We have a show in Australia called spicks and specks. Iva Davies was on and discussed that song. They wrote it and he was unsure it would be a hit. Daryl Hall told Iva “if you don’t want it Hall and Oates will take it and we’ll make it a number 1”. I still try to imagine what it would have been like to hear it as a Hall and Oates song and you know it would probably still work just as good because it’s really like one of their classic songs in the dna.
Another song that almost wound up being sung by Hall & Oates is "I Can Dream About You." But I wonder if the girl in the story recognized Oates. He was at the height of his popularity (and the charts) at the time.
Hey he forgot to mention the show Electric Blue- 80s porn (if you had a VCR and tried to tune it in you def remember these good old days) Electric Blue is and will always be my absolute fave song from the great 80s.. especially the extended version ♥️👌
Electric Blue is good, but I absolutely LOVE Crazy, which was the first single from that album (EB was the follow-up and a slightly bigger hit, it went Top 10 in the US, I think Crazy peaked at #12). I knew John co-wrote that with Iva, I never knew the back story. Very cool! Now I’d love to know how John’s She’s The Shape Of Things To Come came about and how it ended up on the About Last Night soundtrack…..
I always thought John & Iva watched one of those Electric Blue adult movies, and the song was about that. My dream is shattered. (I was thinking Electric Blue 16, that was a beauty).
I remember an interview where John says he got the name from a segment on the soft core porn channel called Spice and the name of the segment was called Electric Blue.
Electric Blue is a fantastic song. Close your eyes and you can see/hear Hall and Oates playing this one

I didn’t know that. That’s pretty cool and in my mind I can hear Daryl Hall singing that one.
