicated speakers...
I dont know how you can say the ambeo is the best for movies when it doest even have satellite speakers.
It looks like he is bias towards Sonos because he owns one.
The best soundbar is the Q990B hands down the best atmos performance I've ever heard from a soundbar setup. Sonos doesn't even come close.
Frequent disconnections of rears and subwoofer. Bought and returned it for this reason

I bought the Samsung hw-q995b and returned it. Really has no mid range and is terrible for music, also voices in movies had no weight.. Any one tested the Klipsch 1200 against it? I really want to try have a minimalist setup and get rid of my hi-fi system.
What is the best hifi replacement soundbar?
Soundbar it’s not especially made for listen music. Normally it’s for see movies concrete Dolby atmos. Q990b it’s the best in this point
@hugalvarez5277 yeah the atmos was really good but it has a very heavily processed sound and barely any midrange. You can hear how when someone like David Attenborough speaks that it comes off as really weak. I have tried the Sonos Arc and Samsung now, not sure what to try next.
Have you tried the Ambeo?
@@archwaytech no not yet. Can you get a subwoofer and satellites for it?
This guy does not mention, that the sonos arc does not do Dts. DTS IS BETTER ON MOST MOVIES !!! It a software issue with sonos arc. I WOULD NEVER OWN A SONOS, BECAUSE OF THIS. DO NOT BUY A SONOS !!! Long live blurays, with dts !!!!
Yep, that's why I choose a Philips Oled (beside Ambilight feature) over LG, because it has DTS decoding...
