Richard, I appreciate that you work with what you have, rather than constantly buying the latest and greatest. You fish like a working class or frugal person who knows they can only spend their money once. There is nothing pretentious about you and you come across as relatable and approachable. Thanks for keeping it real.
Great advice Richard! I’m a marine mechanic in Guntersville, 75% of all repairs are due to ethanol in fuel which begins to break down after just 14 days. Even “Non-ethanol” fuel can still (and does) legally contain up to 5% ethanol! It’s a disaster for boats. Use star-tron every time you touch a gas pump guys! God bless and great video Richard Gene!
Richard the floor looks good to me already. I wouldn’t have even known had you not mentioned that it didn’t come that way. Love the show. Keep it coming.
I just learned more about boats in 15 minutes, then anyone has been able to teach me in the few months I've been looking into them. Love all your content! I'll be looking forward to more.
Hello Mr. Gene !! I ordered a new 1860 center console 2 months ago and picked it up Monday. I also had them put on 70lb thrust power drive. It was extremely windy in SC today and that 70lb thrust held my boat in place on spot lock but it definitely had to work to do it. Hopefully this info helps !! Thank you for all the videos and information you put out. God Bless !!
Now this is the video I've been looking for. A nice walk around on your boats. I agree about the center console being in the way, but I've never had a tiller steer motor so I'm mot sure how it would change boating for me. However, a clean and open floorplan on an 1860 boat does look appealing. Thank you, Richard, for always putting out great videos. Entertaining, educational, comfortable as can be, with a touch of Woo from adrilagen from the great sport of fishing.
Wow. Yet another video that’s packed with innovation, experience, knowledge, engineering, fabrication, you name it. I’m starting to suspect that Richard is real smart.
I have a 112 lb thrust on my 17' 10" Ranger 354v. Everyone said all I needed was 80. Well I'm glad I got the extra power. Helps tremendously in wind. I had 55 lb thrust on my 1436 Jon boat. You'll want more trolling motor, and I recommend holding off until you can afford to get more power than you think you need. You'll be glad you did.
Richard you remind me of my grandfather. He was particular about his equipment and believed in taking care of it ! I still have his old 60 model boats and tractors he took care of!😄
Hey Richard, see those bunk guides on the back of your trailer? I put a set on toward the front of the trailer to force the bow of the boat straight onto the trailer. Especially handy when trying to load the boat in a high side wind or current.
Is that something you fabricated yourself or can you buy them somewhere? I could sure use them on my trailer. The winds in KY make trying to get out of the water with my boat like wrestling with a two-headed hog!
Like your new boat Richard thanks for showing us it I have a 175 Yamaha on my champion love it and it's a 2003 and is like new because it has always been taken care of your right do your maintenance they will last great video thanks Richard GOD bless you and your family Richard
Richard, will you please list the information on the switch you added to your trolling motor? Also, I'd like to take this time to say I absolutely LOVE your channel!!! I share it to others constantly. Keep doing what you're doing. Your subscribers appreciate you.
Good video my friend. For the new boat, in my opinion, as you don’t worry about the floor paint, looks really good. I will not own another tiller engine because of my age and shoulder problems. I put a stick steer in my river boat and I love it,$300.00. If your motor has the connection for steering, then it’s no problem. Those big boats and big motors take some power to steer once loaded. The trolling motor is to small, need a bigger motor, then you get into 24 volt systems to. I switched mine to 24 volt and 70 lb and it works great on my big boat (18.5’ Sylvan deep V with walk through windshield). Just my opinion. Thanks again fir sharing.
I'm 50, and have a small 1966 fiberglass deep v Hull boat 16' I think. I'm about to put a 9.9 Mercury tiller steer on it, and I appreciate the advice on the service tips. God bless you and your family Richard.
Richard: I agree that good maintenance will save lots of dollars in the long run. I have a 2002 50HP Yamaha 2 stroke. I bought it new and it still runs like new. I’ve had it in for service twice. A new fuel line connection and a new impeller and I ‘m back on the water. Tough reliable and problem free. Also easy for me to do most maintenance. Our ice just went out. Can’t wait to get back on the water. Thanks! God Bless!
Yes sir you are correct about the Yamaha motors. I been running them for years. Best motor hands down. Also for your floor in the Tracker go to a marine and tell them you want olive green paint That you can spray. I haven't fished TN yet and I'm planning on it.. I have 3 boats I have a old Tracker jon that I run here in PA for Catfishing. My other 2 are Ranger and a Vexus.
when you put God first this is what happens you have a great life in return rite Richard and all that stuff like the floor works and looks great as is. we love and appreciate the vids thanks Richard and family May God Bless yall
I have a 70lb powerdrive on my 18x60 like yours and it’s definitely more than enough. It’s 3 years old and used about 3 times a week with zero issues. There was a 45lb trust before and it didn’t cut it on a 10mph windy day or little current.
Richard Jean, the fishing machine sounds like such a awesome man. Thank you sir for sharing your fish catching abilities with us all I know I have learned a lot from you and look forward to learn more. Thank you sir and God bless.
I agree Richard. The 1860 needs at least a 70lb+ 24V tolling motor. I have a 55lb 12v on my 17’Creastliner bass/crappie boat. And when the wind gets up past 10 it will wear that 12v down quick. I had to put a backup battery just in case until I can upgrade trolling motor.
I love my 1448!! I've had 21 foot Rangers down to 18 foot Stratos and I have more fun and less stress and a 1448 with a 18hp Nissan than I ever did in all the big boats. Keep it simple and life is simple.
Richard I love watching all your videos you're so smart and know how to fish and teach everybody God bless you buddy I would love to meet you in person one day
