I hurt myself pretty badly jumping off a cliff into water. I watched several people do it and figured I could too. My form was perfect... until I freaked out because it felt like I had been falling forever. Apparently my panic occurred right before I hit the water and I had leaned backwards, landing square on my back. Someone dove in after me because they realized I was probably in trouble and they were right. The impact completely stunned me. I couldn't move or breathe or anything. They pulled me to the surface and helped me to shore. I was bleeding from lacerations on my back from the sheer force of hitting the water from that height and the bruising was extensive. All I could think while laying on the shore trying to breathe was that I finally had an answer for my parents... if everyone else jumped off a cliff, I would too.
I once worked with someone who broke their back cliff diving - pretty much that exact same way. I could never, just knowing the pain that girl was in daily from it.
@@theknightradiant2 True. I think it was a good thing that I couldn't breathe for a minute after the impact because otherwise I probably would have gasped and inhaled a ton of water. *Basically I got the wind knocked out of me, a term for when the diaphragm is temporarily paralyzed restricting the ability to breathe (caused by heavy impact to the abdomen or back).
0:39 she had spotters if you look you can see that the larger landing mat got moved so that her whole body would land on it rather than only the lower part of the body. In bar gymnastics this is how spotting goes there is not usually a spotter right next to the bar because if they try to directly catch someone who has this much momentum the spotters would almost certainly get injured aswell then you have 2 injured people to deal with
My thought exactly. If that mat hadn't been shoved under her, it would have been way worse especially for her neck. The spotter did their job, and I'm sure that gymnast was fine after that, maybe some soreness.
I would also like to add that it seems like they are in the middle of competition. Spotters are not allowed to push this round mat on bars during competitions. He did all he could which was pushing the larger landing mat under her.
I really appreciate those doctors who feel other's pain and who see their patients as humans(at least as living things) not as objects or something like that. Therefore so much respect for Dr. Mikhail Varshavski
Can't really spot in gymnastics, you're likely to take a foot to the face. That's what the mats are for. I LOVED the uneven bars when I was in gymnastics!
When you said “think about the toe,” you made me remember the time Viggo Mortensen was filming a scene in LOTR, where he kicked a helmet so many times on set that he broke his toe. The scene that appears in the series is him screaming from pain.
Made me think of when Daniel Radcliffe kicked the dresser in i think it was prisoner of Azkaban and broke his toe.. dude took it like a champ and continued the scene but you can kinda tell he was dying inside once you know. The emotion worked well for the scene at least 😅
That's why u never, ever, kick anything with your toes, use the inside, outside of your foot or the instep. Places where u play football (soccer for the yanks) with your friends out on the street u quickly learn this the hard way, once your kicks get stronger with age u loose all control over the ball direction and it hurts like hell.
Does nobody know that like barefoot kicking used to be common practice in the NFL a couple of decades ago. Also you don't kick a football with your toe you kick it with a bone towards the bottom of your foot.

For the gymnast in the second video. You’re not allowed to have a coach spot at a competition, it’s a serious deduction. As well as most (99%) of coaches won’t allow a gymnast to compete a skill they cannot consistently do. That’s also why they have a safety mat ready to push in, to make it just a bit safer.
Ok, so what we saw was actually the mat person doing a good job at anticipating the fall? Like, the mat started moving in place before I realized, watching, that something had gone wrong.
as a gymnast, i can say the fall at 0:35 hurts pretty bad and i've know people that have gotten whiplash from it. it's very likely to fall like that especially when first learning a jaeger (the skill she was doing). she did have a "spotter" there, but if she was in a routine (which it looked like she might have been), it's a big deduction to have a coach touch you at all in a routine. letting her fall was probably the safest and smartest option, less deduction and lower risk of breaking bones. the coach probably would have gotten hurt if he were to try and catch her, and it could have led to her getting a worse injury for the gymnast. also, gymnasts are trained on how to fall out of more dangerous and difficult skills, and she's probably fallen like that at least a dozen times.
My mother and step-father thought I had a ganglion cyst for the longest time, they'd try to break it by my smashing books against my hand, and my step-father once actually tried to take a needle to me. Luckily my friend at the time's uncle, who is a doctor, took a look at it and realized pretty quick that it was a tumor and I got it surgically removed.

