Just based on this review, I'd go for the Kwaker. I want to like the MT, but the styling is worse than my 2008 FZ-1, which I did like, but barely. I want to like the MT's sound, too, but don't. I think with my favorite Mivv resonators, the Kwak would sound great... and smooth. I think this model Z1000 is less insect-looking than some previous years. I'd probably get one in all black to mute that Sugomi stuff. If I did get an MT, I'd have to be able to fix that single-on low beam. If there are two lights there, both should be on at all times.
I test drove them both....I liked the Z1000 more , it looks better and felt really good on the road so i bought it, excellent choice no regrets love riding it everyday.
Love my mt-10, I picked it over the kwakka for a few reasons, If you shop around you can get a good deal, I got mine for $17,980 AUD ride away. A feature I wanted but didn’t really realise I needed until now riding my bike for three years is cruise control, I’d paid two grand extra for cruise control and I did. Such a smart feature on 1K bike, totally limits any chance of me speeding. Having riding modes is handy for wet weather and depending whether I’m tracking it or dragging it or running around town. I felt the overall build quality of the MT-10 felt better than the Kwakka. The cross plane motor had more character for me with that low V8 rumble, it felt less buzzy and smoother than the Kwakka. For a couple grand more you can get the ultimate comfort with the SP model having fully electric on the fly adjustable suspension like the BMW’s and an upgraded colour TFT dash with a long list of on the fly bike adjustment via the ipgraded computer, for things like power modes, suspension settings, throttle settings and gauge settings etc. However the crouching cat look of the Kawasaki it’s quite cool, but in the end all those on paper features definitely translated to a better bike in the real world for me.
I used to own a Z1000 and loved it. It has so much low end torque. The only thing I didn’t like was the flat tone the engine makes at lower revs. It just sounds a bit boring until you get the revs up, then it sounds amazing. I think the MT10 would sound better at low revs.
I’ve owned both of these bikes and the mt-10 is way better! Not only is it more comfortable because I’m 6 foot 6 inches, but the throttle control and the way it goes through corners is much better
I used to own a 2014 Z1000 and now I own my 2nd first gen FZ1. I absolutely love the FZ1, but I do believe it's time for me to buy an FZ10/MT10. The crossplane crack makes more sense for street riding and typical track days.

Oh my goodness this bike is the BEST tune responsive beast out there, it is so restricted to it's potential. I've seen over 25 HP gain because they don't open their ventures more than 80% over 8K RPM. Most bikes get maybe 10 HP.
Nice video mate! I own a 2021 MT10 and have ridden an older Gen Z1000 (In the US, Kawi discontinued the Z1000 from 2017 or so). Even the older gen Z1000 is damn good and it would have been a tough choice for me if the new Z1000 were still being sold here. Regarding the exhaust note on the MT10 - the idle note doesn't paint the full picture. The MT10 /R1 cross plain is pretty unique, and has a noticeable difference in tone after 50MPH or so. I enjoy it so much so that I am still riding it on stock exhaust with no temptation to go for an aftermarket one (as are a large number of MT10 owners based on forum discussions). Also, one thing worth mentioning in the review is the fuel economy and range along with the tank capacity stats. I get just about 30MPG on the MT10, which, combined with the fuel tank capacity, results in frequent fuel stops, which can get annoying on long rides. I do not know the MPG of the Z1000, but if it is similar to the MT10, then, this is definitely something to keep in mind if anyone is in the market for either of these two bikes.
I did all this research too and test rode both bikes and went with the Z1000.... I love it! The MT10 seemed a bit twitchy in the throttle and that front tire wanted to leave ground very easy. I'd be interested to see a side by side launch.
Ride both ,engine smoothness z1000(flatplane I4) engine power mt10(x-plane I4), styling z1000, features and tech mt10 Overall i prefer the z1000 due to its pricepoint.
I own an MT-10 and its superb, it's better looking than the kawasaki to. I'm surprised the MT-10 frame and cross plane engine weren't discussed more. The handling and delivery of power is grin factor 10. My mate has a Z1000 and wants an MT-10. I think the kawasaki is a bit behind the times with this bike.
Z1000 definitely is the best looking naked bike for me, but finally I still choose the MT10 with spending thousands more. Is only because new yammie has 6 axis IMU, make me feel safer overall on road( and I’m not that experienced rider), Yamaha has a better screen (23 version) and a more unique sound. But Kawi looks better for me and should be more reliable because it’s so raw. I wish I can have them both in the future if I got enough room in garage. But z1000 is something that new riders can’t handle, and it’s using more than 10 yr old technology, so have to keep it in mind, it’s a dangerous animal.