Also Richard, you should consider putting some Hydrturf on the floor and deck of your new boat. Cool in the summer, never slick and quiet. You’ll love it.
Richard I had a Triton TR 19 fiberglass bass boat and it had a Johnson 24 Volt trolling motor 1998 I think it was 45 or 50 # thrust. The boat had a 42-45 gal. gas tank with a 175 H.P Johnson motor. That trolling motor was all that boat needed. In fact I never ran it on high. I think you will find 50# thrust will move that boat to suit your needs. Enjoy your videos. Mama Sue is going to love fishing from that boat.
I have a 19 ft rough neck all weld and it has a 45 pound thrust trolling motor and it is not nearly eanugh if the wind is blowing well just forget it so good luck and God bless you richard gene
That 1860 is a fine boat to fish out of mine has a 75 mercury force motor on it and I love it and you can do so much to it a fine boat . Great video gene
Congratulations on the boat Richard. I have a 1548 sportsman and it is great. Make sure to keep it under the shed when not in use! the biggest complaint with the grizzlies is wet heavy foam. Good luck and tight lines.
Oh I forgot I have been watching the old fisherman and he is quite entertaining but he's not the teacher the fishing machine is thank u richard and God bless
I had almost the exact same setup as the 1st one years and years ago. I had a 50 evenrude though. I also had a 6ft steel rod I made and welded a spot on one end for rope and made a point on the other. It made a awesome anchor that flew through the water stuck in the mud and when I was in them through it down almost with zero splash. That thing would stick in that Louisiana Bayou mud and hold and was pretty easy to pull up when ready.
Love the new boat but that alweld is a boat I can only dream of having. Fit me and my wife perfectly. Soon enough I'll have me something like it. Awesome video sir
You have inspired me to maybe go the cheaper route on buying a boat. Sometimes we don’t need all the flashy things in life. We can still get the job done and have fun without drowning in debt. I hope God blesses everyone with peace and joy regardless of what you can afford in fishing gear.
That's nice setup on your boat. Plenty room. So you can take a friend along more now haha. God bless you and yours. Looking forward to your next trip and thanks for the info
I just bought a 14ft fiberglass skiff with a 25hp 4 stroke Mercury. I have run 2 strokes all my life but my 4 stroke sips gas and is ultra quiet. I fish sitting down most of the time and I have it set up were I only have to move when I am firing up the big motor. Everything else is at my fingertips. It's the perfect rig for me.
I have a 1448 grizzly tracker with a 55# trolling motor that’s just right. You will definitely be underpowered on that 1860 with a 50 in current. Nice boat
We have a 55 power drive with i pilot on our 1860 polarkraft. It will drag for catfish all day with power to spare. Add the ipilot to your power drive its easy and is an awesome upgrade.
The day I stopped worrying about the shine and glimmer of my boat and how it looks going down the road and down the lake, and started using it for the vessel it is…as a tool, is the day I starting being a better Catcherman…a stress-free Catcherman……”Ol-kay”…. 🙂👍🏾 (luv the added “unhh-unhh”…at the Outro there RGFM😁 …they say the true spirit of music…soul, rock, hip-hop, etc., from Elvis to Eminem to Biggie Smalls to Axel Rose to Justin Timberlake to P. Richard, That's a nice new boat you got. Those 4 strokes are easy on gas, I have a Lowe st175 with a 60 hp. The no carpet option camo is sure nice, mine is now 10yrs old and it still looks real good. I'm happy for ya, keep them good videos coming. I'm totally with you ,simple is better.
Mr fishing machine you are a good Ole boy (man) I use a bobber stop for vertical jigging an my pole for a measuring device it works great just thought I would share that
Most dissimilar metals will create a voltage when touching one another, that will cause oxide, that will eventually destroy the surface . Another thing that will destroy aluminum is pressure treated wood ask me how I know? Richard this was a very good video ,Thanks for the info!
I have a 91 Ranger 482v Bass Master Classic and its a heavy boat and it has a Motorguide trolling motor 24V w/56lb thrust and it works good. So I'm thinking a 50lb thrust trolling motor as light as aluminum is you should be golden.
I live in southeast missouri, and fish everything from local lakes to the Mississippi and Ohio rivers, not sure about were live but around here there are a few places that Sell 93 0ctane has no Ethanol in it, I've found works great in outboard motors, that's what I use in all my small engines, and you don't have to add anything to it, lawnmower, tiller and boat motor.
Id change out that grey fuel line. Reason why the inside will come apart from ethanol eating it away. Go to parts store buy EPA blk hose. Keep up the great fishing vids it's teaching me well.
I like the little Helix 5. I have one on my kayak. It has DI and GPS with all the lake maps I need. All I use it for is to pinpoint all my favorite piles and submerged timber where I already know crappie hang out and for surface temps and channel locations... I really enjoy all your videos Richard!! When I cant go fishing its the next best thing with a good cup of coffee!!!! Cheers!!!
Love the new boat. Did you sell your small one? You should do a video when you service your motors so we can see what all you do and the internals. Love ya brother and God bless.
Richard Congrats on your new to you Boat. I really appreciate your videos and your knowledge you are blessed with. Have a Blessed fishing trips. God Bless you and your family.
If I were you I'd grab that white bamboo chair by your bait bucket and put it right in the middle of that 40 square ft on your tracker. 😇Hoping you do well with that front moving through. Very informative video as usual. God Bless you.
I got a fifty on a 15 1/2 semi vee. I think you would need more thrust on that boat, especially in the current. Nice open floor for bait tanks and throw nets for sure!!!
Richard, I appreciate that you work with what you have, rather than constantly buying the latest and greatest. You fish like a working class or frugal person who knows they can only spend their money once. There is nothing pretentious about you and you come across as relatable and approachable. Thanks for keeping it real.
Hit the nail on the head.
You are not simple minded sir, you are a simple man. The world needs more of you, that is for sure.
It's always good to see people giving God the credit for their blessings.

