  • I've fully embraced lasers into my work, and not just for leathercraft. I've also used them in my scale models. There's so much you can do with them -- if you're open to learning some basic software. Most of my actual design work is done in Adobe Illustrator. This is a paid subscription, but Inkscape is a good free option.
    This video is an unboxing and quick demo of xTool's D1 Pro 20W diode laser.
    Full disclosure: xTool sent me this machine in exchange for this video. They didn't say I had to give a glowing review of it (I don't do that). They simply asked for whatever video I came up with to be posted before Black Friday. My opinion: It's a good machine and makes quick work of cutting leather, making patterns, and engraving metal. The only downside is the lack of an enclosure. So when using this or any other laser make sure you have adequate ventilation.
    Below are the links to save my viewers a few bucks on purchasing the D1 direct from xTool (use code XTCUT80). This also helps support the channel by earning a (very) small commission:

    I'm always picking up ideas on how to jig up & deal with alignment issues from the odd shaped stuff you work on.
    Thanks for the education!

    Thank you for these demos and reviews. I'm considering one and I wanted to see them work so badly, and these videos were my only chance.

    Still saving money to get my own laser. I was impressed in how well that knife turned out!

      lol. Me too! I was nervous about doing it because if I screwed up, there'd be a lot of grinding and buffing to fix it.

    I have a big boy laser as well but always love your videos lol. If you haven’t put it together yet that rubber sheet is for making the stamp they sent the block and ink pad for. Cant wait to see what you come up with, with this one!

    If a guy were to take his craft to the next level like you have a gift like this one would make any shop much better. I do like the way you have made this high tech stuff work with your leather craft. ( I have a question; Do you still use your Boss machine in your work?)

      Thanks! No, I sold my Boss. I just didn't use it anymore since I purchased my Cobra 26

    What do you use for ventilation? Do you just depend on being in a garage vs. indoor space?

    • @RoadAgentLeather
      @RoadAgentLeather  10 месяцев назад

      I'm in my garage with the door open and a box fan running. If I'm working with any material that may produce fumes (like acrylic or chrome tan leather) I add a respirator.

    Excellent video. I have never messed with this type of equipment. Is it difficult or time consuming to get the pattern loaded?

      Loading the pattern to the laser? No. I'm using the wi-fi feature to run the machine. Creating the pattern is a different story.
