See this last half, all the sons of Ragnar evoke a personality that Ragnar had because they are not the man himself just parts of him. Bjorn the leader, Ivar the ruthless, Hvisterk the fighting, Ubbe the farmer. All of these are parts of just the one man that is their father. Not to say that they don’t have all some amounts of each, but they are dominant in one aspect that Ragnar was a whole to.

@@blucolife It’s because all the brothers (aside from Sigurd ofc) always watched over Ivar growing up, pretty much protecting him. Hvitserk jumped ship to “find himself” or “prove himself”, but in the end he sort of drifted into becoming Ivar’s personal guard since he saw what was coming. It all started with a simple line; “your eyes have turned deep blue, Ivar.” Ubbe always understood Ivar’s deep rage and violent nature, Hvitserk always understood his more fragile side, sorta like his lifeline, and always gave him shit for it. Ivar has always been afraid. His rage, his brutality, his egomania and his screaming defiance of death (that anyone who's ever been in a terrifying, me-or-them situation will understand was simply his method of amping himself up to face his fear) hid a confused, terrified child that, for its entire life, felt inferior to everyone around it. He wore his fury as a mask so his people would see the son of Ragnar Lothbrok, not the Boneless, but he wore it for so long he couldn't even remember what he felt like without it. In his dying moments, the mask comes off and we see the man Ivar could've been. Neither a saint nor a demon, but just a man. A man who was afraid, as we all are.

This scene leaves a message to the public, and it is that Ivar was perhaps the most violent, sadistic, strong, manipulative and intelligent Viking, who despite not being able to move his legs became a great leader and even called himself God. which was psyched that it was omnipotent. Yet a simple fearful and insecure warrior stabbed this idolized leader to death. This means that no matter how superior we may feel; Our end can come in the most insignificant way, and no matter how brave we are, fear will never go unnoticed by us, and that does not mean that we are weak, it means that we remain human.

I have a very different respect for this very scene. The character of Ivar, I believe, could see his beloved brother not make it out of this battle. Realizing this is where he loses everything he enters the battle to replace his brother. With everyone fixated on Hvitserk as the son of Ragnar, he moves in and starts screaming he is Ivar the boneless to get the attention shifted to him. Unlike season 5 this seemed more of a desperate cry than that of a mad man, instead of claiming he is here to kill them all he claims he is not afraid to die alone and that he would be feasting in Valhalla. the difference is subtle but if you play the two clips one after another you can really see it there. The actor is outstanding in the way he portrays the characters in two different scenarios with his subtle delicate change of tone, breath timing, breaks in the laugh, and expression.

Those who did not appreciate the ending did not understand anything about this TV series. I found it perfect as a conclusion, because at the end it is as if each child has brought forward an aspect of Ragnar.
Bjorn: unbeatable, he seems immortal until he die as a legend and hero just like his father.
Ivarr: underdog by everyone, like initially Ragnar who is only a farmer.
From a cripple he becomes a legend and like Ragnar he finds his death following his madness. And certainly the son who most of all inherited his great leadership and persuasion skills.
Hivsterk who betrays, plays double-crosses, becomes a drunkard, on drugs but who goes through a path of redemption and converts as Ragnar, taking the name of Athelstan, the character who perhaps most of all influenced his father's life.
Ubbe who abandons wars to become a farmer, traveler, discoverer and dreamer, the only one who, like Ragnar, is a true peacemaker of peoples.
With this conclusion we know that Ragnar stayed with us until the end! (Sorry I’m Italian)

Man this one scene was such an emotional ride. Ivar could’ve won this battle, but he saw how everyone was so fixated on killing a son of Ragnar that he couldn’t let his brother be killed, so he brought all the attention on himself.
The part where they make it look like Ivar is possessing his soldiers makes this scene so much more impactful. Each time he looked at someone, the camera went into slow motion and made a sound like he was taking control of them, and each time his eyes got a little more blue

one of the most beautiful scenes ever produced. Ivar the Boneless, transitions over the past decade and becomes a good man. Sacrifices himself for the sake of his brother (yes this is what happens here, he knows the outcome prior to his limps onto the battlefield). Really amazing stuff here. I have watched every episode since his existence on this show about 20x now. I cannot say enough about the story line and production. Nothing can compete.

No, armed soldiers trained in hand-to-hand combat do NOT stop and cower in fear before helpless cripples. They wouldn't even have recognized him, as none of them had ever seen him. @@Steve-df3lo I disagree, the GoT ending was also alright at best as well. It was not at all as bad as people say, people said that season 6 and 7 were absolute trash when in my mind they were classics. People were already saying that the final GoT would be trash before it started airing, they already made their minds up since reading about D&D leaving for Star Wars. I believe that you also made your mind up before watching the finale. Season 8 had many great moments, such as the Lannister brothers scene when Jaimie got saved or when Tyrion found his sibling's bodies under the rubble or the Hounds and the Mountains conclusion, etc. But no one wants to admit that. Game of Thrones deserved better than just an "alright" ending though, since it's Game of Thrones. And the reason why people aren't going just as hard on the Vikings finale is because it just not as good as Game of Thrones, period. It's nowhere near the level of Game of Thrones, even when Ragnar was alive, Game of Thrones is just on a different level and that is the fact, even at its worst it didn't lose popularity, that gotta tell you something.
