    So you want to know how Hail Damage is repaired with paintless dent repair.
    Today I am going to show you the professional way that we take hail damage dents out from a car using PDR. There are some DIY Dent Repair methods that may work for you but most probably won't. You may have heard of using dry ice to take dents out or heating up the dent with a hairdryer and using a can of compressed cold air and that's gonna pop the dents out for you, maybe you can just pop them out with a plunger or suction cup. I have even heard people say they just leave it out in the hot sun and this will cause the dents to pop right out. The problem with these methods is you may run into issues with damaging the paint.
    Using Paintless Dent Repair to take out the hail dents is the preferred method recommended by vehicle manufacturers and insurance companies.
    First off you can see underneath the hood that there is a bigger dent that is out in the open. We've got a special PDR tool with special tips on it that we use to get on the underside of the panel and then we will likely just push up the metal.
    With this method of paintless dent repair you could try to do-it-yourself but if you don't have any experience with it could be difficult because of the hand-eye coordination that is needed. We use our special PDR lights to know exactly where we are pushing the dent from underneath and we make several small little tiny pushes pushing up every little spot.
    Some people have come to me and said they tried to remove the hail dents themselves and they have just caused further damage that may not be able to repair anymore with PDR. What happens is if you get in there and you push on the dent and you think you just gonna pump it out you actually bust the paint by pushing too hard or you can make little marks in the paint or in the metal from pushing too much.

      Excel Dent Removal But how can you fix dents on the roof of the car? Remove all the upholstery or something? What about dents on plastic trim pieces??

    • @exceldentremoval
      @exceldentremoval  7 лет назад

      The plastic parts of a car are less likely to get dents. If they do, some can be removed with PDR. Other times they just get replaced.
      This video shows how I removed a dent in a plastic bumper. ruclips.net/video/Z7emp5w9Udc/видео.html

      Hey +Smart Feller , Great Question. Thanks for asking.
      When having to repair dents that are in the roof panel of a car, we do have to remove the interior headliner. This can be done and put back together without any damage when done by a professional with experience.

    I learned a lot!! The best lesson I learned is to let a professional like this guy do the work. Who has the time , the lights , tools, and shop to do this type of work without damaging paint?? I replace hail damaged roofs and homeowners are particular about their roofs, if you think they will be relaxed for a novice to work on their vehicles than I have a mountain range here in Colorado I would like to sell , includes mineral rights....

    I was successful pulling a dent that was in a large rear quarter panel using a large amount of hot water and a plunger. It only took a small amount of force to pull it out. I did have to do it a second time because I let go before the metal had cooled. No cracks. But this was mine.

    The hot sun in the summer actually removed most of the hail dents on my Toyota Supra. I live in Texas, however. I made a point to park it outside all summer. I had extensive hail damage and my insurance dropped the car from our policy (bumped to liability!) After all of the hail damage is now fixed (by mother nature) I will be shopping for another policy!

      What!? I've never heard of that! I'm in Texas to and my vehicle got plummeted by hail and I'm shopping around because most shops want to replace my roof, hood, doors, whole thing and take 20-30 days to do it! My insurance will only cover a rental for 2 weeks.. It's just a lot to take in. So most of the dents popped out?? Amazing!

    LOL. I had gone to a local Tented Hail Repair place that set up after we had hail. Lots of cars.... The number and shapes of rods was amazing, as was the lights used. My wife's 13 Lacrosse has a lot of fairly small dents, but she opted to not get them fixed as she has $1000. deductible and it would cost her either way....but the thing that you could have added to make your business sell more is the damage to the TOP of the car. Where you have to remove the lining, etc, to show what needs to be done to even get to those pesky little and large dents. More to the work than it looks like.

    Hello! I love your video, I've been wanting to learn how to do paintless dent removal. Where is this technique taught and how much you reckon a specialist gets paid by a shop to do this work?

    • @exceldentremoval
      @exceldentremoval  5 лет назад

      There are a few options for paintless dent repair training.
      One are “training schools” where you get 1-2 weeks of basic skills training. They may also supply some basic tools. After this training you will ha r to practice for at least 6 months to two years to get good enough to work on customers cars and get good results.
      The other option is to get training from an experienced tech that can train for 1 - 4 weeks. This will be the basics but can also offer some more advanced training. Either at the same time or in the future after some “at home” practice.
      As far as tech pay. This can vary. Some places may pay hourly and others on a commission basis.
      Most techs are independent companies and work for themselves.

