  • Leather & Lasers volume 4! In this leather working video I make an envelope-style computer bag / satchel. I'm using a soft, but heavy weight chrome-tan hide for the main shell. Returning channel sponsor Creality was kind enough to send me their new Falcon2 Pro 40W diode laser etcher, engraver, and cutter to review. I use it to create the wooden side frames. They are attached using furniture tacs (purchased from Amazon). The artwork I engrave into them was purchased from Adobestock.
    A surplus AKM sling was used for the shoulder strap. I purchased a bunch of these in bulk a while back and they make really cool additions to projects like this.
    Below is a promotional link to save my viewers a few bucks on purchasing from Creality. Use code "FNPALL10":

    My first thought was, “like a kid with a new toy!” I like the idea of a laser for leather work . Don’t thing I will be getting one any time soon. But one can wish 😊. Nice job on incorporating wood and leather into the computer bag. 👍 please keep the videos coming. Still trike your best work is the sheaves and hostess. 😎

    Dang man, you are so creative. As a leatherworker hobbyist, I'm so inspired by your work. I made a motorcycle toolbag out of wood and leather and followed a similar method you did (no laser). Turned out well.

    I liked the slots for the surplus straps. Nice touch!

      Thanks! One problem with those old surplus rifle slings is they are filthy (at least the ones I bought were). It took a lot of scrubbing with saddle soap for them to come clean.

      @@RoadAgentLeather It's a pity that where I do live it's quite hard to find surplus rifle slings. You are lucky in that sense. THey are far better looking that the surplus purse straps Ican easily find instead.

    Neat bag, I would probably be annoyed because I like my laptop bags to have a spot for the charger but 🤷‍♂️ still looks cool. It was once put to me that the difference between an amateur and a professional is that the amateur will spend time to save money while the professional spends money to save time because time is the most valuable commodity you have. If you’ve got a business and need to crank out parts to make money then the laser and tools like it make a lot of sense from an efficiency standpoint (or if using the lasers and cncs is your hobby in and of itself which is also awesome lol)

      Thanks for watching. Fortunately, this particular computer has a small cable and wall jack for charging (not a traditional "brick" changer.) And totally agree on the spending money to save time/effort point.

    Loved the 2 tone look. Great design. Some things can only be done with a laser.
    Impatiently waiting for what's next.

    Here’s a tip, if you want to leave film masking on your transparent items but you want to to remove it in certain areas, use a sharp glass cutter. It will score the film so it tears clean. So for instance you can remove the film one inch from the edge for screw placement or to engage some framework. The cutter will not mark the transparent material.

    Excellent work. Curious:early in the you painted the side frames green overlaid with black and bronze. Yet in the finished product they are nowhere to be seen, just unpainted frames. Did you not like the green? Antiques with the black/dark brown, the dragon looked pretty cool. Thanks for sharing. Keep tooling, filming.

      I was attempting to apply some color to the engraved art . . . rather than leaving it scorched wood. It has a dark, antiqued green color with bronze patina. It's subtle. Something that doesn't really show well in the video (kinda have to see it in person). Thanks for subscribing!

    Where do you get your surplus slings? After watching your videos using the laser as a tool for your projects, I purchased a 2trees TTs-20 Pro 20w Laser. My primary reason for the choice is the working area of 16" x 16", it can be expanded to 24" x 24" rather easily. My advice for any leather worker, get a laser, it's a great tool. Next on my list is a sewing machine.

      I purchased the slings from Gunbroker. There's a bunch of sellers selling a wide variety of them.

    Very cool,does it get hot on your work table cutting board? Where's the smoke go out ,vented to outside?

    • @RoadAgentLeather
      @RoadAgentLeather  3 месяца назад +1

      No, there's a metal tray below the laser that shields the work surface and catches any cuttings and debris. And yes, the smoke can be vented anywhere you stick the hose. In this case, I'm working in my garage so just have it directed out the door.

      lol. I have no idea. But if they're offering I'll keep taking them! In this particular project, there's no way I'd be able to make those wood cuts by hand . . . . or at least they wouldn't be that precise. Thanks for watching!

    Did you line the back of the closure so the prongs don't scratch the laptop? Or was that not necessary?

    • @RoadAgentLeather
      @RoadAgentLeather  3 месяца назад +1

      That's what the circular piece of leather is for. The closure is attached to that, not to the body of the bag.