I've torn my ACL about a month back and let me tell you one thing, "It's an injury you don't want if you like sports". With proper treatment, a torn ACL can heal in 4-5 months(that's an estimate btw) maybe more depending on how badly it was torn and how much you're treating it. My advice to prevent any ACL injury is to do warm-ups before playing certain sports. Without doing warm-ups, your body doesn't understand what to do in certain situations and that can lead to injuries like a torn ACL.
I've torn both my acls on separate occasions. The good news: you can get all the way back with a good reconstruction surgery and PT. The bad news? It's a full year revovery for sports usually, and it may be 2 until it feels 100%.
I have a friend who is a sports therapist, and she told me that how she treats ACL injuries, is to build up the quad muscles. If those are strong enough, you don't need to worry about your ACL being in the same condition is was before your injury. It's how she gets them back to being able to at least continue to train in their sport, so they can return to competition faster. Physical therapists goal is to make sure the person is no longer in pain. Spots therapists goal is to get the person back to competitive level health. It's really interesting to learn how they can take it a step further.
Exactly that. Totally agree with you. I’m studying to become a PT and we even learned that for optimal recovery and being full on ready to go back to all activities it can even take up to a year to recover from a torn ACL.

1:20 I remember one of the school camps, some guys bought like 10 boxes of these and decided it'll be a good idea to pack half of them into a plastic bag and throw it at the wall of our hotel (it was only one floor and all the doors went outside to the yard so we all heard it) IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FRICKING NIGHT. The day after me and the girls bought three boxes, one for every person, and hid them around their room. We were smiling evilly every time we heard a little explosion from their room. I still have this box, after like 9 years, since we didn't use all of these. I sometimes throw them at my sisters door if she breaks or takes some of my stuff. Fun times :)
0:43 Dear Dr. Mike, As this may look really cool and hard to attempt/do, I have done this before and because of the fact that you momentum is all on whatever the object you are holding onto, which means whatever movement that vehicle does, that handle bar does, which would make your body do the cool movements that this guy did.
The first one brought back traumatizing memories for me. Long story short, my neighbors got a zip line in their backyard and wanted me to go first as I was the oldest of their children and my siblings, and something happened where I gained a ton of speed really fast, and the devices that were supposed to slow and stop you didn’t work, and when I hit the end I flipped back onto my neck. I was lucky not to be paralyzed or worse. The weirdest thing was (besides my neck being sore) my toes really hurt after the initial pain wore off. Like REALLY hurt for like weeks, even though I landed elsewhere. The top suggestion was that my toes hit the tree that the zip line was hooked up to at the end. Suggestions on why my toes were the main source of pain would be appreciated!
Probably not correct but when I swing my arms around a lot my hands start to hurt a bit so maybe it was something to do with the momentum of the zipline?
6:08 I did one of those. It tripped me, and I landed directly on my right knee on the corner of the padding to the side of the trampoline. Apparently there is metal underneath the padding because it was paaiiinful. I didn't get a bruise, but it hurt when I pressed on my knee for the next couple months. That was in March. Don't know why I wrote this.
I love your reactions and responses to those videos, Doctor Mike. This took a lot of work to collect and put them together though. This is nice to watch. I love your shirt and all about you.
Wait never noticed his small head until now that he has short hair lol Edit: which isn’t a bad thing he is still hot and beautiful personality and smart lol he just always mentions a small head lmao
Man that ganglion cyst vid was almost physically painful to watch. I had one that was on my wrist that had wrapped itself up on my nerves so any wrong movement or slight bump was excruciatingly painful. Fortunately I got it removed a few years back and God it was so nice not worrying about the pain.
8:06 - Is this similar in some way to the effect of getting a hard spot under the skin after a needle is removed? This could be an other thing that's completely unrelated, but I've known a few people to occasionally get random hard spots under their skin from needles, sometimes in the upper back, but usually within the fatty tissue area of the chest. (They do this for alternative medicine reasons, there are no syringes attached, and there's no needle reuse. I'm just asking to understand the mechanism by which this occurs.) It's caused some mammograms to get complicated for them, but has been shown to decidedly not be cancerous growths. (They also form immediately by the time the needle is removed.) Massaging them immediately seems to decrease their final size.
WOW I have never gagged or had an extreme visceral reaction at a video like the one I did when I saw the guy rolling over the ganglion cyst. I've came across the most horrific videos on the internet (straight up gore) and never felt how I felt seeing that cyst being rolled over. Holy cow.