    • @exceldentremoval
      @exceldentremoval  5 лет назад

      If you are interested in learning more about PDR. I would suggest checking out Dent Trainer. They have an online monthly subscription where you can see if it is something you want to pursue and may be able to practice on a few dents to see if it is something you can do.

      Not at all. I’ve been doing PDR for over 20 years. I’ve never had anyone come back because of a problem with the repair.
      I’ve even had cars that I’ve fixed with dents or hail multiple times over the years. I’ve been able to reinspect them. And there are no signs of the previous repairs being done.

    It takes forever! Im learning glue pulling. Im pretty much terrible with the rods at the moment. However i am getting quarter size dings down to a pinchmark the size of a dime often. PDR is very hard and im pretty good with my hands, sculpting, etc and struggling. I wanted to let a pro do it but my car wasnt worth much just cause of age. It was in near perfect condition before the hail storm. Rear bumper clearcoat was starting to fade and thats it. Anyway my insurance totalled the car due to the amount of tiny dings. After buying it back i realized its a salvage title now so i have to get it inspected....lol. No broken windows just about 400 dime to baseball size dings. But needs inspection and rebuilt title in order to be registered. So after about no joke 30 hours of glue pulling and 4 hours of rod nonsense its starting to look good. Sadly i overpulled some dents and made some oil cans in the beggining and will have to drop my headliner to get somthing like a wedge anvil in there to pound the nonsense down but better. I would say equivilent to the best of the worst new pdr techs....lol.

    • @exceldentremoval
      @exceldentremoval  4 года назад +1

      Glue pulling dents was never the standard method of PDR. It all started with rods and hammers.It's best to learn and understand metal movement from pushing before ever using glue to fix dents. But it sounds like you had some success. Which is good. I spent 40-50 hours a week for about 6 months of training and practice before I was consistent on removing even small dings.

    Excel Dent Removal very good video. Do you recommend using glue pulling tools to remove hail dent on aluminum hood, what is the best tools to remove hail dent on aluminum hood?

    • @exceldentremoval
      @exceldentremoval  5 лет назад +1

      +roberto gutierrez Thanks! Glue pulling aluminum dents can be very difficult. The metal does not react the same as steel. While it can be done, it can take many try’s to get it out. And usually only works for very small dings. I’d prefer to push them out from behind the panel if it’s possible.
      Aluminum hoods usually require some extra, consistent heat on the dent to help make it easier to push out and usually a sharper Pdr tool with presise pushes.

    What about a dent in the bonnet that protrudes outward. Some mechanic left a tool under the bonnet of my car and forgot about it when the bonnet was closed. It caught the brace and made an outward dent. Hammer and a bit of wood?

    • @exceldentremoval
      @exceldentremoval  4 года назад

      I have repaired many dents or damage like that. I usually need to use a sharp knockdown and hammer or even one of my metal knock down tips. Sometimes I can flatten it out smooth. Other times I'll have to make it into a dent and then repair the dent using PDR tools. From there it may often need to be lightly sanded and buffed out to bring it back smooth.
      If the damage is from the brace pushing it up, then a similar method would be used. But it may require moving the brace or repairing it so that the metal can be tapped back down without the brace still pushing it up.

      Glue pulling can work on aluminum but it is much more difficult and limited on a sharp dent.
      If you are working on a door, I would try to get a tool behind the dent to work it out.
      You may have to try tapping down the dent and starting over if possible. Once the aluminum is pulled wrong it is difficult to fix it.

      Whether this is the rocker panel of a car or an attached running board on a truck, can make a difference on if it can be repaired.
      Both of these would have limited access to get inside to push the dents out on most vehicles.
      If the dents are small and not sharp, then using glue pulling may work to pull out the dents.

      Heating is to bring the panel to an ideal working temp. This can be because the panel is cold, the dent is sharp, to help keep the paint flexible, or for helping with aluminum.
