- replacing the dogging mechanism on a Sargent 20 series exit device.
After years of use, when you “dog down” the bar from the inside either using a key or hex wrench the latch will not retract fully which causes it to drag on the strike. These mechanisms are typically replaceable. This example is a Sargent 20 series
I'll be looking at the Sargent series 30 exit device at our Fire Department tonight. We typically don't DOG ours open, but I need to get a look at the cylinder and cylinder cam as I plan on replacing it. Thx for the Video Jason.
Helped a lot, thanks! Pretty much the only good video of this on the internet

Very informative, thanks Jason. Nice watch. Lol...
one of my Skagen’s just got back from battery replacement & repair (it wouldn’t set date correctly) :) I prefer the sleeker smaller face watches but don’t often wear them anyway :)
Great Vid. Thanks.
Question for you...
Is this a part you stock based on past experience or did you diagnose the problem and order it from a vendor?
Two wave washers?
Must’ve been stuck together during install.
where can i buy the replacement part?
Through a locksmith company
What was in the blue tube.
I can only guess Loctite thread locker?
Does anyone sell the springs for the latch mechanism?
Sargent has always been excellent for parts for their locks, if you are a locksmith check with a distributor after consulting the Sargent Parts manuals available on the website for the part number. If they sell Sargent they can order the parts. It may take a while but more common parts are sometimes available
@@selock We have the Panic bar locks on our shop doors, and the only thing that ever goes wrong is that tiny latch spring breaks, and they want to sell us a whole new panic bar.
Plastic or nylon parts?
Not fire rated
And cheap