Agreed,love his personality
I second that!!! I would love to fish with you
I’ve asked him since he started.
Me too 🎣 yes I would pay good money to go fishing with Richard Gene the fishing machine and I don't live that far away from hem either so. ❤️
I agree!
viewers can tell you are one fine selfless fella..........we can tell.......and im grateful too !!!!

Richard you remind me of my grandfather. He was particular about his equipment and believed in taking care of it ! I still have his old 60 model boats and tractors he took care of!😄
Great stuff Gene! Yes, yearly maintenance and even more frequently in the salt. The best to you and yours.

Love the new boat Richard, hope you enjoy it. Looking forward to the upcoming catfish video's on it.
Those wide boats are perfect for the flats in the gulf of Mexico for speckled trout fishing. Nice ones you have. 👍 Wooo!!
Richard I love any boat,as long as I'm fishing, don't matter what I'm hookin', I'm a happy Fisher. Just being on the water, whoa boy.

Congrats on the new boat Brother. Try some Seafoam for your engines from cars to boats and in between
I like the walk around on your new boat!

It’s always a pleasure to listen to his videos.
You've got a video for every question that pops into my head! Thank you so much.
I would have never known that you painted that floor, you did a great job. The fish don't mind at all. Lol Thanks for sharing, nice looking rigs.
I bought a minn kota terrova 86 lb thrust for my 19’ centerconsole plenty of power. The anchor and remote control are game changers.

You touched on some important details here Richard. Can't wait to see a monster catfish laying in the bottom of that new boat!
RGFM: one nice thing about the Grizzly is there is a channel in the bottom of the boat you can run wires through. Check it out.

