I’ve found that when I am using paintless dent repair for removing dents in truck tailgates that it is easier to have the tailgate off of the truck. I then mount it onto a bench to keep it flat and stable.
By doing it this way I am able to have multiple access points. There is access through the back cover plate, through holes in the bottom of the gate and also if needed the latches can be removed.
This big dent in the tailgate had some open access but also some good damage that was behind the bracing. The parts that were behind the bracing was also in the bodyline. The damage to the bodyline and the limited access to this area proved difficult to get a 100% repair.
I was still happy with how this dent turned out in this tailgate and I had a satisfied customer.

Thanks! This dent repair was a challenge because of the damage to the body line and it being under the brace. Limited access to be able to get enough power behind the pushes.

Very nice! The length of the video is good. Would have like to see the tools though. I have an aluminum F150 (2016) with similar dents. Is the aluminum much different to work with?
Yes. The aluminum will be much more difficult to repair. If the damage is similar to this one, it might be one I would pass on because of how difficult it would be to repair to acceptable quality.

If the tailgate we're aluminum, would it be able to be done? I've been reading that dents in aluminum, especially ones that crease cannot be repaired.
Yes. Aluminum can be repaired and even if it is a crease. It just requires a lot more skill and extra force to be able to push the dents out properly.

What tools are you using?
I usually use tools from A1 Tool and Dent Craft Tools in my repairs.