Had my MT10 over 4 years. The cruise control is something I wouldn't give away, plus the proper passenger seat with the comfort option. Wheel up, well only if you ride it that way. You can get the acceleration, and wow that's something without raising the front wheel with no compromise if you want to. I find it forgiving and easy to ride despite it's hoon reputation, and yes when it's appropriate I ride it hard. Great two up with the comfort seat and my own designed passenger peg extensions. Brilliant bike, I keep looking for a replacement, haven't been close to tempted yet.
Bought a new z1000 in 2018 as a backup touring bike for my aging high mileage mt09 which got written off a few months later and then bought mt10, 2 plus years and 25k miles later I've chopped the mt10 for the new 2021 mt09, test rode it today and fell in love but will miss the mt10, need a bigger garage!
Z1000 old school muscle naked bike. MT-10 modern, fairly practical, can be tracked (only rear sets needed). Z1000 better craftsmanship and finish. MT-10 better everything else.
I love this comprehensive review. I'm planning to upgrade to a Z1000 by the end of this year and this is very informative. New subscriber here from MotoRossPh. Ride safe bro!
being an owner of an mt-10. i can say that with the traction control on the highest setting, the bike is not front happy! only power wheelies at high rpm. not like it lifts the nose at every acceleration lol. good vid!
The Kwak for the styling and price. The power you can sort out yourself with tuning, probably for less money than you'd be paying for the factory spec Yam.
I just got my Raven Black 2021 and it is super bad ass. I'm in love with her. My yamaha has 160hp so just saying. I am in the US Arizona to be exact. Mine was 12,999 USD
z1000 has "R" model since 2018. Comes with steel brake lines. Brembo M50 and rotors in front and Ohlines rear suspension. With these upgrades, bikes are not comparable!
Yamaha MT-10 sp is my personal choice. I don't mind paying a little extra to get a lot more, if you know what I mean. Ohlins suspension on the SP model just tips the scales in the Yammies favour for me. I'm 62, and it will certainly be a bit different to my 2006 VFR800 when I buy it soon!! Thanks mate, great comparison video. Subbed and a BIG like. Well done and G'day from Nth Qld. Ride well.
Got a leftover 2018 MT10 for $9,800 USD. Can’t beat that on price with the performance and tech IMO. Both amazing bikes though. Cruise control and the extra 20 ponies is what sold me on the Yamaha though 😎
Wait to put things into perspective, z is 145 hp, 212 kg(feels like 150kg bcoz its COM is soo balanced to perfection), top speed is 260+ (z800 goes to 256 just for reference) and it has not been redesigned after 2017 so basically its like comparing 2017 bike vs 2021 bike
The Z1000 has disappeared from the UK Kawasaki website, it has also pretty much vanished from dealerships too. Wether it returns having received the z900 treatment or is withdrawn completely is yet to be seen... I hope they don't kill it off..
These are perfect super nakeds. They have fat fuel tank flanked by the air intakes that give them a macho, fat muscular look. Transformer on the front, an aggressive snake head look and the lamps are the eyes of the transformer. However the Z1000 is the best choice for its dragon transformer design and cheaper price. You are marvelous, Kawasaki & Yamaha.
I own the yamaha mt10 best bike I've ever been on, blistering fast and crazy nimble. Can't help but smile riding it. Now I'm 6'6'' and 285lbs, I'm compfortable on the mt10. where the z1000 seemed like it was a smaller bike. Although I haven't driven a z1000 I just sat on one in the showroom.
@@Kwackajack yes my size makes it difficult sometimes, I also own a dr650 currently. I've been on many different bikes through the years from zx14, niken, r1, r6, 1000rr, busa's all were fun bikes but MT-10 takes the cake. Not the fastest but the wildest in the low end.
You guys are marvelous. Get more of this similarly great video please. Amongst all the nakeds, I still say the Kawasaki Z series ie the Z800, Z900 and Z1000 are stunning, it looks macho with the transformer head lamp and a fatty fuel tank, what more with the very reasonableprice it offers compared to its competitors. That should be the style and design of super muscle naked, meant for fun, easy and happy riding, daily use in towns and cities along the winding conering hilly roads. It is not for racing or on track, as the RR versions in all the brands are already meant for track.
I have had 3 fz1 Naked and 3 z1000 , 2003, and two 2008 I always said hands down the fz1 is the better bike by a mile. But just bought a 2015 one owner 5000 mine as new z1000 in black and green. Love the bike
I had a 2017 MT 10. Terribly twitchy. Too rough for traffic. I sold it and got a Z1000. Power is the same, but much more linear. I heard that in 2020 Yamaha learnt their lesson and smoothed out the throttle (I even installed a Throttle tamer but only 20% improvement). Yamaha has a lot more fans. To each its own.
I have a fully modded z1000 and have ridden an mt10. Stock for stock sound and performance go to the mt10. Once modded performance is greatly improved for both. Mt10 has the more modern electronics as well.