0:34 Do you think that blue mat being pushed in mid-flip disoriented her and made her miss the bar. For me when I concentrate on something intricate that I need my eyes and hands for, anything extra moving in my periphery freaks me out and I mess up really easily
I’ve seen students back in high school do dupid things a lot. For example: Pepper spraying another girl because they got in a fight, causing the whole building to be filled with pepper spray. Girl slapping a guy during lunch because he broke up with her. And lifting and dropping the snack machines because their snack got stuck.
6:52 some approximate math tells me that was a 124ish foot drop. He was likely doing nearly 60mph at the bottom of the fall. It's gonna be a no from me, dawg
When I was in highschool I had a football hit me in the temple without bouncing first! So I can attest to how much pain that guy would be in! Plus I ended up with a concussion so that was fun!
I love ur videos!!!! My mom is an interpreter and one time She was working and I was watching ur videos and I started to talk about anaphylaxis and stuff and she was like how do u know that and I was like well I watch good content
Fun historical note: ganglion cysts are also still called Bible cysts because the most common way to fix them before surgery or hypodermic needles were common was to whack them with a large heavy book. The most common large heavy book in a given home at the time? That's right: the Bible.
1:10 We were at an amusement park on the last day of school, and kept hearing these little explosions and we had no idea what they were. Turns out it was my friend throwing those things everywhere🤦♀️😂
That kid with the bat cracked me up. I did stuff like that all the time as a kid. The most memorable one was when I was hitting a tree with a garden hoe, and it got stuck. When I finally yanked it loose the head flew off and nailed me right below the eye. Come to think of it, I still do stuff like that. I saw an older guy playing tennis with this attractive young woman, and after their game he tried to flip over the. He landed right on his face though. He was completely fine, and I was so mad I didn't get a video of it.
6:05 , broke my arm like this when I was nine. I missed the jump and landed directly on my arm on the mat with my full body weight. Snapped my radius and ulna and broke my wrist. Was in a cast for 8 months and sometimes it still aches 7 years later

Bro really has a sense of medical humor
7:54 these were called “book bumps” back in the day because when you would go to the doctors they would just hit you with a book and pop it. Fun fact
I love how dr mike Cam see one video and go on an informative rant for 2x as long as the clip he saw, but he actually makes it interesting, even if it's a topic that wouldn't normally be interesting. These videos make my day and never fail to make me laugh
Hello how are you doing today
@@victormordi621 I'm doing ok how abt u?
@@victormordi621 hello
Hey, not sure if you’ve already done this or not but it would be great to see you react to the hunger games. It might be a little to gruesome for RUclips, but is something I would really like to see. Anyway I really enjoy your content and keep it up
Ooohhh yes that's a really good idea! I just watched Cinema Therapy (also a real nice channel) and they talked about how Katniss deals with all the trauma. I'd love to get a doctor Mike perspective on that.
Omg, get this thing to top comment he HAS to see it 🤣
Ahhh he should!
doctor mike, my brother, sister and me all like your channel! this youtube channel is basically the only thing i have in common with them! glad its you
2:29 *”OMG THE TREE IS FLOAT-* oh”
Miss your hair! 😊 great content this video 👍
Ah the hair is shaved now
Ikr it Caught me off guard lol
2:13 hey mike am I a psycho for laughing at that
Nah, I was laughing my ✨GLUTEUS MAXIMUS✨off at that one😂😂
yes
He's such a cool doctor, i'm legit always impressed how he can memorize that many medical facts 😃
He can't memorize jab data or JandJ jabs banned all over the world!
I agree
0:43 Dear Dr. Mike, As this may look really cool and hard to attempt/do, I have done this before and because of the fact that you momentum is all on whatever the object you are holding onto, which means whatever movement that vehicle does, that handle bar does, which would make your body do the cool movements that this guy did.
0:55 I FELT SO MUCH PAIN FOR THAT DUDE
True
Idk why I say true for some reason lol
Have you tried a specialist in the medical field opposed to you tube comments?
Probably not correct but when I swing my arms around a lot my hands start to hurt a bit so maybe it was something to do with the momentum of the zipline?
Mab when you hit the tree you put pressure on that nerve connecting your toes and spine, if so it might have saved you from paralysis, but idk 🤷♀️
6:08
I did one of those.
To share it with us.
damn that sucks
I love your reactions and responses to those videos, Doctor Mike. This took a lot of work to collect and put them together though. This is nice to watch.
I love your shirt and all about you.
I laughed so hard on 5:20 that I choked on my beer for around 5 minutes.
These TikToks are almost killing people
0:01 love the hairstyle!❤
It’s something!
It's nice having a doctor react to normal life as it gives us info about much things
Wait never noticed his small head until now that he has short hair lol
Edit: which isn’t a bad thing he is still hot and beautiful personality and smart lol he just always mentions a small head lmao
💀💀
Is it a small head or just huge muscles?
PEEWOOP
Oop
It's because he got more muscular from boxing training. Most hench men appear to have small heads.
Dr. Mike, you should react to crashes, accidents, and falls from telenovelas. They are INSANE!!
YESSSSS!!!!!
Have you seen a GMA telenovela's suicide by car crash
@@ashervaldez9975 No, I haven’t seen it.
3:05 it is shocking he didn’t tear any ligaments considering that I tore 3 of them on a trampoline and I wasn’t even doing anything that is dangerous
Wow, it's so good to see a new video from you DocMike! You never aged a bit!🤗🤗🤗
ya until he cut his hair!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Man that ganglion cyst vid was almost physically painful to watch. I had one that was on my wrist that had wrapped itself up on my nerves so any wrong movement or slight bump was excruciatingly painful. Fortunately I got it removed a few years back and God it was so nice not worrying about the pain.

