The Cuban sandwich did bit originate in Cuba. It originated in Tampa. The Cuban sandwich has elements that represent Cuban, Spanish, Italian, and German people. The only place between Cuba Miami and Tampa that had Italians and Germans was Ybor City.

Actually the Cuban sandwich started in the early 1900s in tampa, FL in Ybor city. There was a bunch of Cuban cigar manufacturers before the Cuban embargo. At lunch time there's awas a person that would sell "Cuban sandwichs"

To bad you never had the real sandwich I had this back in 1993 when I moved to Tampa from New York and it was not called the cuban sandwich that name was given here in miami the real name was pan con lechon y Jamon to many people make up stories about this sandwich but if they never had it in Tampa and miami back in the 90s then they never had the real one also the meat was never chopped always sliced