One running headlight is a safety issue. When you have 2 headlights on a motorcycle away night. It makes it appear as if it's a car approaching from very far.
Even though it might not make sense, I would love to make one of these bikes into a sports tourer. The styling of these bikes are far better than what I've seen on their 900cc counterparts. Just how bad is the mileage on these bikes? I want to know how many petrol-filled water bottles I need to keep in my backpack.
Good point, i've heard the mileage on the z1000 is about 15 kmpl, so with a 17L tank you'd be looking at about 250k's. But highway riding i'd say you'd get more. The MT-10 is apparently around the 10-15 kmpl range
I looked at z1000, GSXS1000 and S1000R. I do mostly touring and occasional track days. Z1000 looked good but I couldn't find a screen that suited it for touring. Plus 220+ kgs and 15ltr tank killed it for me. GSXS1000 had too many issues with throttle etc. Whether true or not I don't know. S1000R too uncomfortable. MT10 had screens, oem luggage etc for touring. But the reason I switched from my Aprillia 750 was I got to test one at Eastern Creek. And it was awesome. Went to the dealer a couple of weeks later with $2k cash in my pocket as a deposit. No regrets love it. Done 24k kms in 2years, weekend and holiday riding only.
I love my Z!! The MT10 is also an amazing bike. You can't go wrong with either. The z makes peak torque about 2k revs earlier so it's quicker off the bottom as a result. The MT has more top end and is no slouch from the bottom. Pick your poison
@@Kwackajack My favorite thing about the bike is the way the power is delivered. The Z literally has power everywhere. Whether that's zooming from a dead stop or 6th gear on the highway, if you twist the throttle the bike pulls pretty damn hard.. I've had the bike about a year now and the torque still surprises me sometimes.
Can’t believe the Yamaha is /was cheaper than the Kawasaki here in the USA …..? Was that a typo on screen or something? Cause if that’s the case 2k less for more is a no brainer, even if the mt has the ugly painted rims .can use the 2k savings to get em repainted a normal color
I am not sure about MT-10 since I did not try it yet... but my experience with Z1000 was underwhelming to be honest.😳👀.. Between Suzuki S750 (yes S750, but NOT S1000) and Z1000, I would choose S750. As a former lover (!?) of Ninja 650, it was such a surprise for me... 🙄
I am the same! I feel the bikes look unbalanced when only 1 light is illuminated! I have just bought one of these, sadly, i would like to go faster, so maybe i need to do a deal on a GSXR 1000? However, this bike is lighter, very responsive, but i do find it has a shorter turning circle, Thanks for the post!
video idea the Honda CB1000R Vs S1000R love to see more naked bikes competition or maybe challenging bikes that have the same engine like the S1000RR and Single R OR The cb1000r Vs the 2007 cbr(cuz they both have same engine and compare then) thanks
here in Philippines, the price comparo would be z1000 vs Mt09.. with almost 130,000 php difference, the kawasaki is a better value i think.. both have more power and feature for most riders
Glad you’re getting value from the comparisons! Hopefully it helps, but I believe the best thing you can do is sit on them in person. It can really change how you see/thing about a bike
I own a Kawasaki z1000 Sugomi.....and I got to tell you it is best of it's class....with a brutal design and truly attractive to look but the only problem is the wind blasting at higher speed like 180kmh and above....even adding a Visor in the front... problems with Naked Bikes
My question is, which one would you pick for a tall rider? I'm 6' & while im attracted to these bikes, I'm not interested in looking like I'm on a mini bike.
Would like to correct something in the video for those who are looking at the z1k, the rear shock is not ohlins, I had a 2016 z1000, so unless thats changed for the newer models, its still going to be a generic rear shock with preload and a comp/rebound combo screw. I threw that shock away within the first few months and replaced it with a mid range wilbers.
I like them both leaning towards the MT10 BUT like mentioned in this great review I dislike the whole one light look, so much I have been trying to find a fix to run both on low beam BEFORE I commit to buying one.
If only the kawi came with a crossplane ill take it in a heartbeat. Its the most beautiful naked bike right now, it looks even better than the newer zh2. But i value sound more than looks so my future purchase would be an mt10. If i had the money I'd own both.

best bike I've ever been on, blistering fast and crazy nimble. Can't help but smile riding it. Now I'm 6'6'' and 285lbs, I'm compfortable on the mt10. where the z1000 seemed like it was a smaller bike. Although I haven't driven a z1000 I just sat on one in the showroom.
Oh wow, it must be hard finding bikes that fit your ergonomics at 6'6"! What other bikes have you owned and how they did compare?
You were not aware of mods surely
I have a fully modded z1000 and have ridden an mt10. Stock for stock sound and performance go to the mt10. Once modded performance is greatly improved for both. Mt10 has the more modern electronics as well.
