John Strauss I was an ELP fan from day 1. Saw them live thrice. Major influence. Part of the golden age of music, which ended many decades ago. I LOVED these guys. As a pro musician, whenever I was asked about vocal influences, GL was always the first word out of my mouth. Needless to say, Greg’s voice deteriorated after 40, which is normal. Now, I look forward to death. Welcome back, my friends, to the show that never ends.

Same here, I was a fan in the 70's and saw them in concert in '77 then kind of grew off into other kinds of music. Recently, someone was playing ELP on Alexa and I got into them again, only to find out that we had lost Keith and Greg in 2016. Good thing we have the recordings and RUclips!

If I wanted to explain the diffence in mentality and the spoken word; between UK and USA.
I'd say there was no finer an example; than this.
American full of huff and puff + slang English.
Greg Lake actually the opposite; and he was supposed to be the 🌟
He was being 🇬🇧 humorous; which the interviewer wasn't attuned to.
Plus occasionally Greg is being "self-effacing"
    For those not familiar:
(adjective not claiming attention for oneself; retiring and modest.
"his demeanour was self-effacing, gracious, and polite")
Probably modern-day Americans would understand that now; as the Internet makes it a smaller world.
    Best wishes
    🇬🇧 🤝 🇺🇸

Well too late now. Don't second guess their musical talent. Try to appreciate the group for the genius they were. Two out of three now deceased.
So easy to be critical of their playing now years after the group is gone. Their legacy now lives on thru their fans. Be a fan not critic.

    • @deborahklinlger8565
      @deborahklinlger8565 2 года назад

Not a waste. Your wrong. Greg was a very special musician & human being. He was exceptional. Now he's gone & his music shall & does live on.

  • @Retroscoop

Funny no, just like with Ben Orr from the Cars, the male fans mainly iscuss Lake's musical genious, while the ladies in the audience talk about Lake's looks, what a cutie he was with a heart shaped face etc etc. I do hope they are at least a little bit less frivolous when it comes to politics, otherwise I'm not so sure giving women the right to vote was such a giant leap for democracy. Politicians being judged mainly on their picture perfect looks à la Trudeau or JFK, not quite sure if that is the way ahead to run a country smoothly and with vision. Venus and Mars, indeed....