That's not transformers , i think it's from Jackie Chan's chinese zodiac movie . It's Jackie Chan's stunt
I love that in 3:53 he talks about how the person who kicked the ball could have broke his two while a couple seconds ago he nailed a girls head

If you played plague Inc you know you've already lost
No
Can I just say I love bear and I think he should be added more and I love these videos and also Doctor Mike has made my day every video

Thank you Dr mike for everything you do and all the info I really learn a lot from you ❤️👍

That grandpa doing a flip off the swing was probably walking home, wanted to be a child again, and succeeded in the vibe check.
5:27 The guy "trying to stay out of the shot" was a reflection of the one taking the video we're watching, lol.
WOW I have never gagged or had an extreme visceral reaction at a video like the one I did when I saw the guy rolling over the ganglion cyst. I've came across the most horrific videos on the internet (straight up gore) and never felt how I felt seeing that cyst being rolled over. Holy cow.
Dear Mike, Thank you for educating us in such fun and understandable way. You never dissapoint, never fail to amaze. Your loyal supporter ❤️ me and my bf are watching your videos together on our sleepovers!

For example:
Pepper spraying another girl because they got in a fight, causing the whole building to be filled with pepper spray.
Girl slapping a guy during lunch because he broke up with her.
And lifting and dropping the snack machines because their snack got stuck.
1:55 that’s a worlds first done by Ryan Williams!!! That dude is insane!!!!!!!
6:52 some approximate math tells me that was a 124ish foot drop. He was likely doing nearly 60mph at the bottom of the fall. It's gonna be a no from me, dawg
I love doctor mike, he is so much help telling us what we need or what proper ways were meant to do it 🥰🥰
When I was in highschool I had a football hit me in the temple without bouncing first! So I can attest to how much pain that guy would be in! Plus I ended up with a concussion so that was fun!

Fun historical note: ganglion cysts are also still called Bible cysts because the most common way to fix them before surgery or hypodermic needles were common was to whack them with a large heavy book. The most common large heavy book in a given home at the time? That's right: the Bible.
Yep, I had one as a kid and the doctor told me that and brought out a book. He got a laugh out of my shock
love your thoughts of care for people and i hope you have a merry chrismas
1:35 this is a guy called Ryan Williams he’s really talented and good at BMX and scooter he also has a RUclips channel.
Every time I watch videos like this, I wonder how many of these people ended up in the ER with terrible injuries.

1:10 We were at an amusement park on the last day of school, and kept hearing these little explosions and we had no idea what they were. Turns out it was my friend throwing those things everywhere🤦♀️😂
7:20 huh, never considered this particular advantage to my lesbianism
Whenever I watch him I’m bored, and he makes me smile and be happy he just makes my day.
Speaking of spinal cord injuries, that's exactly what happened to one of Finland's best gymnasts. Failed landing from uneven parallel bars, paralysed.
Oh my god I love this haircut on Dr. Mike 😂🧡. Also these reactions are so funny! Such a good balance of information and humor 😅