Z1000 small bike. I have mt10. Drive both. Completely different bikes. MT10 very strong bike.
I like to see ZH2 vs. MT 10
One running headlight is a safety issue. When you have 2 headlights on a motorcycle away night. It makes it appear as if it's a car approaching from very far.
I love both but that MT10 just has something extra with those lights.
If you want sports tourer get the ninja 1000 because it is a sports tourer.
@@ridewithjcvm6937 yep a straight sports tourer from the dealer
Definitely, Would love to hear more about your bike. What do you think is your favourite part about it?
@@Kwackajack My favorite thing about the bike is the way the power is delivered. The Z literally has power everywhere. Whether that's zooming from a dead stop or 6th gear on the highway, if you twist the throttle the bike pulls pretty damn hard.. I've had the bike about a year now and the torque still surprises me sometimes.
Yamaha all day!
Just sold my hooligan bike, a 2001 fZ1... needing a replacement.....MT 10 for the win!
Z1000 😍😍 I like mt10 but Kawasaki bike is just better and cheaper. Good video keep them coming!
I got a brand new 2018 MT10 0 miles on it for $9800. Can’t beat that on the price tbh with a super naked. Kawi is an absolute beaut though
They're both great bikes! In some areas the yamaha is cheaper but here in Aus the kawi is definitely less than the MT. Thanks for watching!
Can’t believe the Yamaha is /was cheaper than the Kawasaki here in the USA …..? Was that a typo on screen or something? Cause if that’s the case 2k less for more is a no brainer, even if the mt has the ugly painted rims .can use the 2k savings to get em repainted a normal color
one running headlight looks dumb when there's dual lights
MT-10 SP Revs my heart:P :D
MT-10 all the way
Ridden those roads on my HD Low Rider S. Looking at changing to a naked. I’d like the MT10 to have the current features of the MT09
I have 105th anniversary low rider also, gg get the z1000 for when I wanna go fast,, like the mt10 but the Kaws is sooo much cheaper
MT10 for sure
Thanks for including Philippine peso ❤️
Love my Filipino followers!
Z1000 all day I have a 07 version it still rips the street
MT-10 beauty and speed👍😊
It ain't pretty dude. It's butt ugly.
Quickshifter? Traction control? Mt10 all the way
I am not sure about MT-10 since I did not try it yet... but my experience with Z1000 was underwhelming to be honest.😳👀.. Between Suzuki S750 (yes S750, but NOT S1000) and Z1000, I would choose S750. As a former lover (!?) of Ninja 650, it was such a surprise for me... 🙄
Im a kawasaki fan but bought the mt10 a few months ago. Offers more bang for buck
MT10 for the WIN !
Kawa all the way without thinking twice!! Looks way more aggressive and sporty!
In Philippines z1000 is way more popular bcs of its price. And for MT series its MT09.
video idea the Honda CB1000R Vs S1000R love to see more naked bikes competition
or maybe challenging bikes that have the same engine like the S1000RR and Single R OR The cb1000r Vs the 2007 cbr(cuz they both have same engine and compare then)
thanks
Great idea mate! Thanks for watching leaving a suggestion 🙌🏻
here in Philippines, the price comparo would be z1000 vs Mt09.. with almost 130,000 php difference, the kawasaki is a better value i think.. both have more power and feature for most riders
i love MT's series bro 😀😀😀
Watch this video several times already just to decide which bike to buy.. 😊
Kwakka all day long👌💪👌
IF YOU WANT A 1000CC BIKE FOR REGULAR STREET AND ROAD USE THE BEST CHOICE IS THE CB1000R.... OTHER WISE THE AGGRESSIVE MT10
Kwakka for me, great looker, not too much power
I just love your verses vids awesome bro green team 😎
Im a yammie fan but i do love the insane h2 as well
My question is, which one would you pick for a tall rider? I'm 6' & while im attracted to these bikes, I'm not interested in looking like I'm on a mini bike.
Would like to correct something in the video for those who are looking at the z1k, the rear shock is not ohlins, I had a 2016 z1000, so unless thats changed for the newer models, its still going to be a generic rear shock with preload and a comp/rebound combo screw. I threw that shock away within the first few months and replaced it with a mid range wilbers.
Z1000R
I like them both leaning towards the MT10 BUT like mentioned in this great review I dislike the whole one light look, so much I have been trying to find a fix to run both on low beam BEFORE I commit to buying one.
Just bought the Z 1000 love it
If only the kawi came with a crossplane ill take it in a heartbeat. Its the most beautiful naked bike right now, it looks even better than the newer zh2. But i value sound more than looks so my future purchase would be an mt10. If i had the money I'd own both.
I got 2 bike now.
To me z1000 look better BUT mt10 is the 1 u want