That’s a cool rig. Can’t wait to see what all you fix up on it.
Looks like there is plenty of room for Elmo. No excuses for him now.
I have a 1448 grizzly tracker with a 55# trolling motor that’s just right. You will definitely be underpowered on that 1860 with a 50 in current. Nice boat
Great video. Just as important as fishing. Thank you Richard.
Mr. Richard, I started using that same gas treatment (Star-Tron) and non-ethanol gas and all my fuel related problems went away. Love your video's.
We have a 55 power drive with i pilot on our 1860 polarkraft. It will drag for catfish all day with power to spare.
Add the ipilot to your power drive its easy and is an awesome upgrade.
Congrats on new boat elmo.power drive rolling motors are OK .fish on
Richard, If I'm not mistaken, that green paint is called OD (olive Drab) Green. I believe it's a match to that green.
Your aces in my book my man, may God bless you and your family
The day I stopped worrying about the shine and glimmer of my boat and how it looks going down the road and down the lake, and started using it for the vessel it is…as a tool, is the day I starting being a better Catcherman…a stress-free Catcherman……”Ol-kay”…. 🙂👍🏾

Startron goes in all my gas powered engines. Works great. Working on trying to get a starter boat right now.
I have a 17 ft Tracker and purchased a Minnkota Terrova 55pound motor and it is perfect for my boat..
I must tell you Richard I love that boat and I called them about the layout of your boat . My hope is to buy the same before I retire !
Richard,
That's a nice new boat you got.
Those 4 strokes are easy on gas, I have a Lowe st175 with a 60 hp. The no carpet option camo is sure nice, mine is now 10yrs old and it still looks real good. I'm happy for ya, keep them good videos coming.
I'm totally with you ,simple is better.
Mr fishing machine you are a good Ole boy (man) I use a bobber stop for vertical jigging an my pole for a measuring device it works great just thought I would share that
Most dissimilar metals will create a voltage when touching one another, that will cause oxide, that will eventually
destroy the surface . Another thing that will destroy aluminum is pressure treated wood ask me how I know?
Richard this was a very good video ,Thanks for the info!
I rock the Hummingbird helix 5 myself. If you know the waters its the right tool for the job. Can't wait to see you out on the rig!
Nice boat, always enjoy your videos, God Bless You.
They make that color paint you can order online, I picked a can of it up yesterday because I had a lot of scratches from bridge pilings!!
I have a 91 Ranger 482v Bass Master Classic and its a heavy boat and it has a Motorguide trolling motor 24V w/56lb thrust and it works good. So I'm thinking a 50lb thrust trolling motor as light as aluminum is you should be golden.
better get a battery box on the trolling motor batteries, warden might give you a ticket, fire hazard... love the lounge chair in the fishing shed!
I had a 16.5 aluminum boat that had a Yamaha 40hp 2 stroke on it. Loved that motor! It was great.
thats what ive got and dont need anything else. Thanks Richard for showing us your new boat
Love the boat mr gene can’t wait to see some good catfish videos
Id change out that grey fuel line. Reason why the inside will come apart from ethanol eating it away. Go to parts store buy EPA blk hose. Keep up the great fishing vids it's teaching me well.
I like the little Helix 5. I have one on my kayak. It has DI and GPS with all the lake maps I need. All I use it for is to pinpoint all my favorite piles and submerged timber where I already know crappie hang out and for surface temps and channel locations... I really enjoy all your videos Richard!! When I cant go fishing its the next best thing with a good cup of coffee!!!! Cheers!!!
Awesome. I agree always use what ya got till it won't go no more then replace it ..
You da man Richard.....Thanks for what you do.
Great video ol mean gene. That time of the year to go crappie fishing. You better bring back momma Sue a few of them slabs.
I’m proud just to have what I have too. Yes sir, the lord has blessed us. Love your videos!
I think fish camo would look nice in the bottom of the boat or just simply fill it with fish haaaa Great job Richard Gene 👍
Got to service boat motors . I pull the prop off and check for fishing line to when I do the lower unit.
Thank you for showing your new boat
Richard is a man of common sense.............that's hard to come by these days!
Thanks so much for showing us, alway wanted to know the difference in your boats, my best Sir
Go ahead and stick that new trolling motor on the little boat and get ya a 70lber.
Nice arsenal you have there!
Looking forward to seeing that boat on the water!!
I got a fifty on a 15 1/2 semi vee. I think you would need more thrust on that boat, especially in the current. Nice open floor for bait tanks and throw nets for sure!!!
