Perfect timing, I have played around with split squats for a while and always struggled with balance, will incorporate the suggestions in the video and see how I go. Thanks Brodie!
Hi Brodie. I've always been confused by split squats. How is their effect different from 'normal' single-leg squats? Apart from a hip extensor stretch, the back leg position seems to be purely for balance/position feedback. Am I missing something?
Good question. Your weight will be distributed slightly back. Allowing more hamstring activation (I believe). But more importantly, you can lift so much heavier than you possibly could with a single leg squat.
INTERESTING!!! And a bit scary too 😬😬 Even for those of us who do regularly strength training, this looks like it’s gonna take some getting used to!! I do appreciate the balance involved in this as I’ve found that to be enormously helpful in both training and recovering from many niggles / injuries too!! Further, I’m not so interested in speed but endurance for both distance and volume so really this looks very interesting to me!!! THANKS again Brodie!!!
@@RunSmarterwithBrodieSharpe thanks. My issue is when you start to max out on those last reps it's easy to loose form. I prefer to do 10 knowing I could do max 20 but I'll try and increase and work on doing 6 when 10 is my max. Just so I keep form and reduce chance of hurting something. 60 years old this year so need to keep strong but not injured.
Sorry Alan, just to clarify. The 5-6 rep max is the weight… not the reps you are actually doing. For example if you packed on the weight to reach your 6 rep max. You would only attempt 3-4 reps. Therefore, having some reps in reserve so form isn’t effected. But I can also see your point
I think that would be great for 1-2 sets with the board but it might be difficult to do it with weights so another 1-2 sets with weights and without the board would be good
I used to wear them quite often. But don’t really anymore. to be honest, thought they would be better for the thumbnail 😅 I have the altra escalante which is my most favourite at the moment

Good luck with it Bev. I hope mara training is going well
I'm still a little confused to the term "heavy". Would heavy be what related to body weight in this case?
With enough practice and a lot of patience, you want you get close to your 5 or 6 rep max. Research showing that even those doing

@@RunSmarterwithBrodieSharpe thanks for the clarification. Seems Iike I'm still not lifting enough.
I recently got a mobo board and one of thr recommended exercises is split squats, do you think it's a good tool/exercise?

I notice you use Vivo barefoot shoes. How good are they?
